In late 2002, SeaChange International helped Comcast, the nation’s leading cable provider, launch the revolutionary “On Demand” service in its Philadelphia cable television market. Offering more than 1800 programming options, including movies, subscription video-on-demand and complementary programming from dozens of national television networks and local broadcasters, the installation became the model for the on-demand service that Comcast is now rolling out to millions of customers across the country.
SeaChange demonstrated the Comcast On Demand service at the recent National Cable & Telecommunications Association’s National Show in New Orleans. Since its introduction, SeaChange has provided Comcast with the technology platform for its Atlantic and Eastern Divisions. Additionally, SeaChange is supporting launched services in Los Angeles; Portland, OR; Seattle; and Stockton, CA,; and upcoming deployments in Denver, Sacramento and San Francisco.
“Comcast has enjoyed great success with its on-demand deployments, and we’re very proud to work with them,” said Bill Styslinger, president and CEO of SeaChange. “The groundwork has been laid for tremendous growth in on-demand television. We look forward to helping Comcast expand its ON DEMAND service in these markets and other parts of the country.”
SeaChange’s VOD System — a comprehensive technology platform incorporating its patented MediaCluster servers, end-to-end automation software and real-time broadcast recording gear — enables broadband operators to easily enhance on-demand programming services.
SeaChange drives the on-demand business with highly automated and fault-resilient digital video systems. Today, SeaChange VOD systems provide approximately 1,000,000 on-demand streams in more than 100 deployments, including 17 of the top 25 television markets, for North America’s largest cable operators including Adelphia, Cablevision, Comcast, Cox Communications, Insight, Mediacom, RCN, Rogers and Time Warner Cable.
