Spend a little time in the Media & Entertainment Industry—especially on the technology side of the business—and it will seem like there’s a new buzzword or phrase everyday that those “in the know” must be familiar with and understand.
But step back for a second and keep the big picture in mind. What really is important is that technology assists organizations in being as efficient as possible, helps them seamlessly bring together the best hardware and software into cohesive, integrated workflows and enables them to grow easily as future needs are met. Or, as the buzzwords might put it: maximize efficiency, ensure interoperability and deliver scalability.
In the months leading up to IBC 2026, which was held Sept. 11-14 at the RAI Amsterdam Convention Center, those principles and design objectives—as they always do—guided Ross Video’s engineers and product designers in developing the company’s IBC product debut: The new Ultrix FR30, a 576-by-576 UHD I/O hyperconverged media processing and routing platform.
The new Ultrix FR30 reflects Ross Video’s understanding of where the industry is headed based on discussions with customers about what production capabilities they require today and how they see their needs evolving over time.
Of course, M&E organizations increasingly have adopted public and private cloud solutions as well as leveraged the AI tools available there. However, many are finding it too costly to rely exclusively on the cloud. Some that have invested heavily in OpEx-heavy cloud-based solutions are now reevaluating that decision as egress charges and monthly subscription fees mount. Among these organizations, many are returning to on-premises infrastructure technology—in part as a hybrid solution or in total—to meet production requirements with a solution based upon a predictable, well-understood CapEx spending cycle.
IBC Product Evolution
At the recently concluded IBC 2026, Ross Video’s new 576-by-576 I/O UHD Ultrix FR30 hyperconverged platform turned heads, especially among broadcasters, production companies, integrators and OB companies. Offering the ability to scale as media organizations’ needs grow over time, the new single chassis Ultrix production and routing platform is DMX/MXL ready and supports interchangeable I/O operational workflows.
As with previous Ultrix hyperconverged platforms, the new version with a higher I/O count not only satisfies production and routing requirements on-premises as the centerpiece of a studio or OB vehicle’s tech infrastructure, it also can support hybrid workflows that leverage the cloud as well as brick-and-mortar and mobile facilities.
At IBC 2026, Ross Video once again demonstrated its commitment to delivering the technology broadcasters, production companies and others seek. While the industry too often gets caught up in the latest buzzwords or what many think will be the next big tech trend, Ross Video has maintained its commitment to innovating in the design and functionality of its video production technology based on what its customers say they need.
