Six additional television network groups have signed up for network transport aboard the Total Digital Solution, a service that combines Comcast Media Center's content management capabilities with SES Americom's AMC-4 satellite distribution network.

Total Digital Solution provides the networks with additional penetration in cable systems deploying digital simulcast or all digital service. CMC's all-digital platform features secured authorization, optimized DPI triggers and high-quality video and audio.

The newly added channels include television networks operated by A&E Television Networks (A&E Network), The History Channel, Hallmark (Hallmark Channel), Jewelry Television, ION Media Networks (Pax TV), Oxygen Media (Oxygen), and WGN (Superstation WGN).

The 10 new feeds bring a total of 30-plus east and west coast feeds to the platform. Other participating channels include C-SPAN; Lifetime Network's Lifetime Television and LMN; Scripps Networks' HGTV, Food Network and GAC; and Trinity Broadcasting Networks.

"The expansion of channels available via the Total Digital Solution provides numerous benefits to both the participating networks and their cable system affiliates," said Gary Traver, COO of Comcast Media Center. "For the industry's programming networks, Total Digital represents a cost-effective and complementary distribution method for reaching their affiliates. For cable operators, our Total Digital Solution offers a highly efficient means for launching all-digital service in their markets by shifting much of the investment, maintenance and quality assurance for digital compression to a company that's been providing this service to the industry for over 12 years."

When fully deployed, the basic and expanded basic channels aboard the Total Digital Solution will combine with more than 150 digital video and audio services offered via the CMC's Headend In The Sky digital overlay platform to provide more than 200 video and audio services. The combined platforms currently stand at more than 180 digital and audio feeds.
