Sigma Launches Aizu Prime Line of Cinema Lenses

RONKONKOMA, N.Y.—Sigma Corp. of America has introduced the Aizu Prime Line of cinema lenses, billing them as the world's first lineup of large-format cinema lenses to achieve an aperture value of T1.3 across all focal lengths.

The lineup of 12 lenses for the PL Mount and the Sony E-mount features a consistent T1.3 aperture across the full range from 18 millimeters to 125 mm. The initial release includes eight lenses with focal lengths from 25 mm to 75 mm, covering core cinematic production needs.

The first lenses are expected to be released in August with a suggested retail price of $8,299.

In announcing the launch, the company highlighted these key features:

A consistent T1.3 across all focal lengths. The T1.3 aperture enables exceptionally shallow depth of field and graceful bokeh, seamlessly separating the subject while preserving a natural sense of depth and dimensionality. This refined visual language draws the viewer into the frame with a subtle yet powerful presence.
Optical design for the demands of cinema. All lenses in the Aizu Prime lineup feature an optical system developed exclusively for cinema applications. While maintaining modern sharpness, they avoid rigid or harsh depictions—delivering a natural, organic look. They provide quiet elegance and depth to the image, with distortion and focus breathing carefully minimized to ensure visual consistency, even in dynamic scenes.
Huge perspective range coverage. The Aizu Prime Line is designed as a system to cover a wide range of focal lengths from 18mm to 125mm. Initially, eight core lenses ranging from 25 mm to 75 mm are being released, followed by 18-mm and 21-mm wide-angle lenses, and 100-mm and 125-mm telephoto lenses. This comprehensive system, covering from ultra-wide-angle to telephoto, is adaptable to diverse scenes and compositions.
Completely consistent look. Consistency of color balance, contrast, and flare characteristics ensures seamless integration between scenes, bringing a high level of harmony to the entire visual narrative across the lineup from 18mm to 125mm.
⌀46.3-mm image circle. The large ⌀46.3-mm image circle ensures full coverage not only for full-frame and Super 35 formats, but also for the latest large-format cameras such as the ARRI ALEXA LF Open Gate and VistaVision. This capability enables uncompromised filmmaking across a diverse range of projects.
High-impact close-up expression. The short minimum focusing distance enables striking close-up shots. By getting closer to the subject, the Aizu Prime lenses create visual tension and dramatic effects, adding impactful depth to the imagery.
A compact design that unleashes creativity. Despite being built for large-format coverage and featuring an ultra-fast T1.3 aperture, the Aizu Prime lenses remain remarkably lightweight. This rare balance of exceptional speed and mobility offers the flexibility and creative freedom demanded by modern productions—from dolly and Steadicam to gimbal and handheld operation.
Precise operation and durability. The Aizu Prime lenses offer precise control, exceptional durability, and ease of maintenance. Despite its compact housing, it delivers unwavering reliability in demanding shooting environments. Every mechanical detail—from the wide focus rotation angle to the equal-pitch aperture ring—embodies the engineering expertise cultivated through the Sigma High Speed Prime series.
Supports ZEISS eXtended Data. The Aizu Prime lenses support ZEISS eXtended Data, offering real-time lens metadata during shooting. It also enables the export of distortion and shading correction data, streamlining workflows for VFX productions.

The lineup includes separate lenses for the PL and Sony-E mount for 25 mm, 27 mm, 32 mm, 35 mm, 40 mm, 50 mm, 65 mm and 75 mm. Lenses for 100 mm and 125 mm will be available later.

Sigma Releases Firmware Update for Sigma fp Camera

RONKONKOMA, N.Y.—Sigma Corporation of America has launched an updated firmware for the Sigma fp camera. The company says that v2.00 is the camera’s first major update.

Among the new functions available via the updated firmware are Cinemagraph creation and playback; CinemaDNG footage playback; still capture during live view and movie shooting in Cine mode; still image capture from movie files shot with the Sigma fp; HDR in movie shooting; and still and movie shooting in Director’s Viewfinder mode.

In addition RAW recording over HDMI is now available when working with the Atmos Ninja V monitor-recorder. This will enable recording of Apple ProRes RAW at up to DCI 4Kp24 or UHD 4kp30 directly from the camera’s full-frame sensor. Atmos adds that the addition of Ninja V tools and accessories can turn the Sigma fp into a fully rigged cinema-style camera. The Ninja V 5-inch 1,000nit HDR high brightness display also enables Sigma fp users to view the RAW signal in HDR in a choice of HLG or PQ formats.

There is also support for recording Blackmagic RAW codec over HDMI with Blackmagic Video Assist 12G models.

Other new features include camera movement compatible with ZHIYUN Weebill S gimbal; instruction messaging explaining an error appears when attempting to use greyed-out items in SHOOT menu; and support for camera control in USB mode.

The new firmware also offers function updates and enhancements. These include:

Support for Dual Base ISO (ISO100 and 3200)
Improved AF performance
Improved accuracy with evaluative exposure metering
Improved image quality
Support for CinemaDNG 25 and 29.97 fps (UHD 12bit) shooting

Exposure adjustment now available in QS (Quick Set) Menu
Tone control setting now available during movie shooting
Support for USB Video Class (UVC) setting adjustments while the fp is connected to USB
Support for time code generation
Compatible with BWF format
Support for file size changes at aspect ratio 7:6
Optional shutter sound effect

Sigma has also instituted a bug fix regarding the flickering phenomenon in dark video footage in v2.00.

The new Art Prime PL-mount lenses from Sigma now support Cooke Optics’ /i Technology communication protocol. This is the latest addition to the Sigma Cine lens family for filmmaking in the FF High Speed Prime Line.

Optimized for large-format camera systems and 8K shooting, the FF High Speed Prime Line lenses deliver stunning image quality in compact construction. The new addition to this prime lens lineup comes with electronic contacts that supports Cooke's /i Technology communication protocol for Art Prime PL-mount lenses. Customization service will be available to customers with existing PL-mount primes in the future as Sigma will begin phasing out the original PL-mount prime build.

By using an /i Technology-compatible cine lens with a cine camera that supports the same protocol, users can see and record lens metadata such as focus distance, focal length, and aperture. This helps streamline compositing in the post production process.

With dimensions of 112.6×69.9×45.3mm and body weight of 370g, the all-new Sigma fp is the world’s smallest and lightest full-frame mirrorless digital camera. It is equipped with a 35mm Bayer full-frame sensor with 24.6 megapixels in a compact body. Suitable for everyday use by photographers of all skill levels, from novices to the most discerning professionals, the Sigma fp produces images that are of the highest quality, capable of supporting both serious still and cine shooting.

The Sigma fp is purpose-built with durability in mind. Its dust and splash-proof body make it ideal for long hours in various shooting environments. The absence of a mechanical shutter removes the potential for noise and shutter shock while increasing reliability. The Sigma fp uses the L-mount, characterized by a short flange focal length, large diameter, and superior durability. In addition to the wide-ranging choices of Sigma lenses, other manufacturers' lenses can be used through the L-Mount Alliance with Leica Camera AG and Panasonic Corporation. With the Sigma Mount Converter MC-21, Sigma SA mount and Sigma Canon EF mount lenses can also be used.

By supporting 12-bit CinemaDNG external recording for RAW video data and 4K UHD/24fps recording, the Sigma fp is capable of full-fledged video production. Sigma Mount Converter MC-21:

Features

The Sigma Mount Converter MC-21 allows Sigma’s SA mount and Canon EF mount lenses to be used on L-Mount camera bodies, allowing more freedom of choice for L-Mount cameras from Sigma, Leica and Panasonic. The MC-21 increases the number of interchangeable lenses manufactured by Sigma to be used with the L-Mount system by 29 lenses.

About L-Mount

The L-Mount was developed by Leica Camera under the proviso of providing customers with a future-proof, flexible, robust and precise bayonet mount that would fulfill even the most demanding photographic needs. Since its initial appearance in 2014 within the Leica T, development of the L-Mount was continued by Leica as well as by its strategic partners, which led to significant improvements and therefore an effectively new and more polished L- Mount technology.

To ensure maximum product diversity, the diameter of 51.6 millimeters was chosen to make the L-Mount suitable for use not only with full-frame cameras, but also on cameras with APS- C sensors. The short register of only 20 millimeters enables a short distance between the lens and the sensor, which in turn enables considerably more compact construction – which is particularly helpful for developments in the wide-angle lens segment. To ensure resistance to even the most extreme stresses, and to guarantee customers maximum reliability in many years in intensive use, the camera bayonets are manufactured from wear-resistant stainless steel and with four flange segments that prevent canting and ensure particularly secure and precisely positioned lens attachment. The standardized L-Mount contact strip ensures trouble- free communication between the electronic components of the lens and the camera – including the possibility of installing future firmware updates for lenses to react to technological advances and exploit the full performance potentials of the lens.

The lens mount is currently used in the Leica SL full-frame camera system and the Leica CL, TL2 and TL APS-C camera models. All lenses made for the various different systems can be used on all cameras without adapters and without any functional limitations – this illustrates only one of the numerous benefits the common bayonet brings for customers.

Sigma Cine 40mm T1.5 FF is a fast and sharp T1.5 cine lens compatible with full-frame camera sensors and optimized for ultra-high-resolution 6K-8K productions. Featuring a 180-degree focus rotation, this lens is available in EF, E and PL mounts with lens support foot and cap included.

Sigma Adds Three New Lenses to Its Cine Lens Lineup

September 11, 2018 – Sigma is pleased to announce the development of three new Sigma Cine lenses in the FF High Speed Prime Line: 28mm T1.5 FF, 40mm T1.5 FF and 105mm T1.5 FF. With these additions, the FF High Speed Prime Line now includes ten lenses covering 14mm to 135mm and T1.5 to T2, giving cinematographers even more options to empower their artistic expression and take their cinematic vision to the next level.

New Models in the Sigma Cine FF High Speed Prime Line

Sigma Ships Its 14mm F1.8 Art, 135mm F1.8 Art and 70mm F2.8 MACRO Art Lenses for Sony E-Mount Cameras with Full-Frame Sensors

Ronkonkoma, NY – August 9, 2018 –Sigma Corporation of America, a leading still photo and cinema lens, camera, flash and accessory manufacturer, today announced availability of three of its interchangeable Art prime lenses for Sony E-mount camera systems – Sigma 14mm F1.8 DG HSM($1,599 USD), Sigma 70mm F2.8 DG MACRO ($569.00 USD) and Sigma 135mm F1.8 DG HSM($1,399 USD) – through authorized US retailers.

Offering the same high-performance optical design as other lenses in the Art line, the new Sony E-mount models feature a newly developed control algorithm that optimizes the autofocus drive and maximizes the data transmission speed. In addition, these lenses are compatible with Sony’s Continuous AF (AF-C) and high-speed autofocus, which are not addressed by Sigma Mount Converter MC-11. Like MC-11, the lenses are compatible with in-camera image stabilization and in-camera lens aberration correction, which includes corrections for peripheral illumination, chromatic aberrations and distortion.

Key Features and Benefits

Thanks to an autofocus drive control program tuned for each lens and high-speed data transmission, the lenses offer a high-speed autofocus at the same performance level as that of a lens designed exclusively for mirrorless cameras. In particular, in E-mount cameras offering Sony’s Fast Hybrid AF, AF-C mode delivers exceptional subject following performance. Autofocus remains extremely precise even in those E-mount cameras offering only contrast AF.

The lenses are compatible with in-camera image stabilization. The Sony E-mount camera senses the focal length of the lens and automatically optimizes image stabilization performance.

The lenses are fully compatible with in-camera aberration correction, which includes corrections for peripheral illumination, chromatic aberrations and distortion. By matching corrections to the
optical characteristics of the lens, this function takes image quality to an even higher level.

Making the mount native to the lens means a more rigid and stable feel to the lens. Featuring a special surface treatment to enhance strength, the brass bayonet mount offers a high-precision fit and exceptional durability. The mount connection area incorporates rubber sealing for dust- and splash-proof construction.

This service converts the mount of Sigma lenses to that of a different camera body, allowing photographers to continue using their favorite lenses over the long term regardless of camera system.

Designed with extensive input from cinematographers, the Sigma Cine product line supports PL, E, EF camera systems. Features include standardized gear positions and filter sizes, 180° focus rotational angle, 160° zoom rotational angle, 60° linear iris ring with full manual control, dust-proof and splash-proof construction and EF/E mount interchangeability. When attached to a wide-angle matte box compatible with 6.6" x 6.6" square type filters such as the ARRI LMB-6 (2-stage), the setup allows cinematographers to film on full-frame cameras without undesired vignetting. The Clamp-On Ring 162mm COR-11, along with Sigma Cine lens lines – High Speed S35 Zoom, FF Zoom and FF High Speed Prime, will be on display at the 2018 NAB Show in Las Vegas from April 9th through April 12th in booth C10308.

Pricing and availability of Sigma COR-11 will be announced at a later date.

2018 NAB Show: Sigma to Introduce a 14-24mm F2.8 Art Lens

LAS VEGAS—Sigma will introduce its new 14-24mm F2.8 DG HSM Art wide aperture zoom lens at the 2018 NAB Show. Designed for 50-megapixel plus cameras, the Sigma 14-24mm F2.8 DG HSM Art lens produces sharpness with three FLD glass elements, three SLD glass elements and three aspherical lens elements, one of which is 80mm high precision molded glass.

With less than 1 percent distortion and minimal transverse chromatic aberration, flare and ghosting, the new lens offers constant F2.8 brightness throughout the zoom range, accurate, high-speed autofocus and quality imaging at every focal length and distance. The rugged lens works with Sigma’s MC-11 Sony E-mount converter and supports Canon, Nikon and Sigma mounts.

Sigma also has a new fee-based front mount conversion service that converts the lens’ petal-type hood to an exclusive round component for use in multi-camera VR scenarios without causing shadows in the content or interference with other lenses in the VR rig.
