DENVER—Wowza has announced the general availability of Wowza Video Intelligence Framework, a new solution that enables media and sports organizations to apply AI directly inside live streaming workflows, generating real-time metadata, clips, alerts, and machine-readable event signals while a stream is still live.

Built to run alongside Wowza Streaming Engine, the framework connects live video to AI inference and converts what happens inside a stream into outputs downstream systems can immediately use. A single moment in a stream can simultaneously generate metadata for ad targeting, trigger a clip, fire a webhook, and update a downstream system without a separate pipeline, manual handoff, or delay, the company reported.

Rapid delivery of clips and highlights could boost revenue, the company said. Research from StreamLayer's 2026 live sports monetization analysis found that event-triggered, contextually aware ads deliver 40% higher CPMs than standard ad breaks but only if broadcasters have real-time signal about what is happening in the content. When Messi scored his first MLS goal, over 4 million people watched the clip in the hour after it happened. A clip that surfaces the next morning is a different asset entirely.

"Live video is the most valuable, most perishable asset in media and sports, and most of it still goes unused," said Krish Kumar, CEO of Wowza. "The moment passes before anyone can act on it. Video Intelligence Framework puts AI inside the live workflow, where the value actually is, so teams can detect what's happening and do something about it while it still matters."

Wowza Video Intelligence Framework extracts frames from live streams, routes them to AI models for inference, and converts the results into structured outputs that downstream systems can immediately consume - including webhooks, JSON, ID3 tags, stream overlays, timestamped clips, and event logs.

Because the framework operates within the live video pipeline itself, the same detected moment can support multiple outcomes simultaneously, generating ad targeting metadata, triggering an editorial clip workflow, surfacing a production alert, and updating a scouting platform in a single pass.

The framework supports deployment on-premises, at the edge, in the cloud, and in hybrid environments, allowing organizations to run inference close to the source rather than routing all workloads through the cloud. Teams can bring their own AI models and tailor detection logic to their specific use cases, evolving their workflows over time without rebuilding the streaming infrastructure underneath.

In launching the solution the company laid out a number of use cases for media and sports:

Contextual Advertising and Monetization. Generate real-time content signals, including sponsor-relevant context, natural break points, scene-level metadata, and route them into ad decisioning and dynamic insertion workflows while inventory is still live. The result is more targetable, higher-value ad placements without added latency or manual effort.

Live Content Tagging, Metadata, and Clip Generation. Identify meaningful moments inside live streams and generate timestamped clips that feed automatically into editorial tools, clip libraries, and distribution pipelines. Content teams produce more usable inventory from the same event, without the manual review process that erodes timeliness and scale.

Sports Highlights, Scouting, and Performance Analysis. In sports, the framework helps organizations surface the exact clip a scout or analyst needs before the next game, generate player- and event-specific highlights for distribution, and convert live feeds into structured data that flows into coaching, analytics, and performance systems.

Camera Health and Operational Monitoring. Detect degraded image quality, obstructed lenses, and misaligned feeds in real time, routing alerts into monitoring dashboards and operations workflows before a broadcast is disrupted or a subscriber notices.

Built to Fit Existing Infrastructure. Wowza Video Intelligence Framework is designed to work with existing Wowza Streaming Engine deployments, allowing organizations to begin applying AI to live workflows without a large-scale infrastructure rebuild. As models, use cases, and business needs evolve, organizations can adapt the intelligence layer without reworking the streaming foundation underneath.

Wowza Video Intelligence Framework is generally available beginning April 19, 2026. Wowza will be showcasing the framework at NAB Show 2026 and in dedicated media and customer briefings focused on live video, sports, and streaming innovation.

For more information, visit wowza.com/video-intelligence-framework

Remote content delivery specialist Swift is partnering with video streaming infrastructure provider Wowza to bring high-quality streaming to bandwidth-constrained, infrastructure-limited locales around the globe.

From Australian mining camps and offshore oil rigs to care homes for the elderly and defense installations, Swift is now able to provide content delivery to places previously unreachable. Using the Wowza Streaming Engine at the heart of its platform, Swift has developed a highly resilient, edge-powered architecture that enables live and on-demand video streaming, even in places with less than 1 Mbps of bandwidth and no on-site IT support.

“If a site has power, we can get them content,” said Swift Networks chief operating officer Aidan Sommerville.

Operating in harsh, remote and sensitive environments, Swift needed a platform that could deliver critical video services with minimal latency, zero downtime and no reliance on the public internet. Traditional streaming platforms simply couldn’t handle the job.

Swift deployed more than 150 localized Wowza Streaming Engine instances directly on-site, creating a distributed, edge-based CDN across Australia and beyond. This enables predictive content pre-caching, adaptive bitrate delivery and hybrid streaming incorporating DVB-T networks, allowing content to reach thousands of concurrent users, even during peak loads.

The solution also leverages custom set-top boxes built for ease of use, one-touch broadcasting for non-technical staff to live stream messages and a fully managed ISO 27001-certified infrastructure.

The Swift platform offers more than entertainment. In partnership with Beyond Blue, it delivers integrated mental health resources directly to remote users, supporting well-being in high-stress environments. In elder care, the system offers chapel services, live family broadcasts and simplified interfaces to improve connection and reduce agitation.

Working with Chevron, Shell and other major operators, Swift adapted its platform for offshore use, optimizing for satellite connectivity and extreme redundancy. Pre-deployment labs simulate vessel conditions, ensuring reliable performance at sea.

More information is available on the Swift and Wowza websites.

DENVER—Wowza has announced that Wowza Streaming Engine, its highly flexible, on-prem video streaming solution, is now compatible with Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) VT1 instances from Amazon Web Services (AWS) and is available in AWS Marketplace.

The move will strengthen Wowza’s ongoing efforts to promote faster and greener streams.

Wowza announced their collaboration with AMD in 2023 involving Wowza Streaming Engine and AMD’s Xilinx Alveo U30 accelerator card, resulting in highly efficient transcoding for low-latency and large-scale video streams.

That same card now powers Amazon EC2 VT1 instances, which are designed to accelerate real time video transcoding and deliver low-cost transcoding for live video streams. Now Wowza Streaming Engine is compatible with these Amazon EC2 VT1 instances.

“Collaboration powers innovation,” says Dave Stubenvoll, CEO of Wowza. “What we’re seeing here is next level streaming technology resulting from the combined efforts of major industry players, namely AWS, AMD, and Wowza.”

In announcing the compatibility, Wowza noted that efficiency is paramount for many organizations looking to process large volumes of streams and that reduced server load can lead to lower carbon footprints and lower costs for companies that need scalability on a budget. It can also increase stream reliability as servers are at a lower risk of being overloaded. Finally, even organizations that already operate at high demand need to consider how that demand might continue to grow.

By working with AMD and AWS, Wowza said that it is addressing those needs. Through high-density transcoding, customers will enjoy scalable low-latency streams without sacrificing quality. They can also save costs not only through reduced server demands, but also thanks to the price performance offered by Amazon EC2 VT1 instances, Wowza reported.

“Organizations with high processing demands are feeling the pressure relative to sustainability – not only when it comes to the environment, but also when it comes to the sustainability of their infrastructure as their transcoding needs increase over time,” says Ashique Anwar, chief product officer at Wowza. “With Wowza Streaming Engine and the Alveo U30 on Amazon EC2 VT1, we can take a lot of that pressure off via better performance, healthier CPU usage, and considerable cost savings.”

More information about the Wowza Streaming Engine on Amazon EC2 VT1 instances is available at the AWS Marketplace.

NANJING, China, and DENVER—Magewell has partnered with Wowza to integrate Magewell's Ultra Encode AIO live media encoders with the Wowza's platform to enable seamless and easy-to-deploy streaming workflows from encoding to delivery via Wowza's global content delivery network (CDN), Magewell said.

Supporting multiple encoding formats and delivery protocols, Ultra Encode AIO offers a robust, affordable encoding solution for applications ranging from live streaming and remote contribution to IP-based production. The PoE device encodes video up to 1080p at 60fps or 4K at 30fps. It also can encode one live input source or mix its HDMI and SDI inputs into a combined output, the company said.

Wowza Video is a comprehensive, integrated video platform designed for business-critical applications. A dependable, scalable and simple-to-use streaming solution, it provides the core capabilities of broadcast media servers without the cost and engineering requirements of typical broadcast deployments, it said.

The integration adds Wowza Video to Ultra Encode AIO's output presets, enabling users to bring content seamlessly from the encoder into the Wowza ecosystem without manual configuration, the company said.

Wowza Video subscribers can specify their Wowza access token within Ultra Encode AIO for automatic authentication and then stream to the platform using the RTMP or SRT protocol.

While the integration speeds up the workflow, it also enables users to customize settings to their unique needs and environment. Ultra Encode AIO, streaming can be triggered manually or scheduled, enabling automated, hands-off deployments, it said.

Wowza Video integration is a standard feature of new Ultra Encode AIO units and is available to existing Ultra Encode AIO customers as part of a free firmware upgrade.

More information is available on the Magewell and Wowza websites.

AMSTERDAM—IBC 2016 is bringing companies together, or at least NewTek and Wowza Media Systems, as the two have announced a collaboration on the MDS media encoding and live streaming video delivery platform. A fully integrated hardware and software system, the MDS merges NewTek’s live production technology with Wowza’s streaming software in a 1RU footprint.

Equipped for existing and emerging SDI, IP and hybrid workflows, the MDS delivers processing of up to four channels of video. Streaming sources are acquired through direct, physical input using 3G/HD/SD-SDI hardware connections, over IP via NewTek’s Network Device Interface technology and other sources, including TCP/IP, webcams and USB capture devices. With local input sources also translated to NDI within the system, streaming sources can be delivered and deployed through multiple MDX to maximize resources, performance and delivery potential.

The MDS can deliver production, presentations or live events on mobile devices, desktop or OTT devices by supporting delivery to Wowza Cloud, Wowza CDN and Wowza Player, or alternative workflows. Support for all common CDNs is provided with out-of-the-box support for Facebook, Microsoft, Azure, Wowza, YouTube, and custom RTMP.

Additional features for the MDS include the ability to connect two MDS units together through a local area network or remotely to deliver content between locations. MDS also offers customizable web pages for each of the four available streaming channels, with HTML and CSS editing support.

NewTek and Wowza will offer the MDS starting the fourth quarter of 2016 at a retail price of $11,995.
