HDTV market to exceed 50 million units by 2008, Global Industry Analysts says

A new analysis of the HDTV market released last week by Global Industry Analysts forecasts that the HDTV market will exceed 50 million HD sets and monitors worldwide by 2008.

The finding is part of the report "HDTV: A Global Strategic Business Report." The report also offers perspective on the penetration of HDTV in various regions of the world. Among the highlights:

  • Europe accounts for 45 percent of the global HDTV market;
  • North America is expected to be the fastest growing HDTV market with a compound annual growth rate of more than 50 percent;
  • The market for HDTV in Asia-Pacific, Latin America and rest of world accounts for 5 to 6 percent of the global market;
  • Together, Europe and the North American market account for more than 75 percent of global HD-capable set sales.
