Time Warner Cable implements Volicon system for monitoring

Time Warner Cable has selected Volicon's Observer server platform to provide early and expedient detection of off-air channels. The Observer RPM will monitor more than 500 channels at Time Warner Network operations and headend facilities. An advanced desktop video monitoring solution, the Observer RPM systems will provide comprehensive video and audio quality assurance.

The Observer RPM automates the channel-scanning process, operating unattended as it scans as many as 500 video channels continuously — and multiple channels simultaneously — to verify the presence of video and audio and to detect problems such as frozen video, black video, loss of video signal and low-level audio. Each problem is recorded and reported to the operator via e-mail or cell phone alarm for review and analysis.

Time Warner Cable will be using two Observer systems for a total of eight parallel scanners, which are equivalent to eight human operators constantly scanning channels. One of the RPM scanners will be reserved for manual scans, allowing the operator to tune to the suspicious channel and confirm the error report. The Observer uses Volicon's video processing technology to give users simultaneous access to multiple channels of live and archived content from their desktops using a Microsoft Internet Explorer-compatible interface.

Volicon will exhibit the Observer system at IBC2006, in stand 9.247.
