                                <p><strong>LOS ANGELES</strong>—The Television Academy Foundation is now accepting applications for its 2023 Summer Internship Program in Hollywood for media arts college students nationwide. The program offers approximately 50 paid, eight-week internships at top entertainment production companies. Online applications are currently being accepted through Jan. 19, 2023, at 5 p.m. (PST) at <a href="https://www.emmys.com/foundation/internships">TelevisionAcademy.com/Internships</a>.</p><p>The prestigious internship program gives students in-depth and hands-on professional experience working in a variety of television careers and professions at prominent Hollywood studios and production facilities. Internship categories include–but are not limited to–animation, cinematography, program development, directing, editing, interactive media, news and writing.</p><p>The program and its extraordinary opportunities are offered for undergraduate and graduate college/university media arts students for the summer of 2023. Internships may be in-person, hybrid or remote–depending upon the opportunity.</p><p>Finalists for these coveted opportunities are selected by members of the Television Academy; final selections are made by participating host companies. The program is designed to train, inspire and open doors for diverse and highly motivated students who might not otherwise have access to the industry.</p><p>Summer interns will also receive weekly professional-development sessions including panels with television-industry leaders, customized seminars on personal brand-building, and navigating the job market ahead.</p><p>Exclusively for Southern California college students, the Foundation also offers the “Getting Real Unscripted Internship” for students from disadvantaged backgrounds who are interested in nonfiction television careers. In addition, internships for foster youth in the greater Los Angeles area, provided through an endowment gift from Dick Wolf’s Wolf Family Foundation, are available.</p><p>“The Foundation is committed to providing career-advancement opportunities for students from all backgrounds,” said Cris Abrego, chair of the Television Academy Foundation. “Our Internship Program allows students from across the country to break into Hollywood in their desired media Professions.” </p><p>Established in 1980, the Foundation’s Internship Program has been instrumental in launching many careers of prominent writers, producers, directors, executives, and Emmy nominees and winners, the Academy said. All selected interns become lifelong members of the Television Academy’s alumni network, gaining access to exclusive networking opportunities, year-round industry events and an online alumni platform.</p>

                                <p><strong>LOS ANGELES</strong>—The Television Academy has announced the recipients of the 74th Engineering, Science & Technology Emmy Awards honoring an individual, company or organization for developments in broadcast technology.</p><p>The awards will be given out at the awards ceremony on Weds, Sept. 28, 2022, which will be hosted by Kirsten Vangsness, who starred for 15 seasons on the critically acclaimed CBS drama Criminal Minds and is starring in the upcoming 16th season of the series for Paramount+. </p><p>"Innovation is a vital part of television production; and the talented engineers, scientists and technologists we have recognized are essential to the growth of our industry," said Frank Scherma, chairman and CEO of the Television Academy. "These pioneering companies and visionaries have leveraged the power of technology to elevate television and storytelling in fundamental ways."</p><p>"Earlier this year the Academy formed the Science & Technology Peer Group representing members who are involved in the strategy and development of technologies that enable or advance the storytelling process for the television industry," added Committee chair John Leverence. "Under the leadership of the new peer group&apos;s governors and co-chairs Wendy Aylsworth and Barry Zegel, this year&apos;s newly constituted Engineering Emmy Awards Committee honors a wide range of innovative solutions to once seemingly intractable technical problems."</p><p>This year’s awards recipients for the Charles F. Jenkins Lifetime Achievement Award and the Philo T. Farnsworth Corporate Achievement Award are: </p><ul><li>The Charles F. Jenkins Lifetime Achievement Award, which honors a living individual whose ongoing contributions have significantly affected the state of television technology and engineering, will be given to Dr. Paul E. Debevec. Paul Debevec is awarded the 2022 Charles F. Jenkins Lifetime Achievement Award for his groundbreaking work in high dynamic range imaging, image-based lighting and photogrammetry, essential techniques used in computer graphics for VFX and Virtual Production. Debevec's pioneering work makes it possible to record and reproduce the light of real scenes to illuminate virtual scenes and vice versa. High dynamic range imagery is a mainstay of computer graphics and combined with image-based lighting, has enabled realistic integration of existing live-action lighting in computer-rendered images. These tools and concepts are now a standard within the VFX industry for rendering. The concepts and the innovative use of LED lighting Paul pioneered with the Light Stage have further laid the groundwork for the use of LED lighting in virtual production, which has seen a rapid growth as a tool for lighting actors on virtual stages.</li><li>The Philo T. Farnsworth Corporate Achievement Award, which honors an agency, company or institution whose contributions over time have significantly impacted television technology and engineering, will be given to ARRI. ARRI is awarded The Philo T. Farnsworth Corporate Achievement Award for its more than a century of designing and manufacturing camera and lighting systems as well as systemic technological solutions and service networks for a worldwide complex of film, broadcast and media industries. Cleanfeed is a high-fidelity "conference call" software as a service with a focus on audio production. It enables collaboration with audio-quality equivalent to all participants being together in the same studio and with low latencies for smooth interaction between talent. Aylsworth spent more than two decades with Warner Bros. Studios, ultimately as their senior vice president, technology, corporate technical operations. Earlier in her career, at The Walt Disney Company she directed technology support for the feature animation division as well as software development for theme park attractions worldwide. Aylsworth is a past president of the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers and is a past chair of the Television Academy’s Engineering Emmy Awards committee. She currently serves as the CEO of media technology consulting firm Walden Pond and president of the UltraViolet streaming service.</p><p>The <strong>Philo T. Replacing the traditional optical director’s viewfinder with intuitive digital tools, Artemis assists the user in creating storyboard images or videos, adding frame-lines, using virtual stand-ins, and experiment with color grading and so on. The sharing of images, notes and metadata gathered using Artemis enhances the communication between the different filmmaking disciplines, leading to increased creative control and production efficiency. Consequently, Artemis Director’s Viewfinder has become an industry standard tool.</p><p><strong>cineSync Review and Approval</strong></p><p>cineSync has revolutionized the way in which television shows can be pitched, produced and delivered by opening the doors to seamless international collaboration. cineSync users can remotely review and annotate on high-resolution, high-frame-rate video with other participants in any location. Collaborators view the exact same frame at the same time on a platform that delivers the high-level security features of watermarking, guest authentication and encryption that production studios today demand.</p><p><strong>Codex Recording Platform and Capture Media</strong></p><p>As television standards have evolved from standard definition recording to high definition, and now to high-dynamic range at 4K resolution and high frame rates, Codex’s technology for recording uncompressed RAW digital negatives allows digital storytellers to capture all the detail required for the highest quality final product. The followspot’s onboard HD camera, outfitted with optical zoom and night vision capacity, provides set designers and lighting directors efficiencies in overall rig weight, reduction in space usage (including “seat kills”) and increased flexibility for camera placements. Designers now have total creative freedom to put followspots in previously impractical places, avoid complex rigging and place operators on the floor. The PRG GroundControl Followspot System has become an essential lighting asset for the wide variety of studio and remote locations used by awards, reality and concert programs.</p><p><strong>The Engineering Plaque</strong> honors achievements that exhibit a high level of engineering and are important to the progress of the industry. The Engineering Plaque is a positive recognition of engineering achievements on a different level of technology and overall industry importance than the Engineering Emmy. This year’s recipient is <strong>CATS Cam</strong>, a unique application of video technology that gives wildlife filmmakers an unparalleled ability to obtain footage from an animal’s point of view without disturbing its natural behavior. Capable of recording up to 36 hours of image and sound on a multisensory-controlled video camera with maximum 4K resolution, CATS Cam can be programmed to record in different lighting situations, including infrared for nocturnal shoots.
