TV Magic completes TV Guide Channel’s Hollywood studios upgrade

TV Magic has completed a critical design review, followed by system installation and documentation, for the TV Guide Channel. Working collaboratively with TV Guide Channel’s systems designer, TV Magic engineers upgraded the existing infrastructure, replacing rented gear used for studio production with new equipment without disrupting operations in the network’s studio and control suite.

TV Guide Channel combines entertainment programming with comprehensive local programming guidance for 27,000 different locations throughout the United States. Two years ago, the network completed the construction of new studios in Hollywood. To begin using the facilities as quickly as possible, TV Guide Channel launched production using rented studio gear and infrastructure. When the company decided it was time to install its own systems, TV Guide called in TV Magic’s Los Angeles-based staff to assist in the review of the existing systems and in the design and implementation of the new gear.

The transition to working with its own gear has afforded TV Guide Channel significant cost savings and also given the broadcaster the opportunity to bring an HD-ready studio infrastructure online in preparation for future growth. The project was first discussed by the two companies in the spring of this year and completed on Aug. 1.
