Murata announced a new, compact DTV tuner for digital cable set-top boxes. The tuner can also received terrestrial 8-VSB DTV transmissions. While performance specifications were not included in the Murata description of the CAPTU3000 series tuner, the tuner features a double conversion design, which should avoid some of interference problems that have plagued some single conversion tuners and "a low-distortion, low-noise amplifier circuit that takes advantage of Murata's microwave technologies..."
The tuner module includes a splitter for signal distribution to cable modem tuners and sub-video tuners and a diplexer for adding an upload signal for bi-directional data communications. Production is scheduled to start in October 2003.
