APTN receives honor for live news product

APTN, the international television division of The Associated Press, has won the award for “Most innovative use of technology in international broadcasting” at the inaugural AIB International Broadcasting Awards for APTN Direct.

More than 100 television networks worldwide use the agency's live news product, APTN Direct, which was launched before the Iraq war in 2003 to provide live and rolling news coverage of the conflict. APTN has more than 80 bureaus in 67 countries linked by a network of global satellites.

APTN Direct combines satellite delivery of live video with an interactive Web page, which provides 24-hour coverage and allows APTN's content managers and broadcasters to communicate with each other in real-time via a message board.

APTN Direct was honored at the Association for International Broadcasting's regional forum in London. Judges came from the association’s executive committee, chief executive and an independent broadcast industry expert.
