The Society of Broadcast Engineers has announced the recipients of the Ennes Educational Foundation Trust educational scholarships for 2026. The winners—who are chosen from applications received by the July 1, 2026, deadline—will each receive $3,000.

Harold E. Ennes Scholarship
Diovany Deus, recipient of the Harold E. Ennes Scholarship. Diovany is a Broadcast Systems Technician at WESH 2/CW 18 in Orlando, Fla., and an SBE Certified Broadcast Television Engineer (CBTE) pursuing a Master of Science in Information Technology. He specializes in broadcast operations, streaming technologies and media automation, with a strong passion for advancing the future of television through innovation.

Throughout his career, Diovany has focused on developing practical solutions that bridge traditional broadcasting with emerging technologies, including cloud-based broadcast systems and artificial intelligence. His work is driven by a commitment to improving operational efficiency, automation, and the viewer experience.

Following graduation, Diovany plans to continue developing innovative technologies that modernize broadcast infrastructure and help shape the future of media.

Robert D. Greenberg Scholarship
Brendan Temkin, recipient of the Robert D. Greenberg Scholarship, is an active member of Hofstra University's award-winning radio station, WRHU. As part of Brendan’s role, he has engineered for the On-Air Ireland Show, hosted the Country Nation Show, produced highlights and engineered for the New York Islanders Radio Network, and delivered sports segments for Newsline.

Brendan’s technical work extends to audio engineering and phone AD for the Long Island Nets broadcasts, while holding on-air roles including color commentary and play-by-play for the Long Island Ducks. Next semester, he will serve as Lead Producer for the New York Islanders on WRHU overseeing live game broadcasts and attending games to interview players.

Brendan’s professional experience also includes promotions with the New York Mets, sales with the Long Island Ducks, and a recent internship in Broadcast Operations at Paramount, where he gained hands-on experience with major-network workflows and production systems. His goal after graduation is to work for a New York City company in broadcast engineering.

Youth Scholarship
Adrianna Taliercio, recipient of the Ennes Youth Scholarship, is a 2026 graduate of Wall High School in Wall Township, NJ. Her interest in broadcasting began during her freshman year when she enrolled in a television production and media creation course. She continued studying the field throughout high school and gained hands-on experience as a member of Wall High School’s Daily Morning Show. Through this experience, she developed an appreciation for both the creative process and the equipment and technology required to produce a live broadcast.

In Fall 2026, she will begin studying communication at Monmouth University, where she plans to focus on sports media and content creation. She looks forward to expanding her knowledge of broadcasting and media technology while gaining practical experience in college. Her goal is to pursue a career that combines the creative and technical sides of media, with a particular interest in sports broadcasting and content production.

John H. Battison SBE Founder’s Scholarship
Katie Herring is the recipient of the John H. Battison SBE Founder’s Scholarship. After high school, Katie began working for MH Corbin, a highway information systems company that manufactures, builds, and tests equipment such as traffic counters, beacon controls, and AM Highway Advisory Radio. Her interest in radio started by learning from her grandfather, Ralph Herring, who founded Wake Radio at Wake Forest University and built their transmitter while he was a student there in 1948.

This fall, Katie will graduate from Wake Tech Community College’s NCAB Broadcast Technology Academy with her CBT Radio certification. She plans to use the scholarship to pursue additional coursework in physics and electrical engineering while preparing for graduate school.

Gino Ricciardelli Scholarship
Tanner Denoyer, recipient of the Gino Ricciardelli Scholarship was born and raised in Liberal, Kan. He is a graduate of Liberal High School (Class of 2026) and a current student at Wichita State University. He possesses a strong interest in technology, actively developing his skills in coding and 3D modeling. Tanner has been actively involved in broadcast media since 2020, starting as a board operator for KSCB Radio in Liberal. He completed a semester-long studio engineering internship under John Mulhern at KSCB this past January.

After graduating from WSU, Tanner plans to leverage his background into a career in electrical engineering, focusing on designing and testing high-efficiency broadcast systems.

INDIANAPOLIS—The Society of Broadcast Engineers has named the late Joseph A. DiMaggio as the Robert W. Flanders SBE Engineer of the Year, the top honor in the 2026 SBE National Awards recognizing outstanding achievements by SBE members, local chapters and SBE Sustaining Member companies.

DiMaggio, who retired as chief engineer of NBC-owned WVIT New Britain-Hartford-New Haven, Conn., where he worked for 47 years, is being recognized posthumously for his outstanding contributions to broadcast engineering and SBE Connecticut Valley Chapter 17, of which he was a founding member.

DiMaggio and the other honorees will be recognized at the SBE 2026 National Meeting and Midwest Regional Broadcasters Clinic, Sept. 15-16 in Middleton, Wis.

“The SBE Awards Program recognizes the outstanding efforts of SBE members and chapters,” said Zuhlieta Ibisheva, CBTE, CBT, the SBE awards committee chair. “Peer recognition is the highest honor, and the recipients and nominees exemplify the ideal of being an SBE member.”

Also to be honored in Wisconsin is Jerry Brown, CPBE, of Oxford, N.C., this year’s James C. Wullman SBE Educator of the Year and a member of Chapter 93 Raleigh-Durham. An SBE member since 1983, Brown played a key role in creating the North Carolina Association of Broadcasters’ Broadcast Technology Academy in 2025. The multiweek course also utilizes SBE’s Technical Professional Training Program, the group said.

The 2026 SBE Technology Award winner is Dielectric, recognized for its RingMaster FM antenna system, a technology that delivers full-bandwith FM performance with fewer components, reduced weight and lower costs, SBE said. To date, RingMaster has been adopted in more than 20 major installations worldwide, the organization said.

The Facility Innovation of the Year Award was won by John-Erik M. Rempillo, CBPE, of CBC, for “Testing Kit on the Go,” which enables safe, off-site diagnosis and repair of faulty power supplies in the Canadian broadcaster’s NV and VS series transmitters, eliminating the risks of live-system troubleshooting. CBC used the portable kit to restore five of eight faulty modules at its Toronto operation, SBE said, saving $7,500 in procurement costs and reducing electronic waste.

Chapter 39 in Tampa, Fla., won the Best Chapter Communication Award for electronic newsletter “Quarterly Digest,” produced by Membership Chair Isaiah Chavez.

The Best Chapter or Regional or Regional Educational Event Award went to Chapter 37 Washington, D.C., for “AntennaFest 2025: Shared Signals.” Held at the Arlington, Va., headquarters of WETA Washington, AntennaFest brought together industry leaders and companies such as Nautel, American Amplifier Technologies, Dielectric, Electronics Research and American Tower Corp. for a day of expert presentations on shared antennas and combining systems, SBE said.

The SBE also recognized local chapters for driving membership growth and professional development throughout 2025, dividing honors into Class A (under 25 members) and Class B (25 or more members) based on year-end statistical data. Top statistical honors went to Chapter 85 (Central Western, Okla.) and Chapter 15 (New York City) for highest percentage growth of new members; Chapter 115 (Southern Idaho) and Chapter 131 (Inland Empire, Calif.) for highest percentage of certified members; and Chapter 38 (El Paso, Texas) and Chapter 69 (Alamo Area) for highest percentage of meeting attendance.

Individual chapters also selected their own Chapter Engineer of the Year, to be automatically considered for the Robert W. Flanders SBE Engineer of the Year award: Sharon Gould (Chapter 1); Joseph DiMaggio (Chapter 14); Edward Smith (Chapter 17); William Harrison (Chapter 37); Bruno Cruz (Chapter 38); Dylan Scott (Chapter 39); Saul Perez (Chapter 47); Bob Long (Chapter 70); and Davit Robakidze (Chapter 148).

The Society of Broadcast Engineers says that chapters are the lifeblood of the association. This year marks the fifth year that the Chapter Engineer of the Year Award, which has highlighted the achievements of select members within their chapters.

In 2018 six chapters selected their own award recipients. Each winner is to be presented with a special certificate and be recognized nationally on the SBE website and in a future issue of The Signal. The six chapter winners also were automatically nominated for the national Robert W. Flanders SBE Engineer of the Year Award. The 2018 national winner, Mark Persons, represented Chapter 17 as its Chapter Engineer of the Year Award winner.

The 2017 Broadcasters Clinic in Wisconsin won for Best Chapter Regional Educational Event.

Chapter 16, Seattle, won for Best Chapter Communication.

Rob Sobol of Hilights won the award for Best Technical Article, Book or Program by an SBE member for “NOC, NOC. Who’s There?” in AGL Magazine.

Many awards were given for chapter member numbers and accomplishments.

INDIANAPOLIS—The Society of Broadcast Engineers has named Steve Brown as the 2017 Robert W. Flanders SBE Engineer of the Year. Also, Tony Peterle has been chosen as the James C. Wulliman SBE Educator of the Year. Both are considered to be the society’s highest individual awards and were announced in a press release alongside other national and chapter awards.

All will recognized during the SBE National Awards Dinner on Oct. 26 at the SBE National Meeting in Denver, held in conjunction with the Rocky Mountain Audio/Video Expo.

Brown is recognized for excellence in his 40-year career while furthering the mission of the SBE. Contributions include serving as SBE Chapter 17 chairman and a former member of the SBE National Board of Directors. His career began in 1977 as an engineer at WWTC in the Twin Cities, and Brown was one of the first engineers to utilize a helicopter to make relative field measurements of pattern of a FM radio station. He lives in Robbinsdale, Minn., and recently retired — this time for good; he “retired” in 2004 to serve as a contract engineer, during which time he was involved in building more than 20 HD Radio stations.

Peterle, CPBE, is is recognized for outstanding service and excellence in sharing knowledge through teaching other broadcast engineers. In his day job, he is the technical support manager at WorldCast Systems. He is credited with training engineers about SNMP through SBE University, Ennes workshops and SBE webinars. Peterle began in radio in 1975, reporting traffic in Honolulu and Seattle, and migrated to the broadcast engineering side when he was in Wichita and Kansas City, Kan. He now lives in Miami and is a member of Chapter 53.

Additionally, John Payne and Vislink have been awarded the 2017 SBE Technology Award for spearheading the launch of Newsnet, a wireless ecosystem that establishes a bi-directional IP network for ENG use. Newsnet establishes a high-speed and reliable bi-directional IP network utilizing 2 GHz BAS licensed spectrum, thereby increasing the number of live ENG transmissions and workflows that can now be performed from the field.

James Dalke, CPBE, 8-VSB, AMD, CBNT, has been recognized with the award for the Best Technical Article, Book or Program by an SBE Member. His 2017 NAB Broadcast Engineering & Information Technology Conference presentation on “Using Satellite VSATs for Broadcast STL” earned him the honor.

The 2016 Ohio Broadcast Engineering Conference has won for Best Chapter Regional Educational Event.

Each category is broken into two based on chapter size. INDIANAPOLIS – The Society of Broadcast Engineers have announced the recipients of the 2015 SBE National Awards, recognizing excellence and achievement by individual members, SBE Chapters and Sustaining Member companies.

Roswell D. Clark

The Robert W. Flanders SBE Engineer of the Year award, one of the highest individual awards, was presented to Roswell D. Clark, CPBE, CBNT, from Clearwater, Fla. Clark serves as treasurer for SBE Chapter 39 in Tampa, Fla. Clark is a 30-year veteran of the broadcast industry, currently working as the director of technical operations for Cox Media Group. The group of nominees for this award were selected by their individual Chapters as their Chapter Engineer of the Year. Eight others were nominated with Clark and will receive a special certificate and recognized on SBE’s website and in The Signal.

Clark’s Chapter in Tampa also was the winner of the SBE’s other major individual award, the James C. Wulliman SBE Educator of the Year award, which recognizes outstanding service and excellence in sharing knowledge through teaching other broadcast engineers. Chapter 39 was recognized for its annual day-long technical training seminar it has held every year since 2009. The 2015 Symposium is scheduled for Nov. 12.

BlackMagic Design was awarded the 2015 SBE Technology Award for its 12G-SDI. The Best Technical Article, Book or Program award went to Tom C. Smith of Sun Prairie, Wis., for his The Signal article, “Look at TV Repack Scenario.”
