Scientific-Atlanta Launches New PowerVu Receiver

Scientific-Atlanta has created the PowerVu Program Receiver to solve a problem cable programmers face in the expensive process of providing a new digital receiver to thousands of headends to replace the current analog signal. The PowerVu enables programmers to roll out digital services, increase the number of channels distributed over current transponder bandwidth or reduce bandwidth requirements and their associated costs.

The PowerVu model D9850 is the first in a series of application-specific receivers with an integrated design based on silicon that uses fewer components, requires a smaller power supply and is enclosed in a 1 RU chassis.

Scientific-Atlanta also debuting its SciCare Broadband Services to help programmers manage the distribution and authorization of receivers during the new equipment rollout. SciCare can manage the shipment of receivers to headends, authorization of receivers and establish a database to track activities.
