Video cell phones play into BBC mix of blast coverage

Among the first pictures to emerge from the London subway tunnel following last week’s explosion weren’t taken with expensive ENG cameras, but camera-equipped cell phones in the hands of passengers as they evacuated the subterranean blast site.

Shortly after the strike, the BBC posted on its Web site at least three images taken by cell phones, showing the smoke-filled tube environment and an orderly procession of passengers from the site.

The images appeared on a BBC Web page called “London explosions: Your photos” among other digital images taken above ground.
