China's New DTV Standard Explained
According to EE Times, China's terrestrial DTV standard will include two different modulation options: one a multicarrier method using time-domain synchronous OFDM and the other using a single carrier, similar to the U.S. ATSC method. It isn't clear if reception devices will include both options or whether the government will let the market decide which one to use, although teams working on the two modulation standards worked closely to minimize differences not related to the modulation method.
See the EE Times article China Writes its Own Digital TV Standard by Mike Clendenin for a much more detailed explanation of the two modulation methods and the competition between them.
