It probably did not come as a total shock to observers, but Rogers Cable does not believe any revisions to Canada's Broadcasting Act should authorize HD carriage fees for broadcasters. The cable operator has asked the Canadian Radio-TV & Telecom Commission to reject any fee-for-carriage model.
Rogers believes the national regulator should "maintain the requirement for over-the-air broadcasters to build digital transmission facilities and establish a fixed date for analog shut off."
Meanwhile, the CBC's enormously popular "Hockey Night in Canada" has just unveiled its 81-game schedule for the new season, which will include 30 games to be aired in HD, according to Digital Home Canada. The season begins Oct. 5 with the Toronto Maple Leafs facing off against Ottawa in the hockey-crazed nation's capital.
