L.A. Times Questions Value of Over-The-Air TV

A Los Angeles Times article dated June 3 and titled "Analysis--Is free TV worth saving in a 500-channel world?" by Sadie Hofmesiter looked at whether free over-the-air broadcast TV should be allowed to use the TV spectrum for commercial purposes. The article discusses the politics of free TV and the changes that have occurred in broadcasters' public service responsibilities and in the programming they offer. Thomas Hazlett, the former chief economist for the FCC quoted in last week's report on the NPR story on the future of free TV, was also quoted in this article, as was current FCC Commissioner Michel J. Copps. The article is interesting reading. I found it on the web at SunSpot.net.
