Commercial program cracks HD-DVD copy protection

Another blow to those concerned with content protection and piracy in the HD realm came last week when SlySoft began offering AnyDVD HD, a $79 program that cracks encrypted HD-DVD movie content bypassing HDCP anti-piracy efforts.

While reports began to emerge a few months ago of workarounds skirting HDCP protection, AnyDVD HD is believed to be among the first commercially available programs that allow users to decrypt HDCP-protected HD-DVD content and store that material to their hard drives.

In a related development, Web site zeropaid.com reported last week that the first Blu-ray movie has made its way onto BitTorrent, following the news that a user had circumvented Blu-ray's encryption scheme.
