Rehr Defends Broadcast Public Service
Commissioner Copps did a disservice to local broadcasters, David Rehr says.
The president/CEO of the NAB wrote in a letter to the New York Times responding to an op-ed piece by Copps about radio and TV public service and election coverage.
“Broadcasters go to enormous lengths to fulfill our role as a lifeline during times of crisis,” Rehr wrote in reply. He listed examples such as airing of Amber alerts; dissemination of information in times of catastrophe; PSAs and fund-raising drives; and airing of news, public affairs, candidate forums and debates.
“We will proudly match our public service commitment against that of any business in America,” he wrote.
