NEVADA CITY, Calif.—Telestream has unveiled the VLS-300 Vantage Lightspeed server, which it says boosts Vantage workflows “with unparalleled speed and efficiency in high-volume transcoding and media processing.”

As the first model of the next-gen Lightspeed servers, the VLS-300 delivers a 30% performance boost over its predecessor, thanks to its dual GPU configuration and state-of-the-art hardware components, according to Telestream.

"The new VLS-300 model is the next evolution of Telestream innovation in hardware that is purpose-built for the demands of high volume transcoding and media processing”, says Rich Andes, VP of Product Marketing for Vantage. “Built on years of expertise in designing high-grade servers to empower the Vantage platform, the 300 provides users unparalleled performance for critical operations that need the fastest end-to-end processing possible."

The VLS-300 sports two NVIDIA A4000 GPUs at its core as well as robust cooling systems, dual power supplies, and all solid-state storage. It features NVMe 800GB OS drives and dual 1.92TB media storage RAID drive bays as well as versatile Ethernet options, including 2-Port 1G/10G RJ45, and is ready for additional 25G and 100G network configurations.

NEVADA City, Calif.— The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo recently used Telestream gear to stream its 90th annual show. As the largest livestock exhibition and rodeo in the world, the annual 20-day event draws over 2.4 million spectators to Houston’s NRG Park complex, with thousands more watching the free live streams.

This year’s event—held Feb. 28-March 20—was captured by HLSR’s extensive array of broadcast video equipment and streamed out live in HDTV quality from three dual-channel Lightspeed Live Stream encoding systems from Telestream.

Since each of the three Lightspeed Live Stream encoders is a dual-channel system, each was able to encode and stream two separate live feeds simultaneously. Between the three units, there were a total of six channels—two were used to stream live HD program content for the organization’s website, rodeohouston.com, for a total of four feeds. This meant that viewers could choose any of the four streams to watch a different concurrent HLSR event.

While the daytime streaming audience was small, the viewers saw a polished multicamera switched show enhanced by graphical overlays, such as sponsor logos, and CG text. These program feeds emanated from one of HLSR’s two on-site production control rooms, each equipped with a large Grass Valley 3-M/E production switcher and a Ross Xpression for live graphics. These polished video signals flowed through the house routers to the Lightspeed Live Stream units in the nearby machine room. Online viewers could choose and jump between any of the four simultaneous live feeds depending upon which competitive events they’d like to see.

HLSR also provided a live program feed of the livestock show and rodeo events to three broadcast outlets, including The Cowboy Channel, Bally Sports Regional Sports Networks, and the local Telemundo affiliate, which received a Spanish language broadcast with Spanish speaking announcers.

Video crews used 20-plus Sony broadcast cameras—including Sony HDC-2750’s and HDC-1550’s—to shoot concurrent events taking place throughout NRG Park. The high production standard delivered in primetime was the same quality provided during the day on all four streaming channels. The audience size surged once the rodeo events began.

According to Gary Hazen, HLSR’s Senior Production Manager, “We generate four discreet RTMP streams that are sent to Microsoft Azure for distribution. The streaming packages are configured at 1280 x 720 and 30 frames per second [720/p30]. However, the camera input sources are HD-SDI video at 1920 x 1080i at 59.94 frames per second [1080/60i].” In terms of the encoding, the video is AVC 2,000 kbps, while audio is AAC at 128 kbps. The processing load is handled and optimized by the Lightspeed server’s GPUs. And Live Stream has a web-based graphical user interface (GUI) for easy configuration.

The Telestream Lightspeed Live Stream systems were purchased in early 2022 through the Dallas-based Value-Added Reseller (VAR) TM Television as a replacement to a solution that was aging out and no longer supported by the manufacturer. HLSR has used Telestream Vantage for years as part of a parallel Avid editing workflow.

“Quality and reliability matter greatly because it’s important for us to be the best at everything we do and to make this event the best in the world,” Davidson said. “Even though our online audiences tend to be small, we use broadcast-quality cameras, switchers, routers, and highly efficient encoders so that our content looks as good on screen as it does here in person.” The ability to scale the servers factored greatly into the buying decision.

LAS VEGAS–Cloud-based production from creation to distribution will be a key focus for Telestream at the 2019 NAB Show.

Telestream says the new products will enable faster time to market for service providers and content creators with “instant” channel creation and integrated video monitoring throughout the solution to create smart infrastructures with dynamic scale. Telestream has leveraged video monitoring technology from Telestream iQ solutions, as well as streaming technology from Lightspeed Live Stream to create “a unique, containerized, OTT video workflow orchestration and monitoring solution.”

New hybrid workflows will be demonstrated for content creators and distributors that can easily run processes on premises or in the cloud depending on where the media currently resides or will reside.

In addition to new products, Telestream will also showcase the latest version of its Vantage scalable, software-enabled media processing platform that manages all media services from the camera to the point of distribution. Advances include cloud and hybrid workflows, new camera ingest functionality, and Traffic Manager options with improved Grass Valley ITX integration. New Vantage features also include support for growing file support when uploading into IBM Aspera.

The company will also showcase a new UI and workflow for its Telestream iQ platform that makes it easy to read video distribution status for rapid issue detection and quickly drill down into the details to isolate and fix a problem. It includes real-time status visualizations, drill down navigation for troubleshooting across multiple dimensions, custom access roles and user profiles, viewership impact analysis with integrated end client analytics and the ability to monitor captioning and subtitle presence, performance, and video alignment. The solution is available for appliance, virtual and cloud-based deployments.

Telestream will also introduce Wirecast Live Captions and Wirecast Restream, two new web services hosted on Telestream Cloud. These capabilities solve two of the most common issues facing live streamers today: the creation of captions for live events and the need for efficient multi-platform distribution, even when upload bandwidth is limited.

The company will also demonstrate support for Edit@Home remote production, leveraging unmanaged high speed internet in its Lightspeed Live Capture platform. Built for Vantage, Lightspeed Live Capture, being built on the Vantage media framework, is the ideal enabler for this use case. For DAI (Dynamic Ad Insertion), the latest version of the system adds the ability to use a rules file that instructs the system how to react to SCTE-104 triggers. Lightspeed Live Capture also has new triggers for manual start/stop for automated recording workflows and record-on-activation for recording interruptions (i.e. a power outage).

Program and stream conditioning technology allows Lightspeed Live Stream to switch between live and scheduled sources and to prepare live content for frame-accurate ad insertion and content replacement, thus avoiding the need for downstream re-encoding. Now shipping with V-Nova’s PERSEUS Plus compression, support for SRT delivery, as well as synchronous dual redundant contribution to Unified Streaming’s Unified Origin.

The latest version of CaptionMaker will also be featured at Telestream’s booth. It now supports over 100 languages with auto-transcription and fully automated captioning and subtitling workflows. For high-volume, enterprise workflows, users can batch submit media using the Vantage Cloud Speech connector saving time and processing media faster.

LONDON –Telestream has added support for V-Nova’s PERSEUS Plus codec to its Lightspeed Live video streaming system, which is used by numerous major operators and video service providers worldwide.

Telestream Lightspeed Live provides live multiscreen encoding, packaging and distribution in addition to multichannel video capture and processing. V-Nova’s PERSEUS Plus enables video to be transmitted at half the bitrate of existing h.264 solutions whilst improving picture quality, and the low complexity of PERSEUS Plus h.264 also increases encoding density by 2-3x when compared to HEVC. V-Nova says this can enable the delivery of live 4K content at up to 70 percent more efficiency when compared to current competitive codecs,

PERSEUS will be available in Lightspeed Live Stream from version 3.0.

AMSTERDAM--Telestream will showcase the latest strategic advances and developments related to its broad product portfolio—spanning live streaming, video encoding/transcoding, video monitoring and analytics—at the 2018 IBC Show at the RAI in Amsterdam, Sept. 14-18, 2018. By adopting Telestream’s latest, intelligent media processing and file-based quality control, Unitymedia will be able to leverage this advanced video monitoring and analytics platforms throughout its network, which will help position its offerings as premium quality, and ensure that its technology investment is supporting its business development activities.

Telestream will also profile how the Fox Sports Operations & Engineering team has been using a solution integrating Telestream Vantage and Lightspeed Live with IBM’s Aspera FASPStream to produce Fox Sports' coverage of the 2018 FIFA World Cup from its Los Angeles facility. The combined solution enables high-quality streaming over standard IP networks to remote production teams for near real-time editing and production.

Visitors to Telestream’s 2018 IBC exhibit will also see the following new products, features and capabilities:

• Lightspeed Live for capture, encoding, packaging and delivery now offers scalable and social media-compatible caption insertion on multiple live streams with zero re-encoding and re-streaming, using sophisticated 608/708 caption insertion.
• New feature sets also streamline ingest for Avid workflows by creating Avid OPAtom MXF media with associated AAF files and automatically checking assets into Interplay or MediaCentral.
• Through greater integration with Avid, Vantage now supports MediaCentral directory monitoring and triggers jobs from MediaCentral ‘virtual directories.’.
• Vantage Post Producer’s titler engine allows for processing of NewBlue Titler Pro templates as part of Post Producer workflows for rich, animated graphics and titles. In addition, Titler Designer Pro now supports the import of Adobe After Effects projects direct into Vantage workflows.
• For its Wirecast live production and streaming platform, Telestream will debut Wirecast Live Captions, which provides the ability to embed live closed captions within streams using automatic speech recognition (ASR), and then distribute the content to YouTube, Facebook, and other RTMP destinations.
• Telestream will also debut Wirecast Restream, a cloud-based redistribution service that restreams live feeds to additional destinations simultaneously, saving bandwidth and processing power.
