YouTube Goes Widescreen

It might be the biggest innovation on the video hub since dropping ads around the pictures. YouTube, perhaps preparing for a dominant new format, has widened its screen to 960 pixels, according to YouTube "blog entry," which is what the company calls its press releases

You might have already noticed the wider, 16:9 aspect ratio.

With the launch of its first live event last week, this format enhancement is another sigh YouTube wants to be the site for more higher-end, commercially produced product.

YouTube assures its faithful that plain old 4:3 videos will still upload and play just fine.
