EXTON, Pa.—One of the headline speakers at this year’s SCTE-ISBE Cable-Tec Expo will be Emmy Award-winning television host, New York Times columnist and technology expert David Pogue. Pogue, who will speak during the Cable-Tec Expo Annual Awards Luncheon, is slated to talk about how new technologies, including those dealing with cable telecommunications, are impacting how people live.

Pogue is well known for covering and giving tech reviews through his column and TV reports on “CBS Sunday Morning” and “Nova.” He is a best-selling “how to” author, writing more than 100 books and selling more than three million print copies.

“With his unique blend of subject matter expertise and personality, David Pogue has guided consumers through one of the most transformational technology periods in history,” said Mark Dzuban, president and CEO of SCTE-ISBE. “As our industry accelerates toward the goal of 10G services, we can all benefit greatly from David’s insights into technology disruption and the benefits for our customers.”

ATLANTA—Dr. Bernardo Huberman will be a special guest speaker during the Opening General Session of SCTE•ISBE Cable-Tec Expo 2018 on Tuesday, Oct. 23, Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta. As a fellow and vice president of the Core Innovation Team for CableLabs, Dr. Huberman will talk about how artificial intelligence, data analytics, driverless vehicles and drones and network virtualization. He will also address how Silicon Valley’s energy management research aligns with the cable industry’s Energy 2020 program.

At CableLabs, Dr. Huberman leads development in artificial intelligence, PHY and MAC layer communications network technologies, and Software Defined Networking and Network Functions Virtualization. He previously served as the senior vice president and Senior Fellow at Hewlett Packard Enterprise Company, and director of the Mechanisms and Design Lab at HP Labs.

ATLANTA—At the SCTE-ISBE CableTecExpo 2018 Expo, cable TV leaders will outline how the cable industry is harnessing their organizations’ strengths to advance near- and long-term technology deployments that could help the industry maintain its leadership role amidst rapid marketplace changes.

Michael Powell, president/CEO of NCTA, Phil McKinney, president/CEO of CableLabs and Mark Dzuban, president/CEO of the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers and its global arm the International Society of Broadband Experts, will participate in the Opening General Session panel, "An Integrated Circuit: Closing the Links Between Innovation, Deployment and ROI.” The panel will take place Tuesday, Oct. 23, and will be moderated by Tony Werner, president, technology and product, Comcast Cable. Cox Communications President Pat Esser will keynote the Opening General Session. The 2018 Cable-Tec Expo runs Oct. 22-25.

EXTON, PA.—Cox Communications President Pat Esser will keynote the Opening General Session of SCTE-ISBE Cable-Tec Expo 2018, Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2018, in Atlanta.

In his address, Esser is expected to discuss how product innovation and excellence in service delivery can help the broadband/telecommunications industry maintain its leadership position in an increasingly competitive and evolving media and entertainment landscape.

“SCTE-ISBE and Cable-Tec Expo play important roles in ensuring that we have the standards, the workforce training, and applied science leadership that can enable our industry to stand out from the crowd of competitors,” Esser said.

A 30-year industry veteran and 2013 recipient of NCTA’s Distinguished Vanguard Award for Leadership, Esser has been regarded a top executive at Cox Communications since 2006. He also serves on the board of directors of C-SPAN, CableLabs, and NCTA—The Internet & Television Association, as well as adviser to the National Association for Multi-Ethnicity in Communications (NAMIC). Under his management, Cox earned numerous accolades for diversity and inclusion.

The Society Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers and its global arm, the International Society of Broadband Experts seek to prepare and support their members by promoting peer networking opportunities, professional mentoring, training, standards development, and technology that enable them to generate more revenue, streamline operations, and increase customer retention and satisfaction.

EXTON, PA.—Paper proposals are now being accepted for the Fall Technical Forum at SCTE-ISBE Cable-Tec Expo 2018. Put on by the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers, the International Society of Broadband Experts, NCTA—The Internet & Television Association and CableLabs, the Forum is looking for proposals in 10 categories that will be presented during the Expo.

The categories that this year’s Fall Technical Forum will highlight are Wireline Access Network; Wireless Access Network; Internet of Things; digitizing the customer experience; cloud & virtualization; operational transformation; business services; video services; virtual reality and augmented reality; and security.

Proposals will be judged by the Expo 2018 Program Committee, which is chaired by Kevin Hart, executive vice president and chief product and technology officer for Cox Communications. The proposals are due by March 30.

Selected papers, in addition to being part of the Forum, will be published in the “Fall Technical Forum Proceedings” archival body of technical literature. Also, presenters for the Innovation Theater will be determined from the Call for Papers.
