Discussions between Microsoft and NBC about the sale of the software company’s position in MSNBC to the television network have reached an advanced stage, according to a report in The New York Post.
If the deal is consummated, NBC would take over the news company while Microsoft would retain the right to use some news reports from the site, the paper reported.
The joint cable news venture began in 1996. Initially, Microsoft invested $250 million in the channel.
