Sachs, along with PBS Senior Director of Media Operations Steve Scheel, will present a session titled “Closed Captioning Quality Lifecycle,” which he says will show how to effectively maintain broadcast compliance with FCC requirements.

Andrew Sachs

Among the points of discussion expected in Sachs and Scheel’s presentation are the comparisons of broadcast caption quality against the original caption quality report done prior to file-based distribution and how this approach enables identification and isolation of potential errors in the broadcast chain.
BURLINGTON, MASS. – Volicon has introduced a new accelerated VOD/OTT content generation workflow based on the Capture and Share applications for the company’s Observer Media Intelligence Platform. Broadcasters can use these applications to establish efficient content repurposing workflows, with frame accurate closed captioning support that serve both social and digital media platforms, as well as content management systems and online video platforms that support VOD/OTT services.

The Observer Media Intelligence Platform allows broadcasters to capture media in real-time from any source and with any metadata, such as closed captioning. The Capture and Share applications offer three ways to create content to provide a fast and simple edit workflow.

The first is a rapid manual approach, in which the user can review and edit content as it is captured using mark in and mark out controls to generate clips. In semi-automated and fully automated approaches, the platform uses program-related keywords and ad insertion signals to identify and clip all segments of an episode; these clips can then be combined into a single clip for VOD/OTT distribution. The Observer can also clip and push content directly to an edit or MAM system.

Distribution of the finished product is then sped up by the Observer Media Intelligence Platform with single-button publishing profiles to ensure programming is delivered in the appropriate format.

Volicon is a provider of media intelligence, monitoring and compliance logging technology for broadcasters, networks, cable and IPTV operators.

BURLINGTON, MASS. – Volicon has announced its new Distribution Monitoring system for end-to-end path monitoring for linear broadcast and OTT service delivery. Leveraging Volicon’s Media Intelligence Platform, the new system provides users with a unified compliance and monitoring interface for distributed content.

The Distribution Monitoring platform performs automated monitoring across the full distribution path and channel lineup, reducing the amount of operator intervention needed to identify and address issues with a channel. The platform only highlights channels experiencing a problem. By comparing signals across key points, the system can identify anomalies, track faults back up the distribution chain, and identify the source of the issue.

Able to capture a full recording of content, the system allows operators to target priority problems first and then used stored audio, video, and metadata to examine and deal with past or intermittent issues. Users can also rewind or pause live or recorded content.

Volicon’s multiviewer option for Media Intelligence Platform allows users to extend the monitoring multiple channels to the desktop or monitor wall. OTT-Cloud and OTT-Devices applications also help monitor signals being fed to the cloud and what’s being experience via the streaming media application on the user device.

Volicon is a provider of enterprise media intelligence systems for broadcasters, networks, cable operators and governments.

Additional features include integrated content recording and simultaneous surround and stereo downmix measurements.

The Massachusetts-based Volicon is a provider of enterprise media intelligence technology for broadcasters, networks, cable operators and governments.
