Multi-core Processor Facilitates HDTV Image Processing by Software

Fujitsu Labs recently announced the development of a multi-core single-chip image processor that will perform image processing that has, in the past, required custom large-scale integration, and that has the capability to easily accommodate upgrades and changes.
The chip has four FR-V processor cores that operate at 533 MHz, and has the capability to perform processing tasks at 51.2 giga operations per second, and transfer data at a speed of one gigabyte per second. This is four times the processing and data transfer speeds of a single FR-V processor. It processes using only software. It is intended for a wide variety of high-performance consumer applications, including those that involve HDTV.
