The FCC has released four educational PSAs that delve deeper than earlier efforts into the DTV transition and the purchase and installation of converter boxes.
The face and words of FCC Chairman Kevin Martin kick off the first video, "What is DTV?" That episode is followed by "What You Need to Know," "Watching DTV With a Converter Box," and a summary episode.
Each episode comes in 30- and 60-second versions, in English and Spanish. They've already been distributed to some 1,368 full-power stations, the FCC said.
The clips give details about converter box installation, scanning for channels, and include a warning that viewers' antennas may need improvement. These issues were highlighted last week when Wilmington, N.C., turned off its analog channels five months ahead of the rest of the nation.
The second video mentions that a box with analog pass-through will be needed to receive low-power stations.
