Fisher Communications selects BitCentral for play-to-air operations

Independent station group Fisher Communications, based in Seattle, WA, is upgrading the broadcast operations at four of its west coast stations to a Precis play-to-air system from BitCentral. The stations’ news producers wanted more control over their stories and the ability to create higher quality segments while reducing story time-to-air time.

Fisher’s stations in Portland (KATU-TV); Eugene (KVAL-TV); Coos Bay (KCBY); and Roseburg (KPIC), OR; have all made the transition to the Precis system. The system gives broadcasters the ability to immediately upgrade to a file-based news production workflow that extends from ingest to air.

Precis is an integrated system capable of ingesting multiple video sources, such as microwave feeds or satellite sources, into a station’s digital architecture, and also allows the station to gather, edit, and file stories remotely. Precis also adds end-to-end, redundant digital news management solutions with non-proprietary storage and archiving capabilities.

With the Precis system, KATU will receive 14 dual-purpose ingest/edit workstations, and 12 additional dedicated video ingest channels, for a total of up to 26 simultaneous feeds.

Digital archiving is integrated into all BitCentral installations. BitCentral will install more than 2500 hours of real-time open-architecture video storage.
