SeaChange offers live on-demand television

SeaChange International has announced that its live video-on-demand (VOD) product, the SeaChange Recording System, is now available to cable operators. The system allows cable operators to quickly make news, sports and live events part of the VOD experience.

An extension of the SeaChange VOD System, the Recording System automatically captures selected broadcast programs and prepares them for on-demand viewing with fast-forward, pause and rewind functionality, giving the viewer control of a broader variety of television programming.

Comcast has deployed the system in the Philadelphia area. Hundreds of hours of on-demand content, including local sports and news captured by the Recording System, are available to Comcast Digital Cable customers.

With the SeaChange Recording System, data entry is via a “point-and-click” graphical user interface. The software automates the entire process, from capturing video content from broadcast sources, to propagating files to servers based on anticipated subscriber demand and importing television schedule information.

SeaChange VOD Systems currently provides more than 363,000 on-demand streams in more than 75 deployments including Adelphia, AOL Time Warner, Cablevision, Comcast, Insight, Mediacom and Rogers.
