NEW YORK—A series of updates within the StorNext 6 platform will be demonstrated in Quantum's booth at the NAB Show New York. The updates focus on extending collaboration globally and providing new data protection options. StorNext 6 highlights include a new quality of service (QoS) feature that allows facilities to tune and optimize performance across client workstations, and on a machine-by-machine basis.

The new FlexSpace feature allows multiple instances of StorNext, located anywhere in the world, to share a common content repository. Any user within a StorNext environment can access, browse and pull files from a shared workspace. FlexSync enables users to synchronize content between multiple StorNext systems in a manageable and automated fashion. FlexSync supports one-to-one, one-to-many and many-to-one file-replication scenarios, and can be configured to operate on specific files, specific folders or entire file systems.

SAN JOSE, CALIF.—After its unveiling at the 2017 NAB Show, Quantum has officially made the StorNext 6 available for shipping. The latest release of the company’s StorNext workflow storage platform, the StorNext 6 ships with Quantum’s Xcellis shared storage systems adding advanced data management for 4K performance.

With this new StorNext model, Quantum has provided scalable storage to deliver high performance for 4K workflows. A new quality of service feature also allows users to tune and optimize performance across workstations; allocate specific bandwidth to individual workstations; and set parameters on bandwidth consumption. Another addition is the FlexSpace feature, which enables multiple instances of StorNext located anywhere to share a single storage repository; offers shared repositories for public and private cloud storage using the S3 protocol; and provides facilities for protected off-site content storage. There is also the FlexSync capability that provides a way to synchronize content between multiple StorNext instances. Other new features include copy expiration, selectable retrieve, content auditing and tracking, and focused Mac Finder results for improving file management.

With its integration to the Xcellis, StorNext 6’s features can support multi-tier storage systems encompassing flash, spinning disk, object storage, tape and the cloud.

The StorNext 6 is shipping with all newly purchased Xcellis offerings and is available at no additional cost to current Xcellis users running StorNext 5 under existing support contracts.

The company is also bringing its Xcellis system and additional products that can work in collaboration with the two products or independently.

Quantum has given the StorNext 6 platform a series of updates that will be demonstrated at IBC. One such update is a quality of service feature that enables facilities to tune and optimize performance across all client workstations and on a machine-by-machine basis. There is also the FlexSpace Shared Arhcive, which allows for multiple instances of StorNext located anywhere to share a common content repository. Finally, the FlexSync multisite synchronization update provides a way to synchronize content between multiple StorNext systems in a manageable and automated fashion.

For the Xcellis, Quantum will showcase its new 4K reference architectures. These architectures were created from real-world 4K testing and scaled for facilities from small to large. The reference architectures are tuned to deliver predictable-stream-count workloads for the full range of 4K formats.

Additional products that Quantum has on its plate are the FlexTier public and private cloud access system and the Veritone artificial intelligence platform. FlexTier is a cloud-access feature that allows for integration of existing public-cloud storage accounts and third-party object storage into a StorNext environment and familiar media workflows. The Veritone, meanwhile, is a multi-engine AI platform in a Quantum StorNext-managed environment; this includes the Veritone aiWARE platform.

Quantum will also host a presentation theater where it will provide demonstrations of live multistream 4K and 8K color correction and editorial workflows.

Quantum will be located at booth 7.B27 during IBC 2017, which runs from Sept. 15-19 in Amsterdam.

Adding advanced data management features to the system, the StorNext 6 is designed to share and access content across teams and manage and protect archived content. The StorNext 6 will be offered in an integrated, multi-tier storage system with flash, spinning disk, object storage, tape and the cloud.

With real-world 4K testing and 4K reference architectures, the StorNext platform offers a new quality of service feature to specify bandwidth allocation to individual workstations for tasks like 4K playback or color correction; the QoS service can also set parameters to cap bandwidth for less timely or demanding tasks.

StorNext also has a new feature called FlexSpace, which allows multiple StorNext units share a single repository for increased collaboration. Files from different sites can be stored in a shared archive, as well as browsed and pulled from the repository. Shared archive options include both public cloud storage and private cloud storage or third-party object storage through FlexTier.

The new FlexSync feature provides the ability to synchronize content between multiple StorNext systems in an automated fashion. FlexSync supports one-to-one, one-to-many and many-to-one file replication scenarios and can be configured to operate with specific files, specific folders or entire file systems. The feature can recognize changes instantly and begin reflecting those changes on another system.

Additional features for the StorNext 6 include copy expiration and selectable retrieve; file system auditing; online stripe group management; and focused mac finder results.

Quantum will begin shipping the StorNext 6 platform with all newly purchased Xcellis and StorNext M-Series offerings, as well as Artico archive appliances, in early summer.
