ESPN, Disney launch X Games Mobile in Japan

ESPN and The Walt Disney Internet Group (WDIG) will launch X Games Mobile, a new content-based service for Japanese wireless consumers targeted at that country’s growing base of action sports fans.

KDDI and Vodafone, two of Japan’s major wireless carriers, began making X Games Mobile available to their customers last week.

X Games Mobile will offer X Games-branded content including streaming audio and video, news and information, screensavers, ring tones, wallpaper, photos and logos.

X Games Mobile is ESPN’s first major content-based wireless initiative outside of the United States and the latest in ESPN’s developing wireless business. Earlier this month, ESPN announced the creation of ESPN Mobile, the first national U.S. wireless phone service specifically targeted to sports fans.
