FCC Releases 2005 Regulatory Fee Schedule

The FCC has set regulatory fees for 2005. Commercial users of FCC services are required to pay fees for FCC services. For VHF commercial TV stations in markets 1 through 10, the 2005 fee amount is $61,975. UHF commercial TV stations in the same markets get a discounted rate of $20,025.

At the present time, these fees are based on the station's analog channel. I suspect fee payments after analog TV ends will be based on the station's major channel number rather than the channel they are actually using for broadcasting, although the FCC could use the DTV transition to eliminate the distinction based on channel number.

Broadcast Auxiliary licenses are subject to a separate fee of $10 per license. The 2005 regulatory fee for low power TV stations, TV and FM translator stations and TV and FM booster stations was set at $395.

For information on fees for broadcasters in other markets and fees for other services, see FCC Order FCC-05-137.
