FCC Cites Retailers for Failing to Post Analog Warnings

The FCC is already cracking down on retailers that haven't posted warnings on analog TVs. CompUSA, Radio Shack, Best Buy, Circuit City, Target, Amazon, Sears, J&R Electronics and Fry's are among the electronics outlets that have so far received citations from the FCC for not displaying required information on analog sets.

The FCC in April ordered TV retailers to warn consumers that analog TVs may go dark Feb. 17, 2009. Brick and mortar and online dealers are supposed to display the following information with analog-only TV sets:

"This television receiver has only an analog broadcast tuner and will require a converter box after Feb. 17, 2009, to receive over-the-air broadcasts with an antenna because of the nation's transition to digital broadcasting. Analog-only TVs should continue to work as before with cable and satellite TV services, gaming consoles, VCRs, DVD players, and similar products. For more information, call the FCC at 1-888-225-5322 (TTY: 1-888-835-5322) or visit the commission's digital television Web site at: www.dtv.gov."
