UK Article Says DTV too Complex for Viewers

Is digital television too complex for many viewers? According to an article by Tom Leonard on www.telegraph.co.uk, it is. The article quotes data from a study by consulting firm Generics and design experts at Cambridge University. The study found that unless people were used to using a PC, they might find digital television intimidating. The article quotes a spokesman for Generics: "Some people simply cannot understand how to work the equipment and they are scared they will make mistakes." The article also said Culture Secretary Tessa Jowell revealed there was research indicating "70 percent of the public would resent being required to switch to digital."

This research is part of the U.K. Digital Television Action plan. A copy of the Digital TV Action Plan and more information on the DTV conversion in Great Britain is available from the Digital Television Web Site.
