Dolby sponsors surround-sound seminar in NYC

As the importance of good surround-sound mixing continues to grow in importance, especially in live sports event coverage, the Sports Video Group has announced the second in its SVG Summer Seminar series, titled “The sports surround-sound challenge — making it work in real-time.” Scheduled for July 27 in New York, the event will feature case studies by technology leaders from CBS, CNN, ESPN, FOX and NBC Olympics. Dolby Laboratories is sponsoring the event, aimed at addressing live-for-broadcast mixing of surround sound for sports. The seminar series is available to all SVG members, member companies and invited guests.

Presentation topics include a technical look at the issues facing producers, directors, mixers and technical advisers within the remote production environment; the challenge of transporting surround-sound audio signals and metadata from the field back to the network operations center; as well as the pressing issue of loudness and sports surround. A recent research report by SVG and Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) revealed that 65 percent of HDTV sports fans say sound is an important component of their sports viewing experience.
