NBA Western Conference finals may be served up in 3-D HD

“The Arizona Republic” reported May 4 that 3-D HD technology might be used for the presentation of a Western Conference finals game if the NBA Phoenix Suns advance to the finals.

Quoting Suns president Rick Wells, the paper reported that the team was discussing with the league the possibility of exhibiting a game at the U.S. Airways Center in 3-D.

The league first presented closed-circuit HD 3-D coverage in Las Vegas during this season’s NBA All-Star Game. It marked the first time a sporting event had been presented live in HD 3-D. For that production, the PACE Fusion 3D HD camera system was used.

Clips from that production were shown during the Sony press event on the eve of NAB2007 using a Sony SXRD projector.
