Surf’s Up for Hawaii DTV Switch Tomorrow

The Aloha State is all set to end analog TV tomorrow (Jan. 15), including translator stations on the Big Island and Maui.

Fortunately for Hawaiians, the local press has been on the story for some time.

The Honolulu Star-Bulletin has a thorough story here, including a detailed chart of which communities might lose reception due to the reduced coverage area of the DTV sites, some of which are located at a lower elevation that their predecessors.

That location change was mandated my the government for reasons related to military equipment, and the early date is due to environmental concerns, namely the nesting habits of a threatened bird species at that location.
