NEW YORK—Vimeo said it rolled out new AI-powered features and creative tools that it said will make professional video production faster, smarter and more rewarding.

The new features, unveiled Oct. 23 at the company’s second annual REFRAME user conference here, also give creators and teams new ways to collaborate, search and monetize their work while maintaining full control of their content.

During the user conference, Vimeo also presented a slate of customer and creator discussions.

NEW YORK—Vimeo has unveiled its AI-powered video creation suite designed to enable users to record videos in one take and edit them in a few seconds.

The suite of tools makes it possible to generate a script from a text prompt, record the screen using a built-in teleprompter and delete unwanted content, such as filler words, such as “uh” and “um” in an instant, it said.

The AI-powered tools eliminate common barriers facing those who are uncomfortable with creating their own videos. They make it possible to generate a polished script quickly, act more naturally in front of the camera thanks to the teleprompter and remove unwanted moments in a few clicks, it said.

Applications include creating highlight reels, hosting virtual events and company meetings, making marketing video quote clips and cleaning up high-profile videos before sharing. More AI-powered tools are planned, it said. 

“AI in video opens up a new frontier of accessibility. Any individual or business now has the ability to produce engaging, professional content with no prior production experience, and within mere minutes,” said Ashraf Alkarmi, chief product officer at Vimeo. “This is just the beginning of our new and integrated AI video strategy, but we believe this launch will be a game-changer for how companies should be communicating and connecting with distributed teams and customers.”

The new AI tools will be available in July. A free trial is available as part of the company’s Standard/Pro subscription plan.

The internet has created another avenue for content creators to have their projects to present their works to viewers, but it still requires more than just uploading it and waiting for the views to make it go viral. A number of platforms provide a home for videos, be the a few seconds or feature length, but finding the right one is key.

Derick Rhodes is a vice president of marketplaces at Vimeo, one of the leading online video platforms. At this year’s Video Show, which takes place Dec. 4-5 in Washington D.C., he will take part in a session discussing alternative distribution methods for independent films, but we caught up with him to learn a little bit more about what separates Vimeo from some of its online video peers.

NEW YORK—Vimeo today announced a pair of new tools—Simulcast and Publish to Social—to help producers more easily blanket social media with their content.

Simulcast

Simulcast makes it possible for live events from the Vimeo platform to be simultaneously streamed on Facebook, YouTube, Twitch and Periscope. Publish to Social enables producers to publish their content natively to Facebook and YouTube with a single click. Both are available to members of specific paid Vimeo plans, the company said.

“Our new social distribution tools will give Vimeo creators a wider audience, deeper engagement and a fundamentally simplified distribution process,” said Vimeo CEO Anjali Sud in a press release.

Simulcast eliminates the need for producers to send separate streams to each desired social media platform, reducing overall bandwidth use and associated costs. Live streams distributed via Simulcast are archived automatically, the company said.

Publish to Social does away with the need to upload videos separately to different social platforms. It also increases the reach of a producer’s content because social platforms like Facebook favor native uploads and give them greater visibility, Vimeo said. The new tool also offers producers a way to track plays, likes and other stats on a side-by-side basis across platforms.

NEW YORK—Vimeo is now in the live streaming game, as the company announced the acquisition of live video solution Livestream and the launch of the new Vimeo Live service for live streaming capabilities. Vimeo will integrate Livestream technology to enable creators to capture, edit, stream and archive live events, as well as host, distribute and monetize videos.

The combination of Vimeo and Livestream will provide production hardware and software, including Livestream’s live event Mevo camera and live production switcher Studio. The technology will allow creators to broadcast Vimeo Live events in full 1080p with built-in cloud transcoding and adaptive streaming; auto-archived live videos on Vimeo can be replaced with files to support 4K viewing. There will also be new distribution and marketing tools, including the addition of Livestream’s syndication tools for live distribution across social platforms.

Vimeo will offer these new services with its OTT technology, enabling live content in branded apps on iOS, Android, Roku, Amazon, Samsung and other devices.

Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. The deal, which is subject to certain conditions, is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2017.
