BURLINGTON, Ontario—Evertz Technologies Limited has announced that it has come to terms on an asset purchase agreement with Harman International for the Studer brand, technology and related assets.

Studer is an audio brand that has been in operation for more than 70 years, developing tape decks, digital mixing consoles and more. Harman acquired Studer in 1994, since which point Studer has developed digital products like the Vista mixing console.

“We are pleased to welcome this iconic audio brand to our Evert family of products and solutions that has been serving the broadcast market for more than 50 years,” said Brian Campbell, executive vice president of Business Development at Evertz. “We also welcome the many valued Studer customers who depend on Studer technology and reliability to deliver the best audio to their audience.”

According to the announcement, Evertz plans to develop next-generation products to meet future broadcast customer needs, while also creating synergies between its current product suite and the Studer product environment.

“We saw an exciting opportunity to evolve these premium products with new products and feature development while having Studer continue to redefine how broadcast audio is produced,” said Campbell. 

Evertz’s acquisition of Studer is expected to be finalized by the close of the first quarter 2021. No financial details were provided on the deal.

PARIS—NextRadioTV, a French multi-media services company with TV, radio and digital operations, has outfitted eight studios in its new broadcast facility with Studer by Harman mixing consoles and routing systems.

Working with Paris-based Harman distributor Audiopole and systems integrator Red Bee Media, NextRadioTV equipped the studios with an eye toward improving efficiency and setting each up as a multipurpose space with identical equipment.

In April 2018, telecom operator and media firm Altice France, completed an acquisition of NextRadioTV. With the takeover, NextRadioTV moved to a new facility inside the Altice France headquarters with twice as many studios.

“When they [NextRadioTV] decided to move to a new premises, we started discussing the project, and they said that they wanted to use same type of console in both the radio and TV studios,” said Audiopole managing partner Jean-Phillipe Blanchard.

NextRadioTV installed identical Studer Vista V consoles in seven of the studios, which make it fast and easy to switch between radio and television with little to no downtime, said Harman.

The Studer Vista V console uses the company’s Quad Star technology and Infinity Core processor, which delivers the DSP power needed for demanding mixing tasks, as well as the redundancy to ensure uninterrupted broadcasts, it said.

The Vistonics interface and FaderGlow technology enable engineers to understand at a glance all important console parameters, thus speeding up live, complex workflows.

NewRadioTV’s largest new studio can be used for live television and radio broadcasts with a studio audience. For this application, the broadcaster has deployed a Studer Vista X console with the power and flexibility to deliver separate audience and broadcast mixes. The Vista X and Vista V share similar interfaces, so NextRadioTV engineers can leverage the same workflow in each studio.

The new facility also is outfitted with 10 Studer Compact Stage Boxes to support a high density of inputs for complex broadcasts, Harman said. A Studer Compact Remote Bay in each studio adds redundancy.

Two Studer Infinity Core 400 units provide centralized master audio routing, which makes I/Os from any of the studios available anywhere in the facility. Together, they are capable of accepting 5,000 inputs and outputs, Harman said. NextRadioTV also leverages the system’s ability to perform precise automatic mixing to add commentary to audio feeds received from sporting events throughout Europe.

SEOUL, South Korea — Harman Professional Solutions, parent of broadcast equipment maker Studer, has announced the availability of the Studer Vista 5 Black Edition console, which, the company says, has been designed for a more budget-conscious user, and applications such as radio and TV broadcast, OB trucks and houses of worship.

Leveraging the Studer Infinity Core processor, the Vista 5 Black Edition adds advanced capabilities to the Studer Vista 5 M3 mixing console platform, while providing a scalable mixing system that delivers full processing redundancy. Mark Hosking, director, of broadcast sales at Harman Professional Solutions, adds that it delivers “the sound quality our customers expect from Studer products,” in a more cost effective, yet full featured console.

Available in 22-, 32- and 44-fader sizes, Studer Vista 5 Black Edition consoles also feature Studer’s proprietary Vistronics interface and FaderGlow technology, dynamic EQ plug-ins and full Core redundancy with up to 1,000 MEQs (Mono Equivalent Channels).

Harman claims that this IT-friendly solution allows customers to run Studer’s real-time audio processing on their own server hardware just by adding a standard PCIe Infinity CoreLink card. And it supports Studer’s Infinity Core product line, including the Infinity Core 300, 600 and 1000, as well as the new Studer Infinity Core Commercial Off-the-Shelf solution.

WESTFORD, MASS.—Artel Video Systems and Harman’s Studer are teaming up to enable the Artel InfinityLink broadcast media transport system to transport Studer A-Link audio data across fiber infrastructures.

A-Link, which is found in Studer’s Vista V and Vista X digital consoles, can use the InfinityLink to provide a digital audio interface for transmitting 1536 channels of “zero latency” digital audio that can be transported between remote sites and the mixing console at a studio. The system also features a return fiber, enabling return audio circuits, control and status to be connected over the same link.

The optical multiplexing features of InfinityLink enable several A-Link streams, along with video and Ethernet, to be multiplexed on a single fiber, offering remote coverage that includes video, audio, control and communications over a single fiber pair.

Both companies are showcasing the new collaboration at IBC2016.

AMSTERDAM—Studer, a Harman brand, recently unveiled the Vista 1 Black Edition, a redesigned version of its Vista 1 digital mixing consoles, at IBC 2015. With a Vistonics user interface and 40 on-screen rotary knobs, the Vista 1 is now similar to the Vista X and Vista V models and features capabilities like true broadcast monitoring, talkback, red light control, GPIO, N-x busses, snapshot automation and DAW control.

Vista 1 Black Edition

The Vista 1 Black Edition comes with software v5.3, allowing SpillZone and FollowSolo functionality, as well as a server-based event logger application. With an integral DSP engine of 96 channels, the Vista 1 can handle mono, stereo and 5.1 inputs and comes with 32 mic/line inputs, 16 line outputs and four pairs of AES inputs and outputs on rear panel connections. I/O can be expanded with the Studer D21m card slot on the rear, which allows MADI, AES, AoIP, ADAT, TDIF, CobraNet, Dolby E/Digital, SDI connections and more. MADI links can connect to any of the Studer Stagebox range for XLR connectivity as well as other formats.

Additional features of the Vista 1 Black Edition include an integral jingle player, played from files on a USB jingle stick and triggered by a series of eight dedicated keys in the master section. The system also comes with redundant PSU and RELINK integration with other Studer Vista and OnAir consoles.

Harman features a number of brands that design and engineer connected products, including audio, visual, enterprise automation, and connected services.

NEW YORK—All Mobile Video is in the process of outfitting its latest remote truck and has announced that it has added the Harman Studer Vista X mixing console to the trucks infrastructure.

Studer Vista X

The Vista X features Studer’s Infinity Processing Engine DSP core, which uses CPU-based processors to provide control of 800 or more audio channels and 12 A-Link high-capacity fiber digital audio interfaces providing more than 5,000 inputs and outputs. Other features of the Vista X include Vistonics color touchscreen interface, VistaMix automated mic mixing, Quad Star technology, Dante connectivity, and two Lexicon PCM96 reverb and effects processors integrated into the console.

AMV’s new truck will feature three Studer Remote Stageboxes, all of which will be linked to the Vista X console. One of the Stageboxes is equipped with a Dante card.

The new truck will be operational by the end of 2015.
