NEVADA CITY, Calif.—Telestream has announced the latest version of its live video streaming and production hardware, Wirecast Gear 3 with support for up to 4K60 streaming workflows.

Designed for video streaming specialists requiring a turnkey solution to produce and stream live video content, Wirecast Gear 3 is well-suited for a number of industries and uses, including those in corporate and marketing environments, sports, news, education, training and houses of worship.

Supporting up to 1080p HD or 4K resolutions, Wirecast Gear comes pre-installed with Telestream’s Wirecast Pro software and includes NDI input/output, PTZ camera control, pro audio effects, ISO recording and Telestream Switch Player software for quality control and inspection, the company said.

Wirecast Gear 3 hardware was designed to handle the rigors of live streaming production and is available in four models that vary by max resolution and input configuration. They include Wirecast Gear 3 HD HDMI; Wirecast Gear 3 HD SDI; Wirecast Gear 3 4K HDMI; and Wirecast Gear 3 4K SDI.

Each model runs cooler, quieter and 66% more efficiently than the previous generation of Wirecast Gear hardware, the company said.

NEW YORK—Telestream’s offerings at the upcoming NAB Show New York will give attendees a look at what the company can provide from production to distribution. A particular focus for Telestream’s latest products will be the adoption of 4K technology.

To help with production needs, Telestream will have its Prism monitoring and analysis platform that is engineered for IP, SDI and hybrid workflows involving HD, 4K, HDR and WCG. The Prism unit that will be shown comes with new features like false color, HDR measurement tools and support for 25G networks.

The Vantage Media Processing Platform is meant to help with postproduction, featuring automated ingest, media processing and postproduction workflow automation. One of the components of the Vantage platform is the Vantage Media Manager, which provides a user interface for Mac and Windows-based creative editorial to browse, preview, tag and submit jobs for processing. The Vantage platform also provides GPU-accelerated multiscreen transcoding and automated content assembly while handling 4K+, HDR and Dolby Vision formats. Additional features include delivering final masters in IMF and being able to automatically process in the cloud via Vantage Cloud Port.

Telestream has a number of video quality assurance products that it will showcase, including Vidchecker and Aurora for file-based QC and correction. In addition, Telestream iQ and Sentry are designed to ensure viewers’ video experience with hardware or virtualized probes.

On the distribution side, Telestream has products to assist with live streaming, like the OptiQ Monitor, a subscription, pay-as-you-go cloud-native system that provides real-time deployment of live ABR monitoring for real-time video QoE analysis and a comprehensive view of CDN delivery network QoS performance. The OptiQ Channel system, meanwhile, enables the creation of new OTT channels from cloud-deployed infrastructure.

Telestream’s Wirecast Gear will also show its latest features, which include more CPU cores, higher clock speeds, faster RAM and the latest NVMe storage, will be shown at Broadfield’s booth (N121).

AMSTERDAM—IBC attendees will have their first chance to get a peek at the latest version of Telestream’s Wirecast Gear live video streaming production hardware during this year’s conference, which takes place Sept. 13-17 in Amsterdam.

Telestream said in its announcement that the new Wirecast Gear hardware boasts a significant performance increase over previous generations hardware, which it says will enable live professional broadcasts to be established in minutes. Among the features that will allow it to do this are more CPU cores, higher clock speeds, faster RAM and the latest NVMe storage.

Building off of Wirecast’s 300 series server-grade processing, the new 400 series adds a professional NVIDIA Quadro GPU that can produce up to four simultaneous 1080p 60fps encodes and an SDI program output or multiview without using additional CPU bandwidth. There is also the ability to create more ISO and archival grade encodes simultaneously for future repurposing of content.

Wirecast Gear can support up to five simultaneous cameras via baseband SDI or four cameras via HDMI. It has six channels of audio and professional XLR/TLS balanced audio inputs.

Additional features of Wirecast Gear include the Telestream Wirecast Pro software; NewBlue Tilter Live software; Telestream Switch Player software; Dual 1 Gbps NIC cards; 60 FPS input and encode capabilities; a rack mountable chassis with certified thermal cooling system; IPMI interface; and Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC. Wirecast users also have access to the new stock media library and can invite up to seven remote guests into the streaming program with the Wirecast Rendezvous feature.

Telestream will display the new Wirecast Gear at its stands, 7.C14 and 7.C16, during IBC 2019.

NEVADA CITY, CALIF.—Telestream’s Wirecast Gear live streaming platform is going abroad as the company has announced the purchase of eight systems by Paris-based broadcasters Canal+. The systems began to be deployed in May.

Canal+ was able to use the Wirecast Gear system to stream live from the 2017 Cannes Film Festival.

Wirecast Gear is a portable computer workstation configured for live event production and streaming. It is pre-installed with Wirecast Pro live streaming production software; comes with four video input ports with HDMI or SDI options; is built on a Windows 10 Pro 64-bit platform with i7 Intel processors, 16GB of memory and a 250GB system drive; it also includes multiple network connectors, USB-C ports and digital display outputs.

Features of the Wirecast Gear system have the ability to stream; multi-camera live switching; mix live camera sources; instant replay; playlists; built-in titles; chroma key support; virtual sets; and live scoreboards.

Canal+ has used its Wirecast Gear systems to stream live footage from events like the 2017 Cannes Film Festival, America’s Cup Sailing Race series, and the Champions League Final. The events were streamed to Dailymotion and Facebook.

NEVADA CITY, CALIF.—Des Moines, Iowa’s Meredith Corporation broadcast television group has joined Facebook—Facebook Live that is—with the help of the Wirecast Gear system from Telestream. Using the Wirecast technology, Meredith stations are now able to stream breaking news and news-related content directly to Facebook Live.

Recognizing the trend of people getting their news from social media more frequently, Meredith had all of its stations begin utilizing Facebook Live. To assist with this, Meredith brought in the Wirecast Gear streaming production system in all of their markets nationwide.

Wirecast Gear provides a user-friendly interface; image branding, graphics and keying for placement of logo bugs; multi-camera switching, audio mixing, roll-ins, green screen keying and other production tools; and connections to go live to social media sites. It features the Wirecast streaming software fully loaded and configured on a turnkey computer hardware. In addition, it can accept video feed from HD-SDI cameras, iOS and webcam devices, and remote video feed.

Users can select Facebook as the desired output destination from a dropdown menu, as well as the ability to select the precise destination page or site to stream to, chose a stream type or encode setting and save a recording of their live broadcast for future reuse or archive.

Meredith has deployed Wirecast Gear to all of its 15 DTV station across the U.S.

Wirecast Gear comes with four professional video input ports with options for either HDMI or SDI in a compact hardware system. It features solid state drives to make the system portable. The system is built on a Windows 10 Pro 64 bit platform with i7 Intel processors, 16GB memory and a 250GB system drive. Multiple network connectors, USB-C port, and digital display outputs are also included.

The unit also comes pre-installed with Wirecast Pro live production streaming software with production features that include multi-camera live switching; the ability to mix live camera sources as well as video, images, and computer desktops; instant replay; playlists; built-in titles; CHROMA key support; virtual sets; and live scoreboards. The built-in encoding engine enables users to stream H.264 video and AAC audio over RTMP, RTP and Windows Media protocols. Users can stream directly to 30 built-in destinations, including Facebook Live, YouTube Live, Microsoft Azure, Akamai, DaCast and Wowza, as well as record a version for later use. Switch Plus and NewBlue Titler Live are also installed.

The Wirecast Gear system is available in three versions: Wirecast Gear 110, Wirecast Gear 210, and Wirecast Gear 220. All versions will be available in early September at prices of $4,995 for the 110, $5,995 for the 210, and $7,995 for the 220.

Telestream will demonstrate the Wirecast Gear at the upcoming IBC 2016 show in Amsterdam.
