REEDSBURG, Wisc.—Sound Devices has started shipping the A20-RX, a two channel, true diversity receiver with SpectraBand technology. 

SpectraBand gives the A20-RX receiver and A20-Mini transmitter an unprecedented tuning range of 470 MHz to 1525 MHz, the company said. 

The A20-RX also features high-discrimination front end filtering for better performance in noisy RF environments and Frequency AutoAssign for faster setup. The receiver is compatible with both A20-Mini and A10-TX transmitters, Sound Devices reported. 

Sound professionals with the previous model, A10-RX, can upgrade the hardware of their receivers to the A20-RX for $995 USD or for a reduced price of $750 if they purchased their A10-RX within the last 12 months or an A20-Mini since June 1st. The upgrade program lasts until the end of 2022.

“As wireless spectrum becomes increasingly crowded, sound professionals need flexibility when it comes to tuning range. The A20-RX is the first receiver on the market that can tune not only in common UHF TV bands around 470 – 608 MHz, but far above that,” said Gary Trenda, RF applications engineer at Sound Devices. “We’re excited to offer the A20-RX and an upgrade path for our A10-RX customers.” 

The company noted that SpectraBand eliminates the need for purchasing different wireless receivers dedicated to specific frequency bands, covering approximately 285 MHz of available spectrum in the United States and 383 MHz in the United Kingdom. 

In the U.S., the A20-RX can tune to the 600 MHz guard band (614-616 MHz), 600 MHz duplex gap (653-663 MHz), 900 MHz ISM Band (902-928MHz), 900 MHz STL Band (941.5-960 MHz), and, with the appropriate license, the 1.5 GHz AFTRCC band (1435-1525 MHz). This is in addition to the core USA UHF TV band from 470-608 MHz that’s commonly available. Overall, this totals approximately 285 MHz of available spectrum. 

In the UK, the A20-RX can tune to the 800 MHz duplex gap (823-832 MHz), 800 MHz guard band (863-865 MHz), and, with a proper license, the DME and 1.5 GHz bands (961-1015 MHz, 1045-1075 MHz, 1105-1154 MHz, 1518-1525 MHz). This is in addition to the core UK UHF TV band from 470-702 MHz that’s commonly available. Overall, this totals approximately 383 MHz.

The A20-RX is the second product in Sound Devices’ first wireless product line. The first product, the A20-Mini transmitter, is receiving a free firmware upgrade to enable SpectraBand when used with the A20-RX. The A20-RX is also compatible with all tuning ranges of the full-size A10-TX and is SuperSlot compatible with an SL-2 SuperSlot Wireless Module and 8-Series mixer-recorder.

Two other notable features of the A20-RX are its front-end filtering and Frequency AutoAssign. 

While tracking filters are common in wireless receivers, the A20-RX uses superior low-loss, brick-wall SAW filters to deliver excellent performance in noisy RF environments. These built-in filters also provide excellent immunity from nearby IFB or camera hop transmitters without the need for external filters or extra cabling. 

The AutoAssign feature scans a user-designated tuning band and selects available frequencies for the A20-RX's two channels. This feature is designed to make frequency selection and setting quick and easy. 

The release of the A20-RX coincides with supporting firmware for the A20-Mini, A10-TX, 8-Series, SD-Utility and A20-Remote.

EAST LANSING, Mich.—Apollo PublicTV Platform continues to rollout technology that is geared toward helping with the transition to the ATSC 3.0 standard, announcing it will be releasing an Android-based, fully compliant NextGen TV suite of receiver devices for the B2B and B2C markets. These are expected to be the first consumer “gateway” ATSC 3.0 devices on the market.

The NextGen TV receiver is designed to operate over both ATSC 1.0 and ATSC 3.0 transmission using a modular tuner approach. The receivers support all major 3.0 next-generation capabilities, including dynamic ad insertion, interactivity, NRT, Receiver and Broadcast ap, AEA, DRM and A/344.

The receivers employ USB based plug-n-play tuners and can have either a 1.0 tuner, a 3.0 tuner or both tuners. This setup will allow for users to receive 3.0 services inside 1.0 transmission by utilizing Apollo PublicTV’s three-in-one solution.

Apollo Public TV expects the release of these receivers to help accelerate 3.0 adoption because of three key factors. First, with the three-in-one technology broadcasters can start providing 3.0 services inside 1.0 transmissions; second, the receiver has a hybrid and modular design that will help reduce costs of the transition as the receiver can work in both 1.0 and 3.0; and lastly, it allows broadcasters to create carrier grade services to test market demand and inform their communities.

ESL wanted to move away from a rigid managed service model for traditional linear broadcasting and expand its internal distribution workflows for the web and, for the first time, take care of linear broadcasts internally.

ESL Director of Streaming, Steven Jalicy, said, “We wanted a solution that could dynamically scale and deliver high quality and high reliability without generating out of control service costs and technology bottlenecks. Furthermore, we wanted the future capacity and potential to merge our online and linear workflows into a single ecosystem.

“To achieve this, we needed a hardware system that was protocol and service agnostic. Something we could build into our own infrastructure and workflows to deliver traditional linear content to traditional linear takers, but deploy it using the same concepts that have been so successful for ESL when it comes to delivering content to our core audience on online platforms. Intinor’s solution for ESL was to use a combination of Direkt router, Direkt router lite, and Direkt receiver units. The receiver units enable ESL’s takers to receive content via IP transport, which then breaks out to an SDI output that conforms to the respective traditional broadcast standards required. The routers enable ESL to contribute and distribute content from live events directly to takers worldwide and are the backbone of the deployment as they handle SDI source inputs onsite; perform live video encoding; process IP contributions; and ensure content distribution across the vast ESL network.

With the Direkt system, ESL can now directly manage and operate its own linear content distribution network without an expensive managed service, and without investing in the traditional infrastructure and hardware that would normally be required for linear content delivery.

IBC 2019, 13-17 September, Hall 10 Stand C25: DTC Broadcast will feature its entire wireless AEON transmitter range, including the acclaimed AEON Lite transmitter and the PRORXD-AEON receiver, all at a new location during IBC 2019 in Amsterdam from 13–17 September.

DTC Broadcast has relocated to Hall 10 this year to ensure the highest visibility for its AEON transmitter range as well as the latest developments for other new DTC Broadcast products.

Lagardère Sports needed a more cost-effective way to provide contributions from its global coverage of the ATP Tour 250 series.

The ATP Tour 250 is a series of men’s tennis tournaments that are a part of the Association of Professional Tennis Players (ATP) calendar. Lagardère Sports required an ecosystem that would remain reliable and robust whether the tennis was being played in France, Brazil or Australia.

The solution in this case was Intinor’s Direkt link encoders, which include Intinor’s proprietary Bifrost Reliable Transport (BRT™), which are used to secure a stable connection to Lagardère’s master control room regardless of where in the world an ATP World Tour 250 event was held.

The combination of Direkt encoder BRT stream protocol provided Lagardère with a high-quality, fully redundant stream.

Intinor’s Direkt router is used by major broadcast and production companies for video switching and mixing on the fly, and with the new router panel and video mixer combination the unit can provide GFX-overlays and PiP.

Direkt link can send video streams to multiple receivers, including Intinor’s own receivers, designed primarily for cable TV or channel control rooms; streaming servers for web TV; DTV boxes for OTT; PCs running VLC; and receivers from other manufactures.

VALENCIA, CALIF.—Troll Systems recently debuted its DMR series of receivers that combines a multi-channel microwave receiver with a remote site diversity antenna controller. DMR provides a two to eight channel diversity receiver for remote ENG or law enforcement antenna sites, with the DMR processor able to perform video decryption, encryption, video and audio decoding for local monitoring and secure IP transport to remote control centers.

DMR features a front panel touchscreen for live video and audio preview, control and monitoring of antennas, transmission, test and signal diagnostics. It can also view video locally via HDMI, Ethernet or composite. DMR receivers incorporate Maximum-Ratio Combining and packet switching to “knit together” signals from different antenna panels for 360-degree coverage.

DMR6000 receivers can be daisy chained together to receive multiple RF signal sources on different channels simultaneously. The DMR6000 also interfaces directly to all Troll Systems antennas.

DMR receivers operate on a Linux system by also feature an Ethernet compatible platform for delivering encrypted HD video and data over IP.

RIO RANCHO, N.M.—Lectrosonics has debuted its two new Digital Hybrid Wireless dual-channel diversity “slot” receivers, the SRc and SRc5P. Both receivers are designed for RF environments and come with Smart Tuning and SuperSlot compatibility.

The SRc and SRc5P units consist of two receivers built into a single, compact housing, and feature optional adaptors for video camera receiver slots and for standalone use. The two internal receivers can be operated separately, each using switching, antenna combining diversity, or in tandem with ratio diversity reception, according to Lectrosonics. The audio inputs can be either mixed internally or left separated for recording tracks or external mixing. The 5P version also allows dual channel operation for cameras with just a single audio channel slot.

Each unit features a wide tuning range of three standard Lectrosonics blocks or 76 MHz. Tuning steps of 100 kHz or 25 kHz allow for up to 3072 frequencies per band. Tracking front-end filters provide out-of-band rejection of RF noise. The receivers can be compatible with other Lectrosonics systems and other third-party wireless systems.

The SmarTune feature selects frequencies based on local scan data. Four frequency ranges are available: A1 (470-537 MHz), B1 (537-614 MHz), B2 (563-640 MHz) and C1 (614-691 MHz).

The SRc and SRc5P receivers are scheduled to be released in the second quarter of 2016. SRc will be priced at $3,080., while SRc5P will be available for $3,280.
