ABC offers interactivity on Daytime Emmy telecast

ABC and Walt Disney Internet Group’s Enhanced TV (ETV) continues to experiment with interactive television applications in the hopes of generating real traction among multimedia-savvy consumers. Last week the group hosted viewer polling during the network’s live telecast of the Daytime Emmy awards, which proved to be a success as thousands of people participated.

Viewers could participate in polls using one of three platforms: an Internet-connected personal computer, a digital set-top box with remote control, or a mobile phone.

Through an arrangement with Proteus, Inc.’s wireless interactive TV service, ABC provided its fans with cross-mobile carrier polling experience. Participating cell phone carriers included AT&T Wireless, Cingular Wireless, Sprint PCS and Nextel.

Wireless customers had voting opportunities for each of TV Guide’s 10 Most Memorable Daytime Moments, and received poll results on their mobile phones during the telecast.
