LAS VEGAS—TMD will demonstrate its Mediaflex-UMS Orchestrator software-defined workflow engine at the 2018 NAB Show, which controls a wide range of third-party devices and integrates with numerous business systems.

Software-defined architectures and IP connectivity automate workflows—on premises, in the cloud or as a hybrid solution—to do exactly what the business requires. Media applications are available for every aspect of the media supply chain, including ingest, production, distribution and archive.

Composer

TMD will also show its Composer workflow designer, which allows workflows to be created, cloned and edited easily in-house without specialized programmers or TMD’s professional services. There is no restriction on the number of workflows or their complexity and workflow changes can go live in minutes without restarting the system.

TMD will introduce its Fidelity encoder for creating and watching content on the web, as well as an updated integration between Mediaflex-UMS and Avid Interplay production systems that lets Avid users select content, master clips or sequences, and trigger Mediaflex workflows to archive or distribute the media. Using the original Avid locators and metadata, journalists and editors can search for content within Mediaflex and restore media or sub clips to their Avid environments. Production planners can allocate jobs to editors, select content, create cut sheets and automatically push the content into Avid. Mediaflex-UMS recognizes IMF content, and automatically updates its metadata to reflect new material.

AYLESBURY, ENGLAND—TMD and Mediaproxy have put their heads together to come up with a new integrated content management workflow system. As a result of this collaboration, content captured by Mediaproxy’s LogServer can now be automatically added to the TMD Mediaflex-UMS database.

The collaboration results in Mediaflex-UMS driven software-defined workflows that will utilize Mediaproxy recorded content and metadata. Mediaflex users will be able to locate Mediaproxy assets by searching Mediaflex.

The content typically available as part of this integration, according to TMD and Mediaproxy, is off air program recordings and metadata.

AYLESBURY, ENGLAND—TMD is making a hop, skip and a jump across the Atlantic to install its Paragon+ software at Chicago-based Weigel Broadcasting Co. for digital asset and workflow management.

The Paragon+ application is designed for intelligent, media-aware workflows and runs on the Mediaflex-UMS platform. It supports interfaces to multiple external systems, delivering single point of content workflow orchestration.

Mediaflex-UMS will interface with two of Weigel’s existing program scheduling systems, playout automation and provide rule-based management of multiple tiers of storage. The software will track new assets and move them to the appropriate level of storage, as well as monitor quality control. TMD’s Analytics dashboard will provide KPI metrics for resource and business planning.

Weigel Broadcasting operates multiple stations in several TV markets, as well as networks MeTV, Heroes and Icons, Movies and Decades that are distributed to more than 300 U.S. TV stations.

LAS VEGAS—At the 2017 NAB Show, TMD will bring three new software “bolt-ons” to its media asset management systems, which are built on the Mediaflex-UMS (Unified Media Services) architecture. These enhancements can be added to any of TMD’s media service applications—including Media Packages, Media Misr and Media Lines—to expand their functionality.

Media Packages provides workflow management for the creation and delivery of packages to non-linear, over-the-top (OTT) platforms. Media Misr provides integration with third-party scheduling systems, automatically generates workflows based on those schedules, reports on missing content, and manages cache storage for transmission-ready content for playout systems. And Media Lines provides management of scheduled recordings of live feeds.

TMD will also introduce a new media service application for media logistics, which provides tools for managing the production supply chain from commissioning and ordering through program delivery. TMD’s Mediaflex-UMS Analytics, which are fast reporting, workflow-data dashboards with real-time analytics to monitor operational efficiency and quickly identify bottlenecks, also is expected to be shown.

AYLESBURY, ENGLAND—It’ll be a team effort between TMD and Quantum to try and bring seamless archiving to its customers. To do so the companies are planning to integrate TMD Mediaflex-UMS media service applications with Quantum’s Xcellis workflow storage system. TMD has also joined the Quantum Advantage Program, a platform where partners can test and qualify their technology with Quantum offerings.

Mediaflex-UMS enables users to manage the lifecycle of media content, including creation, digitization, repurposing, enrichment, delivery, publishing and archiving. When paired with the StorNext-powered Xcellis, Mediaflex-UMS can preserve content and maximize its value over a lifecycle, according to companies’ press release.

“This partnership brings to customers a combination of highly scalable and cost-effective archive solutions with effective media management throughout every stage of the content lifecycle,” said Anniek Snauwaert, director of technology alliances at Quantum.

AYLESBURY, ENGLAND—Paul Wilkins, a 30-year veteran of the broadcast and media industry, is joining the management team of TMD as its new director of solutions and marketing. Wilkins new role will see him handle customer requirements capture, workflow definition, system sales and developing the company’s market proposition.

Wilkins has experience working both as an end-user with companies like Avid and Sony. Most recently he ran his own consultancy business, delivering projects for international broadcasters and media organizations, including deployments of TMD’s Mediaflex asset and workflow management system.
