ATSC to recommend practices for DTV receiver makers
By TVTechnology published
The Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) has begun work to develop recommended practices to establish DTV receiver performance guidelines that consumer electronics manufacturers may voluntarily wish to adopt.
“Our decision to develop a Recommended Practice reflects our goal of providing the consumer electronics industry with important information while providing manufacturers with the necessary flexibility for product innovation,” said ATSC president Mark Richer. “We also want to be responsive to a recent Federal Communications Commission Notice of Inquiry which suggests that the industry develop voluntary DTV receiver performance guidelines.”
The ATSC Specialist Group on Receivers (T3/S10) has begun working on the recommended practices. Traditionally, the television industry has developed and used recommended practices to provide support and tutelage in the development of equipment, operations and activities.
