The NAB has updated its list of television stations on-the-air with a digital signal to include 15 more stations. The total is now 825.
Of the new stations, eight are commercial stations that were originally mandated to begin broadcasting on May 1, 2002. The remaining seven Public Broadcast Service (PBS) member stations are mandated to begin DTV on May 1.
The new commercial DTV stations are: KEZI-TV Eugene, Ore. (market rank #121), KDRV-TV Medford, Ore. (market rank #141), KDKF-TV Klamath Falls, Ore. (market rank #141), WWAY-TV Wilmington, N.C. (market rank #144), KGBT-TV Harlingen, Texas (market rank #30), WHNS-TV Asheville, N.C. (market rank #35), WSFX-TV Wilmington, N.C. (market rank #144*), and KATV-TV Little Rock, Ark. (market rank #56).
The PBS members include KUID-TV Moscow, Idaho (market rank #79), KMJ-TV Louisville, KY (market rank #50), KUAT-TV Tucson, Ariz. (market rank #74), WCNY-TV Syracuse, NY (market rank #80), WMAU-TV Bude, Miss. (market rank #89), WMAB-TV Mississippi State, Miss. (market rank #131), and WNIN-TV Evansville, IN (market rank #99).
The NAB said that digital signals are now being transmitted over-the-air in 187 designated market areas (DMAs) that include 97.44 percent of U.S. TV households. In addition, it said that 75.73 percent of the more than 106 million U.S. TV households are in markets with five or more broadcasters airing DTV and 44.61 percent are in markets with eight or more on-air digital signals.
