                                <p><strong>MINNEAPOLIS</strong>—I first founded Curling Stadium, a systems integration firm specializing in deploying livestreaming systems in curling arenas using PTZ cameras and NDI connectivity technology, in 2019. Combining my 25 years of IT experience with my background as an Olympic curler, we installed and managed systems in 23 curling clubs around the world. </p><p>Those deployments captured the attention of organizations, including USA Curling and international governing body World Curling. We started getting requests to provide full broadcast production services for major curling events, leading us to evolve into <a href="https://www.tvtechnology.com/production/live-production/telycam-ptz-cameras-support-production-of-u-s-curling-trials">Stadium Sports Network</a>, the full-service production company we are today.</p><p><strong>Curling Challenges</strong><br>We had used a variety of PTZ camera brands over the years, ranging from budget-oriented brands for small clubs to the premium high-end models we rented for larger productions. With our productions for World Curling destined for linear television anywhere in the world, we knew we needed to upgrade our cameras to achieve higher quality while remaining cost-competitive. A tipping point came when we were contracted to produce broadcasts of the U.S. Olympic Curling Trials in South Dakota last November for NBC Sports and Peacock. </p><p>Shooting curling involves some unique challenges. For example, when we’re tilting a camera down at the ice, we’re getting a lot of bright white that blows out the exposure on most of the other cameras we’ve used. The lighting also varies a lot between events depending on the venues—from dimly lit older curling clubs to bright, modern arenas—so we needed cameras with at least a 1-inch sensor as well as exceptional exposure handling. </p><p>One of our partner companies recommended we check out <a href="https://www.tvtechnology.com/production/telycam-expands-broadcast-ptz-camera-lineup">Telycam PTZ cameras</a>, and I’m glad we did. After testing their broadcast-class Explore XE model, we purchased three of them. </p><p>In our typical workflow, the Telycam cameras output NDI HX3 streams that are delivered to the production center over a 10 Gbps Ubiquiti network. Switching is done on a computer running vMix software, with Singular Live powering HTML5 graphics and a Behringer X32 audio mixing console. </p><p>We use AVKANS controllers for PTZ camera control. Telycam makes its own controllers, but the Telycam cameras support the standard VISCA control protocol and we already owned many AVKANS controllers, so we stuck with them.</p><p>The Telycam PTZ cameras have been outstanding, and we couldn’t be happier with the results. When I compare them to other manufacturers we’ve used, aspects like color shading and autofocus have been standouts, and the autoexposure has been amazing in overcoming the above challenges.</p><p>In fact, we had rented high-end cameras from a big broadcast brand for a previous project, but we found that Telycam’s autoexposure and focus management blew the more expensive cameras out of the water. The Explore XE gives us superior quality and at its price point, we can buy the cameras rather than renting them. The value we’re getting from them allows us to be competitive at the high end of our market.</p><p><strong>PTZ Creativity</strong><br>Curling is also fairly repetitive compared to other sports, so the shots are almost always the same. We need to be more creative with how we mix in shots with zoom, and the Telycam cameras’ responsiveness with different presets has been valuable. </p><p>Most importantly, our broadcast clients have also been happy with the results. We previously heard from skeptics that PTZ cameras couldn’t achieve this level of production quality, but I believe that’s been proven not to be true.</p><p>Telycam has also been great to work with. The demo and sales process was smooth and their technical support has been excellent. During one project, we found that we needed a different firmware package, and within an hour, they had responded and new firmware was running on the camera.</p><p>We plan to expand to produce multiple broadcasts at the same time, so we’ll be investing in more cameras.                                 <p><strong>DOWNINGTOWN, Pa.—</strong>PTZOptics and LayerJot will demonstrate how prompt-based AI, robotic camera control, and high-performance computing can work together to identify, follow, and respond to objects and events in real time at InfoComm 2026, June 13-19 in Las Vegas.</p><p>The demonstrations, which run on Intel Core Ultra Series 3 processors, combine LayerJot’s purpose-built AI software application with PTZOptics’ SimplTrack3 cameras, featuring advanced auto-tracking capabilities.                                 <p><strong>KEIZER, Ore.</strong>—Municipal broadcaster<strong> </strong><a href="https://keizertv.com/">Keizer City Television</a>, K23 TV, has deployed four <a href="https://www.tvtechnology.com/equipment/telycam-to-showcase-new-broadcast-ptz-camera-at-2025-nab-show">Telycam</a> <a href="https://www.tvtechnology.com/tag/ptz-cameras">PTZ cameras</a> to upgrade the visual quality of its live meeting coverage.</p><p>The government access broadcaster plays an important role in connecting Keizer officials with citizens. Broadcasting and streaming from council chambers in the Keizer City Hall, the channel, operated by Ambition Pictures, provides live coverage of city council and other municipal activities, including planning commission, transportation and parks advisory board sessions.</p><p>This past summer, the broadcaster set out to replace and improve its aging, first-generation NDI PTZ cameras. </p><p>“At KeizerTV, we do our best to maintain a high level of production for everything we do, to give our viewers an optimal experience,” KeizerTV Producer Phillip Wade said. “Our existing cameras were starting to have issues, such as focus drift, but we also wanted to improve our overall quality to meet our high standards.”</p><p>Wade’s quality goals included increasing the visual fidelity captured by the cameras. “The resolution of our existing cameras was 1920x1080 HD, but we wanted better color reproduction, exposure and sharpness,” he said. “Being able to get better color and exposure in our council chambers improves the overall production quality.”</p><p>The broadcaster also wanted to increase the number of cameras deployed to enable more comprehensive coverage and to have a greater optical zoom range to allow better close-ups across the council chamber space.</p><figure class="van-image-figure  inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:1024px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:69.34%;"><img id="NVzamaoyHJeggc9cA3i2oL" name="Telycam_Cameras_at_KeizerTV_1" alt="Telycam cameras in Keizer, Ore., city council chambers" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/NVzamaoyHJeggc9cA3i2oL.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="1024" height="710" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="caption-text">Telycam PTZ cameras mounted in the Keizer, Ore., city council chambers.  </span><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: KeizerTV)</span></figcaption></figure><p>Systems integrator Mid-Valley Media recommended Wade evaluate Telycam’s Vision+ N3 cameras with 30x optical zoom. He found the camera delivered the performance K23 TV was seeking. The city purchased and deployed four of the cameras, which went live in August.</p><p>At the front of the city council chambers, up to seven meeting participants are seated at a forward-facing, curved dais. Smaller offshoots on each side seat additional participants. Two Telycam cameras at the back of the room capture close-up and wide shots of those on the main dais, while the other two cameras are positioned at the sides of the room to capture people seated on the offshoot wings. The side cameras also cover the area where members of the public present or speak during city meetings.</p><p>The cameras are connected to a <a href="https://www.tvtechnology.com/equipment/vizrt-adds-new-flagship-entry-level-solutions-to-tricaster-lineup">Vizrt TriCaster</a> TC1 Pro production switcher in an IP-based workflow using NDI HX3 connectivity. In addition to being broadcast on television via Comcast, the output of the TriCaster is also streamed live on the city’s Facebook and YouTube channels in both English and Spanish. The Spanish streams are created by sending the NDI feed of the TriCaster’s program output to another room where it is translated by interpreters. It was awkward, which delayed getting the subject into frame.”</p><p>Wade added a Telycam V-Joy+ AT controller to the installation. “It’s important for us to be able to quickly select a camera and move it, and the Telycam controller lets us do that efficiently,” he said.</p><p>The Vision+ N3 cameras have met the broadcaster’s objectives and expectations. “We’re very happy with the quality of the video they produce,” Wade said. “I also appreciate being able to manually set the aperture of the camera. That gives us some control of the depth of field, which makes the footage look and feel higher-end.”</p><p>Wade also praised the speed and precision of the Telycam cameras’ autofocusing. “The cameras adjust very quickly,” he said. “When I move the camera position, it’s already in focus by the time I’m ready to cut to that camera.”</p><p>More information is available on the Telycam <a href="https://www.telycam.com/">website</a>.</p>

                                <p><strong>MELVILLE, N.Y.</strong>—Canon USA has launched the CR-N400 and CR-N350, two new <a href="https://www.tvtechnology.com/tag/ptz-cameras">Pan-Tilt-Zoom (PTZ) cameras</a> designed to deliver high image quality, versatile connectivity and advanced control for professional video applications.</p><p>The cameras cater to an array of studio productions, <a href="https://www.tvtechnology.com/features/live-events-gets-bigger-bolder-and-smarter">live events</a>, houses of worship, corporate settings and educational environments, the company said.</p><p>The CR-N400 and CR-N350 address the need of users to access advanced functionality and streamline workflows. Designed to fill the space in Canon’s PTZ lineup between the CR-N300 and the CR-N500, the new cameras provide smooth on-air pan/tilt performance and high-quality imaging for a broader range of users, Canon said.</p><p>Both cameras offer 4K 60p imaging with a 20 times optical zoom, extendable to 40 times advanced zoom in Full HD. Their 1/2.3-inch CMOS sensor and the DIGIC DV7 image processor provide outstanding image quality and Canon’s color science. Both cameras include a vertical crop feature that allows users to simultaneously output a 9:16 crop of the full image, it said.</p><p>The CR-N400 is tailored for professional broadcasters who require a 4K SDI-based workflow, as it features 12G-SDI and 3G-SDI connectivity, genlock and timecode support for seamless integration into professional multicamera setups, Canon said.</p><p>The CR-N350 provides a cost-effective solution for users who only require 4K over HDMI/IP or Full HD over its 3G-SDI terminal. With the increasing adoption of IP protocols, such as NDI and SRT, both the CR-N400 and CR-N350 provide a versatile solution for direct IP streaming and remote production workflows, the company said.</p><p>With these features, the CR-N400 and CR-N350 are well suited to both live and recorded productions, offering operators the ability to capture dynamic content effortlessly while maintaining a competitive edge in fast-paced settings, Canon said.</p><p>The CR-N400 and CR-N350 PTZ cameras are scheduled to ship in late December for an estimated retail price of $5,699 and $3,999, respectively. </p><p>More information is available on the company’s <a href="http://www.usa.canon.com/">website</a>.</p>

The AK-UCX100 supports strong image quality right out of the box. The cameras are ideal for large event spaces and instances when the need to zoom in from a distance is essential. The cameras feature JVC’s 4K imager and renowned Variable Scan Mapping technology, which dynamically scans the 4K sensor to produce a seamless and lossless image transition up to 40x in full-resolution HD. Increasing the zoom magnification while keeping the unit affordable made it possible for JVC to accommodate the needs of a larger segment of customers, the company reported. </p><p>Complementing the KY-PZ540 model is the KY-PZ510 PTZ series, which is most recognized for its super-wide horizontal angle of view (80 degrees) and focal length of 21.8 to 261.8 millimeters. The KY-PZ540 and KY-PZ510 PTZ award-recognized cameras include AI-enabled advanced SMART auto-tracking operations. This feature can follow one person or one of multiple people within its field of view and includes its latest advancements in: Standard, Area, Stage, Wide Area and Fine Adjustment modes. These modes provide additional controls and adjustment options allowing for flexible and precise operations. Both series are available in black or white models and host non-NDI and NDI supported IP-based remote operation capabilities, JVC said. </p><p>With the NDI-enabled KY-PZ540N and KY-PZ510N, users have the added ability to utilize NDI HX3 for the highest quality video with reduced latency, at a fraction of the bandwidth of full NDI. The NDI HX3 capability also enables integrators to take advantage of the cameras’ award-winning features, such as the KY-PZ510N’s super-wide horizontal angle of view (80 degrees) and focal length of 21.8 to 261.8 millimeters. </p><p>Additionally, the incorporated Vertical Interval Time Code (VITC) with Network Time Protocol (NTP) provides the cameras with multi-camera synchronization for seamless live event production. Using the latest HEVC technology, the cameras ensure higher quality video at lower bitrates for remote production over the internet (REMI). The cameras also support H.264 and H.265/HEVC encoding, offering increased compatibility with a variety of hardware and software applications. Furthermore, the 4K60p output, via both HDMI and streaming, delivers ultra-clear, natural imagery in settings with a lot of movement, such as sports and live events.</p><p>Comprised of both the KM-IP12S8 and KM-IP12S8PRO, the KM-IP12S8 Series Connected Cam vMix Studio Switchers are complete live video production solutions that provide live mixing, switching, recording and streaming for a variety of multi-camera, fast-paced applications, JVC explained. </p><p>The KM-IP12S8 includes the vMix 4K license and supports up to 12 NDI/SRT and eight SDI video inputs, as well as multiple output options, including 12G-SDI, 3G-SDI, HDMI, DisplayPort and up to four live 3840x2160 60p inputs via 12G-SDI/NDI. Additionally, three 2.5 GbE Ethernet ports are available for NDI, SRT, Dante and RTMPS internet connectivity. The switcher also offers concurrent outputs to three CDNs, Multiview and ISO recording, all in a quiet 4RU case with liquid cooling. The KM-IP12S8PRO has the same hardware specifications, with the addition of the vMix Pro software license, which enables eight-channel instant replay.</p><p>The switchers’ front dock has four removable SSD drive trays and USB 3.0 Gen.2 ports for digital audio and control surfaces.                                 <p><strong>LAS VEGAS</strong>—JVC Professional Video has announced that it will debut its new KY-PZ540 Series PTZ Cameras with 40x zoom at <a href="https://nabshow.com/2024/" target="_blank">2024 NAB Show</a> (Booth C4720). </p><p>As the company’s first PTZ cameras to incorporate this focal depth, the KY-PZ540 and KY-PZ540N with integrated NDI HX3 capabilities are designed with JVC’s 4K imager. The cameras also feature JVC’s Variable Scan Mapping technology, which dynamically scans the 4K sensor to produce a seamless and lossless image transition up to 40x in full-resolution HD. The cameras are ideal for large event spaces and instances when the need to zoom in from a distance is essential. </p><p>“We asked our key customers what feature was most in demand and their request was for a PTZ camera capable of 40x zoom in 1080/60p mode at an affordable price point,” says Joe D’Amico, vice president of JVC Professional Video. “We already have an award-winning PTZ product—increasing the zoom magnification while keeping the unit affordable made it possible for us to accommodate the needs of a larger segment of customers.”  </p><p>With JVC KY-PZ510 technology at its core, the new KY-PZ540 PTZ cameras incorporate the brand’s award-winning features, such as AI-enabled advanced SMART auto-tracking operation and NDI supported IP-based remote operation capabilities.</p><p>JVC recently expanded its auto-tracking to include five new advanced features: Standard, Area, Stage, Wide Area and Fine Adjustment modes. This ensures higher quality video at lower bitrates for remote production over the internet (REMI).                                 <p><strong>WAYNE, N.J.</strong>—JVC Professional Video has released Firmware Version 3 for its KY-PZ510 and KY-PZ510N Connected Cam PTZ Cameras that will be shown at 2024 NAB Show (booth C4720). </p><p>With this latest free update, users now have access to five different settings of Auto Tracking, including Standard, Area, Stage, Wide Area and Fine Adjustment options. The new firmware will also make it possible for users to set presets for exposure, color and image, among others ― a feature that is being released across all NDI®-enabled JVC PTZ cameras, JVC said. </p><p>“The enhanced auto tracking functionality of our award-winning KY-PZ510 Series PTZ cameras is designed to follow one person and can be used to select one of multiple people within its field of view ― such as an instructor, pastor or a specific individual,” says Joseph D’Amico, vice president, JVC Professional Video. “This latest firmware update aims to further enhance the creative possibilities set forth by these features, which are ideal for classrooms, corporate settings and houses of worship, among other applications. We look forward to presenting this latest solution to NAB 2024 attendees.”</p><p>With these latest features, users will be able to use the ‘Standard’ setting to set the designated position of the tracking system, adjust the headroom or indicate subject framing options, such as upper body or above the chest. The ‘vertical’ alignment setting will also enable users to adjust the amount of space above the presenter. Additionally, the new ‘Area’ setting is intended for users to designate an area from within the field of view in which the camera will stay stationary unless the speaker has left that space. Multiple spaces can be set for this function, the company reported. </p><p>The ‘Stage’ setting establishes the left and right panning borders of the KY-PZ510 Series cameras, while ‘Wide Area’ sets stationary camera positioning concentrated towards the center of the stage. This provides minimal motion distraction while ‘Standard’ auto tracking is engaged, should the subject travel beyond the outer borders. The new firmware includes a ‘Fine Adjustment’ mode, in which the camera adjusts the framing of the subject to the preset position within a maximum six-second time span, JVC said. </p><p>A free firmware update is also available for the JVC RM-LP100 Remote Camera Controller and web interface, which can now be used to send auto-tracking commands for the cameras via WEB API. Additionally, while in auto tracking mode, the controller can be used to select an individual or set tracking ON/OFF, using the simple left/right lever on the device.</p><p>The award-winning features of the KY-PZ510 Series include a super-wide horizontal angle of view (80 degrees) and focal length of 21.8 to 261.8 millimeters, along with incorporated Vertical Interval Time Code (VITC) with Network Time Protocol (NTP) for multi-camera synchronization. Using the latest HEVC technology, the cameras ensure higher quality video at lower bitrates for remote production over the internet (REMI). The KY-PZ510N can also simultaneously output NDI®, SRT and RTMPS for hybrid local/remote workflows to deliver the highest quality distribution to the world’s most popular CDNs.</p><p>With the new firmware updates, JVC has also released new preset options for exposure, color, image and PTZ settings.                                 <p><strong>NEW YORK</strong>—Broadcast Management Group (BMG) has added a variety of JVC Professional Video ultra-wide-angle, streaming and pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) cameras to assist its clients with their productions.</p><p>“Our account rep at JVC was very effective at communicating the value of the brand’s PTZ cameras and offered to come out to BMG’s Cloud Control Production Center™ in Las Vegas for a demonstration,” said BMG founder and CEO Todd Mason. “We all walked out convinced that JVC was our best option.” </p><p>Shortly after the visit, BMG purchased JVC KY-PZ510BU ultra-wide-angle, KY-PZ200BU streaming and KY-PZ100BU PTZ cameras, as well as RM-LP100U and RM-LP5G remote camera controllers. It has installed several of these cameras at the facilities of various clients and used the cameras and controllers in the production of live sporting events, JVC said.</p><p>BMG regularly positions JVC PTZ in the announcer booth at sporting events for use as commentator cameras throughout games televised by ESPN and CBS. The setup is equally well-suited to remote production workflows and those done in traditional production trucks on site deployed from BMG’s East and West Coast hubs, it said.</p><p>One particularly useful feature of the PTZ cameras is their ability to be remotely operated. “While we usually need to have six to 10 manned cameras covering the actual game itself, for the commentators we can use two or three PTZs with a remote operator, which is extremely helpful,” said Mason.  </p><p>The advanced streaming capabilities of the cameras include Secure, Reliable Transport (SRT) protocol support, which translates into cost savings for BMG. “With all our other cameras, the feeds are coming through encoders back to BMG’s Cloud Control Center, and those encoders are very expensive,” he said. “Our shows keep getting bigger and bigger, which means increasingly more encoders and decoders are needed. Having SRT directly out of the PTZ camera is just another big way to cut costs. It essentially frees up channels and saves us from tying up primary encoders.”</p><p>The cameras and controllers are also playing an important role in client-owned studios, such as at the Schwab Network where JVC PTZs serve as an option for different news and entertainment productions, JVC said.</p><p>BMG has deployed a JVC camera on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange for Schwab. It is used for bump shots coming in and out of shows on the NYSE floor. BMG relies on the SRT functionality for remote camera control and to feed video to the show’s control room in Chicago, it said.</p><p>The company typically has used two larger, traditional JVC RM-LP100Us controllers and has recently expanded to using the new JVC RM-LP5G compact joystick controller as well. “We first saw that controller at NAB and thought it was smart.                                 <p><strong>MONT-SAINT-GUIBERT, Belgium</strong>—intoPIX, a leading provider of lightweight low-latency compression solutions, has announced a partnership with Panasonic Connect that will integrate intoPIX’s JPEG XS technology in Panasonic’s PTZ and studio cameras.</p><p>Panasonic Connect made the strategic move to JPEG XS technology by adopting the intoPIX TicoXS IP cores, which will allow their camera line-up to interface directly with live production workflows supporting SMPTE ST 2110 and IPMX standards, the companies explained. </p><p>Panasonic Connect recently launched its new flagship AW-UE160W/K PTZ camera and its new AK-PLV100GSJ 4K studio camera, both of which will support JPEG XS. </p><p>With its high sensitivity capability of F14/2,000 lx which is equivalent to that of a studio camera, the AW-UE160W/K can be used together with studio cameras to add more flexibility to video content production. Equipped with a large format, super 35mm imager, and PL lens mount, the AK-PLV100GSJ offers a shallow-depth look that enhances creativity in broadcasting and streaming events.</p><p>Using JPEG XS safeguards all advantages of an uncompressed stream such as ultra-low latency and high quality and offers a significant bandwidth reduction with real-time FPGA, CPU, or GPU-based encoding in HD, and 4K, the companies explained. </p><p>Moreover, it can be used in any LAN, WAN, or cloud-based IP-based application which is sensitive to low latency and high quality. Powered by the shooting feature set of the AW-UE160W/K and the AK-PLV100GSJ, this provides an ideal IP video production workflow for applications such as live TV production and live events, they said. </p><p>“We are excited to partner with intoPIX experts to deliver a premium IP workflow to our customers.                                 <p>WAYNE, N.J.—JVC Professional Video has announced that it will be adding NDI|HX3 to its award-winning KY-PZ510N PTZ Connected Cam Cameras via a new free firmware update.</p><p>With the new firmware, which will be available by the end of March, users can select NDI|HX3 for the highest quality video with reduced latency, using a fraction of the bandwidth of full NDI.</p><p>The company will spotlight this feature within its KY-PZ510N camera at the 2023 NAB Show (Booth C4218).</p><p>“The addition of the NDI|HX3 option for our PTZ cameras with NDI® capabilities will provide users with a greater level of flexibility without the need to replace their hardware,” says Joseph D’Amico, vice president, JVCKENWOOD USA Corporation. “According to Vizrt, media organizations’ adoption of NDI-enabled devices is growing at a record pace, and we are thrilled to be part of the network of manufacturers to offer this solution. Our inclusion of a variety of NDI® codecs to our customers means they also have even more workflow options available to them.”</p><p>The new NDI|HX3 capability enables integrators to take advantage of the KY-PZ510N’s award-winning features, such as its super-wide horizontal angle of view (80 degrees) and focal length of 21.8 to 261.8 millimeters.</p><p>These features make the KY-PZ510N ideal for live-action events, studios, classrooms, corporate settings, event facilities, sports venues and houses of worship, JVC reported. The cameras also include enhanced SMART auto-tracking that follows one person and can be used to select one of multiple people within its field of view―such as an instructor, pastor or specific individual. Additionally, the incorporated Vertical Interval Time Code (VITC) with Network Time Protocol (NTP) provides the cameras with multi-camera synchronization for seamless live event production.</p><p>Using the latest HEVC technology, the cameras ensure higher quality video at lower bitrates for remote production over the internet (REMI). The cameras also support H.264 and H.265/HEVC encoding, offering increased compatibility with a variety of hardware and software applications. Furthermore, the 4K60p output, via both HDMI and streaming, delivers ultra-clear, natural imagery in settings with a lot of movement, such as sports and live events, the company said.</p><p>Part of the KY-PZ510 Series of cameras, the KY-PZ510N PTZs feature 4K60P HEVC Secure Reliable Transport (SRT) streaming, which is resilient to bandwidth fluctuations, data loss, and intermittent connectivity, to ensure secure and error-free video delivery over the internet. The cameras also have UVC (USB Video Class) implementation through the USB-C interface, for ubiquitous webcam applications and integration.                                 <p><strong>LAS VEGAS</strong>—Marshall Electronics, a leading manufacturer of broadcast and proAV cameras and equipment, has announced that it will showcase its CV730-BHN with Full-NDI and CV730-ND3 with NDI|HX3 technology at the 2023 NAB Show in the Central Hall on Booth C5520. </p><p>These new cameras are designed to accommodate broadcast production facilities looking to produce high-impact content with less staff on-site and sometimes limited IP bandwidth, the company reported. </p><p>The CV730-BHN Full-NDI PTZ camera incorporates the premium Full NDI FPGA while also offering the benefits of NDI|HX3 and standard IP (HEVC/SRT) streams. The CV730-ND3 PTZ camera utilizes the new NDI|HX3 platform and standard IP (HEVC/SRT). </p><p>The CV730-BHN features a premium Sony 4K sensor with 9.2 million pixels and back-lit square pixel technology designed behind a long 30x optical zoom range (6.5~ 202mm). It also has support of BT.2020 color gamut for wide and precise color reproduction suitable for high-end productions. </p><p>The CV730-BHN has streaming options of Full-NDI, NDI|HX3 and standard IP (HEVC/SRT), while also offering two simultaneous SDI (BNC) outputs 12GSDI + 3GSDI with genlock sync, as well as HDMI and USB3.0 options when the application demands it. High Bandwidth NDI requires higher network bandwidth but in return delivers lowest latency video possible nearing the quickness of traditional SDI, while maintaining premium quality and lossless video performance, the company said. </p><p>The CV730-ND3 features a similar Sony 4K sensor with 9.2 million pixels and back-lit square pixel technology designed behind same 30x optical zoom range (6.5~ 202mm). The CV730-ND3 features the new NDI|HX3 premium video codec, and standard IP (HEVC) encoding with SRT, while also offering 12GSDI, HDMI and USB3.0 outputs. The new NDI|HX3 format requires slightly higher bandwidth than previous NDI|HX but much less than is required for Full-NDI. NDI|HX3 delivers similar low latency as Full-NDI at less than 100ms end-to-end and has video quality performance closer to premium Full-NDI quality. NDI|HX3 is a big step forward for NDI|HX while reducing the bandwidth requirements of Full-NDI and delivering similar speeds and video quality, Marshall reported. </p><p>“Low latency and lossless video compression are big talking points for broadcasters over the past several years, and we are happy to bring these two new PTZ cameras to market,” says Tod Musgrave, director of cameras for Marshall Electronics. “As one of the first adopters of NDI|HX back in 2018, we’re very excited to refresh all of the NDI|HX models to the new HX3 codecs and launch our first Full-NDI model.”</p><p>All CV730’s now support a Smart Auto-Focus feature utilizing AI chipsets to target facial features and optimize focus on facial details which improves over time. Marshall PTZ cameras boast a flexible and smooth 340° horizontal pan range with 120° vertical tilt with speed adjustments from slow to fast depending on speed to setup the next shot. This provides a wide range of movement options to content creators when capturing high-quality UHD or HD video. Both cameras are feature rich and fit into a wide range of broadcast and proAV applications requiring low latency streaming with various bandwidth networks. Also included is a PoE++ option for one-cable to camera from PoE switch setup for video, audio, control, power and tally.                                 <p><strong>PARAMUS, N.J.</strong>—Sony has announced the SRG-A40 and SRG-A12, two new 4K pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) cameras with built in artificial intelligence analytics.</p><p>Both models automatically and consistently track and naturally frame presenters regardless of their movement or posture, enabling seamless control and content creation without the need for a computer to operate, the company said.</p><p>The auto-framing technology driving the PTZ cameras enables automatic operation for quick object tracking and rediscovery. Various auto-framing options are available. The cameras offer quality images with automation, the flexibility of IP, zoom, remote control and easy configuration and operation, it said.</p><p>“Our latest PTZ cameras truly represent a new generation,” said Sony Electronics vice president of professional display solutions Rich Ventura. “While they incorporate the image quality that is Sony’s bedrock, these efficient new models are even smarter than ever with the addition of built-in AI analytics, which enable PTZ Auto Framing, paired with the potential resulting from remote control.”</p><p>Noting that PTZ users have told Sony that how they capture content, including the locations where they work, has changed “drastically” over the past few years, he said.</p><p>“We listened and created a new user-friendly series that enables mounting freedom, prioritizes location-free operation and creates a streamlined workflow that empowers operators with varying degrees of expertise to create extremely professional content while keeping operating costs down.”</p><p>The cameras’ auto-framing technology also enables multiple angles to be framed, making simple well-framed close-ups, waists-ups and full-body image shots, it said.</p><p>Once powered on, the cameras begin to operate, searching for and rediscovering an object to track. Among the tracking technology used is facial recognition, which is capable of even detecting masked faces. A tally light is available to let presenters know which camera is active in a multi-camera setup, it said.</p><p>Both the SRG-A40 and SRG-A12 leverage a highly sensitive Exmor R CMOS imager for pickup of high-quality, naturally vivid images with less noise. They support 4K 30p and Full HD 60p, it said.</p><p>The SRG-A40 relies on Sony’s Clear Image Zoom technology that digitally doubles the optical zoom from 20x to 30x in 4K or 40x in Full HD. The SRG-A12 provides up to 12x zoom. With tele-convert mode, the SRG-A40 can extend up to 80x zoom, while the SRG-A12 can extend up to 24x. Day and night modes are available to optimize image capture in brightness and shadows, it said.</p><p>The cameras offer 3G-SDI, HDMI and IP connectivity (NDI|HX through optional license) and can be controlled remotely through VISCA/VISCA over IP, using a single network cable for power, output and control. It features a newly developed 4K 1” MOS sensor that offers the highest sensitivity of Panasonic Connect’s entire PTZ lineup so production teams shooting in a concert venue or a church can easily capture clear images even in the most challenging lighting conditions, the company said.  </p><p>In addition, the UE160’s new optical low pass filter reduces the effect of moiré for clearer picture quality when shooting against an LED wall, which is especially important for rental and staging or worship environments, Panasonic reported. </p><p>Its high-speed frame rate will also help sports broadcasters capture slow motion shots in HD for replays, while seamless integration with the robotic camera system brings live broadcast-style movements to the PTZ, resulting in a dynamic and highly engaging production.</p><p>AK-PLV100 35mm Cine Live Studio Camera is equipped with a large format, super 35mm Imager and PL Lens mount to accommodate cinema lenses for a shallow-depth look, Panasonic said.</p><p>The AK-PLV100 is a fully-enabled system camera, and is compatible with the AK-HCU250 and AK-UCU600 camera control units, making it a companion to existing B4 mount camera systems. To capture cinematic video, simply swap the existing camera head with the AK-PLV100, the company said. </p><p>The camera also leverages Panasonic Connect’s expertise in IP-based live production, the company said. </p><p>It outputs 12G-SDI signals from the camera head and can interface with return, control and other communications directly, or through ST 2110 when used without a CCU. For multicamera productions, the AK-PLV100 can also be used simultaneously with the AW-UE160 - which has the toolset to create a more unified look – to capture a variety of angles & shots for a more interesting & compelling production. With this combination of features, the AK-PLV100 gives media and entertainment professionals flexibility & control, that doesn’t sacrifice production quality, the company said. </p><p>To support production studios moving towards more connected, IP-based workflows, both cameras will feature SMPTE2110 compatibility (AW-UE160 users can activate this through the AW-SFU60 software key, sold separately).                                 <p><strong>AMSTERDAM</strong>—Mo-Sys Engineering has announced the launch of its new high-performance motorized rail, MoRail, which enables cost-effective creative pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) and ENG camera movement within newsroom environments. </p><p>The high-performance motorized MoRail system will be on display at <a href="https://show.ibc.org/"><u>IBC2022</u></a> from September 9 to 12.</p><p>MoSys said the system is primarily designed for use in newsrooms, which may include traditional studios, greenscreen, LED volume-based broadcast applications and corporate presentations. </p><p>MoRail supports all major PTZ and ENG camera systems weighing up to 15kg, transforming regular static shots into repeatable creative shots with controlled parallax movement.                                 <p><strong>TORRANCE, Calif.</strong>—Marshall Electronics will introduce the CV420e, its first digital PTZ (ePTZ) camera, at <a href="https://show.ibc.org/" target="_blank"><u>IBC 2022</u></a>, Sept. 9-12, at the RAI Amsterdam Convention Centre, the company said today.</p><p>Suitable for professional broadcast and professional AV applications, including pro sports events, reality TV, broadcast trucks, weather vehicles and a variety of AV installations, the new CV420e is well-suited for uses requiring ultra-high quality networkable video, Marshall Electronics said.</p><p>Using a 9.5 Megapixel 4K sensor capable of 4K UHD resolution up to 60fps, the CV420e relies on a 4.5mm wide lens with a field of view greater than 100 degrees for clear video with minimal distortion. The camera’s pan, tilt and zoom capabilities are offered with more than 250 presets that can be saved and selected from various command sources, including IR remote, video management software, web browser GUI, OBS plug-ins, vMix and a host of other compatible soft codecs and devices, the company said.</p><p>“Instead of a robotic movement, CV420e’s ePTZ functionality simulates pan, tilt and zoom operations digitally inside of a larger 4K resolution pixel space,” said Tod Musgrave, director of cameras at Marshall Electronics. “The CV420e will allow users to maintain access to wide angles along with useable digitally zoom and lateral maneuvers within the sensor. This gives our customers another option for capturing unique and creative content from a very compact camera body.”</p><p>The new camera measures 4.5 inches by 2.75 inches by 2 inches and has rear-protection wings to avoid unwanted cable disconnections. The CV420e has a 3.5mm audio input (line/mic) embedded on all available outputs and can be controlled via included remote control, Ethernet (IP) and/or USB.                                 <p><strong>TORRANCE, Calif.</strong>—Marshall Electronics, a leading manufacturer of broadcast and proAV cameras and equipment, has announced new features for its POV and PTZ camera models with accessory add-ons and easy field-upgradable firmware.</p><p>As part of the improvements, Marshall now offers three levels of Neutral-Density (ND) filters for its IP67-rated CV226 All-Weather Lipstick Camera and CV503-WP All-Weather Miniature HD Camera. </p><p>“We have been asked on many occasions about ND filters as many of our live production customers operate in direct sunlight and need to dampen its effects on video performance,” says Tod Musgrave, director of cameras for Marshall Electronics. “In addition to the ND filters, we have also added CGI and Free-D protocol support to our CV630 and CV730 PTZs, which enables two-way positioning communication between camera and control decks to produce more realistic VR and AR graphic overlay. Color Matrix is also now available for our Genlock cameras, providing deeper control of color to more closely color match other cameras in the broadcast production workflow.”</p><p>Free-D protocol support now comes standard on Marshall CV730 and CV630 models and is available for existing customers through a free firmware update. </p><p>Free-D protocol is an industry standard protocol, supported by major AR/VR solutions providers. Through this firmware update, the CV730 cameras will feed tracking data over IP back to command central, using Free-D communication. This enables the cameras to directly respond with pan, tilt, zoom, focus, iris and axis position in real time, making VR/AR production simple and cost effective without the addition of other tracking devices or systems.</p><p>Marshall also added Color Matrix to the CV566, CV568, CV366 and CV368 cameras. Color Matrix creates a more accurate color representation with master level, master phase, color level and color phase enhancements.                                 <p><strong>LAS VEGAS</strong>—Marshall Electronics has announced that it will introduce the CV730-BHN High-Bandwidth NDI PTZ Camera at the 2022 NAB Show.</p><p>This new 4K robotic PTZ camera contains traditional outputs including two simultaneous SDI (BNC) outputs with genlockable 12GSDI and 3GSDI, as well as HDMI and USB3.0 options at the ready, the company said. </p><p>CV730-BHN also features the ultra-fast and lossless High Bandwidth NDI streaming ability commonly known as Full-NDI, while offering the newly released NDI|HX3 that can deliver similar low-latency and superior quality video performance in slightly less bandwidth network infrastructure.</p><p>“We are thrilled to showcase our High-Bandwidth CV730-BHN NDI camera to NAB attendees,” says Tod Musgrave, director of cameras for Marshall Electronics. “This is significant not only because it provides the lowest possible latency FULL-NDI chipset with lossless video streams but also features the newly released NDI|HX3 video codec, which greatly enhances the NDI|HX performance in more challenging network infrastructures.”</p><p>Marshall announced that the CV730-BHN features a Sony 1/1.8” 4K sensor with 9 million pixels and square pixel array packed behind a long 30x optical zoom range (6.5~ 202mm). The CV730-BHN is Full-NDI compatible with streaming options of High-Bandwidth NDI, NDI|HX3 premium video codec, and standard IP (HEVC), while also offering 12GSDI, 3GSDI, HDMI, and USB3.0 outputs. It is feature rich and fits into a wide range of broadcast and proAV applications requiring low latency streaming with various bandwidth networks. Also included is PoE++ for one-cable to camera setup for video, audio, control, power and tally.</p><p>High Bandwidth NDI requires higher network bandwidth but in return delivers ultra-low latency video nearing the quickness of traditional SDI, while maintaining premium quality and lossless video performance, the company explained. The new NDI|HX3 requires slightly higher bandwidth than previous NDI|HX but much less than is required for High Bandwidth NDI. NDI|HX3 delivers similar low latency as High Bandwidth NDI at less than 100ms end-to-end and video quality performance closer to premium High Bandwidth NDI quality. </p><p>The Marshall CV730-BHN will incorporate the premium High Bandwidth NDI FPGA while offering the benefits of NDI|HX3 and standard IP (HEVC) streams. </p><p>Available in white and black, the CV-730-BHN cameras are scheduled to be available later this year. </p><p>Marshall also carries several NETGEAR M4250-series switches with NDI configuration built-in and ready for easy setup with Marshall NDI cameras.</p><p>Marshall will be showing the camera during the <a href="https://nabshow.com/2022/" target="_blank"><u>2022 NAB Show</u></a> between April 23 and 27 in Last Vegas at Booth C1307.                                 <p><strong>LAS VEGAS</strong>—JVC Professional Video will be featuring its Connected Cam remote production solutions at the 2022 NAB Show. </p><p>The solutions being shown for the first time include JVC’s new KY-PZ400N 4K PTZ and KY-PZ200/N HD PTZ cameras, along with the popular GY-HC500 4K handheld camcorder and GY-HC900 2/3-inch ENG/studio camera. </p><p>JVC general manager of engineering Edgar Shane will showcase these solutions at JVC’s exclusive NAB suite in the Wynn Hotel – Fairway Villa, where he will also provide on-site remote production demonstrations, the company said. </p><p>“After a much-anticipated three years, we are excited to once again join our industry colleagues at the NAB Show,” said Shane. “We look forward to showcasing our latest cameras, including our PTZ, 500 Series and 900 Series Connected Cams. Ideal for sports, concerts, and other live event productions, these cameras provide new creative streaming possibilities for the ever-evolving remote media landscape. </p><p>All models integrate SRT video transport featuring enhanced error correction resilient to internet congestion, packet loss and high jitter, the company explained.</p><p>State-of-the-art HEVC encoding maintains SDI video quality while sending video over the internet at reduced data rates. Each stream includes Vertical Integral Timecode (VITC) synchronized to Network Time Protocol (NTP) for remote, multi-camera synchronization in a live production.</p><p>The KY-PZ200N and KY-PZ200 also support UVC (USB Video Class), which enables the cameras to be used as webcams for more reserved remote conferences and lectures. Both models can be directly connected to a PC using a USB 3.0 cable, allowing them to operate smoothly for a range of digital applications, the company said. </p><p>Thanks to integrated NDI|HX technology from the Vizrt Group, the 4K KY-PZ400NW/NB and HD KY-PZ200NW/NB Connected Cam PTZ cameras offer plug-and-play compatibility with Newtek TriCaster, vMix, and an ever-growing list of applications that support NDI, such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and many others.</p><p>In addition to the PTZs, JVC is also showcasing its renowned Connected Cam camcorders ― the GY-HC900 and GY-HC500. Both offer integrated SRT encoders, as well as a variety of on-board recording capabilities, such as 10-bit 4:2:2 H.264 and ProRes, HDR imaging and remote-control functionality. Built-in recording features include dual memory card slots for standard SDHX/SDXC media, optional SSD and flexible recording options like redundant, relay and back-up modes.</p><p>The three CMOS 2/3-inch GY-HC900 camera accepts a variety of B4-mount broadcast lenses, while the GY-HC500 features impressive 20x optical zoom with a lossless 40x option when shooting in HD mode.                                 <p><strong>OTTAWA, Canada</strong>—Ross Video has launched its new X-series of pan/tilt heads and two new 4K UHD/NDI pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) cameras, the company said.</p><p>The X350 and X300 are compact, quiet and robust heads that are well-suited for remote camera applications requiring high-quality performance and flexibility from a discrete head/camera/lens solution. The heads have a 15-pound payload capacity and can handle practically any ENG or Box camera and lens combination.</p><p>The X350 offers a 5-inch full-color touchscreen for setup, local control and integrated tally. It also has integrated VS/AR tracking for virtual sets and augmented and extended reality, anti-backlash gearing, cascaded camera connections for power, control and genlock and MotionDirector for smooth, synchronized movement and keyframed moves, the company said.</p><p>The X300 entry-level head offers the same performance and reliability but fewer features, bringing its price down to less than half that of Ross’ existing models, the company said.</p><p>“Both models are compatible with our free DashBoard control software,” said Bruce Takasaki, marketing product manager for robotics and cameras at Ross. “When you consider feature set, affordability and the potential for integration into a custom control solution, the X-Series represents a tightly integrated solution that’s ideal for a wide range of production environments and applications.”</p><p>The new PTZ-12G and PTZ-NDI 4K pan-tilt-zoom cameras feature a 9.17 megapixel, 1-and-1.8-inch CMOS sensor. They capture full 4K UHD 60fps and progressive HD video. An Ethernet interface enables single-cable connectivity, providing for remote control via IP VISCA protocol, video output using 4K UHD IP streaming and Power over Ethernet (PoE) via standard Cat5 cable. An NDI workflow is also supported.                                 <p><strong>PARAMUS, N.J.</strong>—Sony has launched the Version 3.0 update for its BRC-X400, SRG-X400 and SRG-X120 PTZ cameras, adding support for the Secure Reliable Transport (SRT) protocol, the company said.</p><p>SRT adds low-latency transmission of high-quality video to the cameras, which are well-suited to a wide variety of applications, such as remote production, seminars, live events, education and house of worship.</p><p>Sony joined the SRT Alliance in January. The protocol combines encryption, packet loss recovery and jitter prevention to preserve video stream quality and integrity.</p><p>The camera update, which can be downloaded from the company’s website, supports Sony’s Adaptive Rate Control function, which provides a more stable connection and is optimized for the network environment and available bandwidth. It also supports the RTMP/RTMPS (Real Time Messaging Protocol), enabling the cameras to stream live video directly to social media platforms.</p><p>The company also has launched its new “Virtual Webcam Driver for Remote Camera.” The application turns remote cameras into web conference and lecture tools that achieve professional quality.</p><p>The application is compatible with the Window and Mac operating systems. It can be installed on any PC and paired with Sony’s BRC-X400, SRG-X400, SRG-XP1 and SRG-XB25 cameras as well as the REA-C1000 edge analytics appliance.                                 <p><strong>MELVILLE, N.Y.—</strong>Canon U.S.A has announced a trio of new 4K/UHD PTZ cameras, as well as a new remote camera controller that can handle multiple PTZ cameras at once.</p><p>The first new PTZ camera is the CR-N500, which features a 1-inch CMOS sensor, 3.2μm pixel pitch and a DIGIC DV 6 image processor to capture images with high sensitivity, low noise and a minimum subject illumination of 1.5 lux. The PTZ camera has a 15x optical zoom 4K UHD lens that covers a focal range of 25.5-382.5mm. It has a variable pan and tilt speed of 0.1-degree to 100-degree per second. There is also a built-in three-density ND filter, nine-bladed iris, Dual Pixel CMOS AF and support for Canon Log 3.</p><p>Then there is the CR-N300 and its 1/2.3-inch CMOS sensor, DIGIC DV 6 image processor and a 20x optical zoom lens with focal range of 29.3-601mm. CR-N300 has four scene modes: portrait, sports, low-light and spotlight. Additional features include Canon’s Hybrid AF system combining high-precision contrast AF and high-speed phase-difference AF; and 0.2-degree to 300-degree per second pan speed and 0.2-degree to 170-degree per second tilt speed.</p><p>Both the CR-N500 and CR-N300 are indoor PTZ cameras and support HDMI, IP and 3G-SDI. They are also compatible with live production protocols like NDI | HX, RTMP and more, per Canon.</p><p>The CR-X500 is an all-weather outdoor 4K/UHD PTZ camera. It has a 1-inch CMOS sensor that captures images in 60p/4:2:2/10-bit, as well as 3.2μm pixel pitch and a DIGIC DV 6 image processor to produce images with a minimum subject luminance of 3 lux. It features the same 15x optical lens as the CR-N500, but when in FHD mode operators can use the camera’s 4K multipixel sensors for up to 30x advance zoom. It also features Dual Pixel CMOS AF, Image Stabilization mode, a built-in wiper and support for Canon Log 3. Support is available for 12G-SDI.</p><p>Canon has also introduced the RC-IP100 camera remote controller that is compatible with all three of the new PTZ cameras and allows for the control of multiple cameras simultaneously. The RC-IP100 touts control and seesaw zoom levers and a 7-inch touch panel to control pan, tilt, zoom, focus and iris functions. When connected via IP, it is possible to control up to 100 CR-N500/CR-N300 cameras. When an outdoor CR-X500 camera is connected via RS-422 serial, up to 99 additional CR-N500/CR-N300 cameras can also be connected and controlled.</p><p>Canon’s indoor PTZ cameras come with Remote Camera Control Application software included, which allows PC users to register up to 20 cameras and view as many as nine at once.</p><p>A newly developed XC Protocol2 has also been announced, offering control and communication with select Canon video production devices for video streaming over IP. Later this year, Canon is expected to release new firmware to introduce the new XC Protocol to select Cinema EOS System cameras.</p><p>Canon will release the CR-N500, CR-N300, CR-X500 and RC-IP100 product in the summer.                                 <p><strong>TORRANCE, Calif.—</strong>Marshall Electronics has released two new models of NDI 4K PTZ cameras, the CV730-NDI and CV630-NDI.</p><p>The CV730-NDI features 4K60 over simultaneous 12G-SDI, HDMI 2.0 and NDI|HX with up to 3840x2160p UHD resolution at 60 fps. The CV630-NDI, meanwhile, features up to 3840x2160p UHD resolution at 30 fps with 3G-SDI, HDMI and NDI|HX.</p><p>Both of the new PTZ models have an extended 30x optical zoom range wrapped around a Sony broadcast sensor. The viewing angle for CV730 starts at 65 degrees, while the CV630 starts at 70 degrees.                                 <p><strong>ROME—</strong>Cartoni is using its experience designing camera support systems to develop products specifically for use with PTZ cameras, which the company says are increasingly being used because of the remote and social distance production needs stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic.</p><p>Rather than have PTZ cameras installed on ceilings, walls or camera support meant for larger cameras, Cartoni has designed a tripod/dolly, stand and pedestal designed for PTZs.</p><p>The PTZ tripod/dolly pairs a lightweight Cartoni tripod with a half-ball camera attachment. The entire setup rests on a lightweight dolly and comes with a mid-level spreader.</p><p>Cartoni’s PTZ stand features a telescopic three-stage stand with a PTZ ball joint to mount the PTZ camera. It also is equipped with a quick-release sliding plate and rubber feet that can be used alone or with the dolly.</p><p>Then there is the P20 pedestal, which now features a PTZ attachment. With this, PTZ cameras can be used in super high setups, while also having a vertical gliding movement of 40 cm.                                 <p><strong>MARLOW, U.K.—</strong>TSL Products has brought a new level of control to a number of its products, announcing a series of new control features. These control systems are designed to allow broadcasters to visualize their control workflows and bring all operations together into a single interface.</p><p>One of the products to receive an update to its control options is the AIB-4, which now has an updated advanced broadcast control panel. AIB-4 can provide a choice of communication paths (IP, audio channels, open intercom channel paths and POTS connection) back to the station. The platform can also be used for remote control, interfacing old and new kits or simplifying device monitoring.</p><p>TSL has also developed a virtual screen-based “Web-Key” for use with the Universal Control Switches (USP3). The USP3 panels act as “glue” devices that help subsystems communicate while maintaining a seamless workflow, per TSL. Both physical and virtual control buttons can advance a MOS-enabled newscast rundown, initiate a live-event commercial breakthrough station automation, reroute signals and more.</p><p>With PTZ cameras, TSL’s TallyMan Virtual Panel software can provide broadcasters with granular control, preset set/recall and tally control for cameras located anywhere. This allows for white balance and iris controls, maximizing quality and eliminating errors.                                 <p><strong>PARAMUS, N.J.—</strong>Sony has announced it is upgrading its BRC remote PTZ cameras with a new firmware release offering a set of features supporting the company’s ongoing efforts to help video producers remain safe and healthy while working from a distance.</p><p>The V2.1 firmware release for the <a href="https://pro.sony/ue_US/products/ptz-network-cameras/brc-x1000" target="_blank"><u>BRC-X1000/1, BRC-X1000/WPW</u></a> and <a href="https://pro.sony/ue_US/products/ptz-network-cameras/brc-h800" target="_blank"><u>BRC-H800/1, BRC-H800/WPW</u></a> allows producers and operators to simplify their VR and AR production workflows, the company said.</p><p>The firmware update enables the BRC cameras to output tracking data over IP, using the Free-D protocol, making it possible for the cameras to feed pan, tilt, zoom, focus, iris and positioning data in real time. </p><p>This capability eliminates the need for additional tracking devices and systems, making VR and AR productions simpler and less costly. It also will make it easier to incorporate VR and AR into live content for applications like set and scenery expansion, live animation, e-sports and graphic overlays.</p><p>The Free-D protocol is an industry standard supported by major AR/VR solutions providers. The BRC-X1000 and BRC-H800 currently are under verification with The Future Group (Pixotope), Reckeen, Vizrt and Zero Density. There are plans to support integration with other companies implementing Free-D data.</p><p>The firmware update also improves the pan/tilt/zoom operation of the BRC-X1000 and BRC-H800.</p><p>A reduced minimum speed allows the cameras to track an object more accurately on the set and facilitate shot framing. Output is more realistic and smoother, even with non-professional operators.</p><p>Additionally, the upgrade enables the cameras to focus as soon as the preset is recalled and supports control when using a physical remote controller.</p><p>The firmware upgrade for the cameras will be made available <a href="https://pro.sony/ue_US/support-resources/brc-x1000/software/00241732" target="_blank"><u>online</u></a> Aug. 31.</p>

                                <p>Ernie Nearman is a veteran broadcast engineer who has been practicing in Honolulu for decades. Like any contract engineer, Ernie sometimes has to be in two places at once, and believe it or not, he’s figured a way to do just that.</p><p>Ernie uses strategically-placed IP cameras at his sites to give him “remote” eyes to see what’s going on. He acknowledges that these IP cameras are not cheap, but if you buy the style that provides pan, tilt and zoom features, the camera does a pretty good job of letting you know what’s going on before you arrive at the site.</p><p>At one site, the camera is mounted on conduit so it normally faces the door. Anyone entering the site can be identified. However, with the built-in mechanical adjustments, Ernie can remotely turn the camera to view the faults on a transmitter, or point the camera in another direction to check the room temperature and Nitrogen pressure gauges.</p><p>After a storm, wouldn’t it be nice to know the surge suppressor took a hit before arriving at the transmitter site? A camera shot can show that information. These little snapshots may not seem important, but when you are handling a number of contract clients, IP cameras can help you perform triage.</p><p>If, for example, a station goes down and you see that the fault can be corrected remotely, your time can be spent on bigger issues. Ernie says this benefit is especially appreciated when a storm rolls through, taking several of his contract clients off the air at the same time. These IP cameras permit engineers to work smarter and more efficiently.</p><p>Ernie chose the Amcrest IP Camera, Model IP4M. It’s not the cheapest but its features include Ultra-HD resolution, remote viewing, two-way audio and night vision. It uses power over the Ethernet.</p><p>Yes, you can find less expensive versions, but buying cheap junk probably won’t give you the features you need.                                 <p><strong>IRVINE, Calif.—</strong>Teradek has announced that its new Orbit PTZ product is now available, which is designed to give HD/4K zero delay wireless video and camera control for PTZ cameras.</p><p>Teradek’s zero delay wireless video technology transmits uncompressed HD or 4K video up to 1,000 feet line of sight. Orbit PTZ can also transmit at less than 1ms of delay.</p><p>In addition, Orbit PTZ passes VISCA and Panasonic camera control commands over the same wireless link. This enables users to monitor and control PTZ cameras wirelessly with no latency using the same transmitter and receiver system.</p><p>Orbitz PTZ includes a built-in tally light and optional battery plates.</p><p>Teradek is offering two models of Orbit PTZ: Orbit PTZ (HD) for $3,990 and Orbit PTZ (4K) for $4,990.</p>

                                <p><strong>WASHINGTON—</strong>It’s not the size that counts, but how you use it. PTZ cameras—named such for their “pan, tilt and zoom” capabilities—are growing in popularity among broadcasters not in spite of their diminutive size compared to traditional broadcast cameras, but rather because of it.</p><p>PTZ cameras first cut their teeth mainly for surveillance, but they have become more popular in a number of other industries, including broadcasters who use them for specialized roles in certain productions. Now, as new technological capabilities are being added to boost the functionality and quality of these cameras, there is a growing acknowledgement that the cameras can come close to matching those of traditional broadcast cameras—some even think that they could eventually surpass them.</p><h2 id="fitting-in">FITTING IN</h2><p>We carry computers in our pockets every day in the form of our smartphones. Technology has gotten smaller, and as a result more adaptable as to where and how they can be used.</p><p>Even still, a traditional broadcast camera setup in a production studio will often require things like a pedestal, dolly, jib and a camera operator for dynamic movements. PTZ cameras, on the other hand, have built-in capabilities that can mimic some of those movements without the size restrictions.</p><p>“Most [PTZ cameras] are compact, they’re small,” said Hamid James, a product manager at Panasonic. “You still need equipment to support a PTZ camera, but not the same level that you would the traditional camera. Podcasts and radio stations looking to create videos or live simulcasts have often utilized that type of strategy.</p><p>“You certainly see them more and more in really small studios, where they don’t want manned cameras,” said Drew Buttress, senior product manager, Sony Electronics. “So they’ll put a number of PTZs on tripods to give them different angles and different shots.”</p><p>Buttress also can see PTZ cameras, which already are used on occasion in sports productions, expand their role on the baseball diamond, basketball court, hockey rink or football field.</p><p>“You would potentially see PTZs where there’s not a lot of space in the actual broadcast boost with that talent calling the play-by-play,” he added. “So they might put a PTZ in there just to be able to take a live shot of the talent while the game or event is going on.” He does, however, think that high-end cameras will always be needed for top-end sports productions and larger shows.</p><h2 id="a-changing-workforce">A CHANGING WORKFORCE</h2><p>Broadcasters’ operating costs are in many cases not what they used to be—many have had to downsize their budgets, their staff and their workspace. All of which have a potential solution in the form of PTZ cameras.</p><p>“The evolution of broadcast as we know it is sort of in a ‘half-life’ right now, where traditional approaches to this are being replaced by much less expensive, more efficient ways to do things,” said Rush Beesley, president of RUSHWORKS, a Dallas-based provider of production automation technology. “That’s just the nature of the market.”</p><p>Beesley believes that for broadcasters facing those constraints, it is only practical that they look toward robotic, PTZ cameras, which in addition to being generally less expensive than traditional broadcast cameras, do not require individual camera operators. A particular example of this, he sees, is with news production.</p><p>“It’s a repetitive model that happens every day, multiple times a day, and it just makes perfect sense to have robots there because if you think about what’s going on, the studio may have one or up to four sets in a 360-degree circle,” Beesley said. “If the cameras are mounted properly and used properly you can block the shots.”</p><p>“PTZ cameras lend themselves to be a little more flexible than the traditional set,” James added.</p><p>The move to more unmanned studios is a change that doesn’t appear to be changing any time soon, according to Buttress.</p><h2 id="the-future">THE FUTURE</h2><p>These are the basic elements of PTZ cameras that have helped them grow in popularity among broadcasters, but new technology that could boost resolution and functionality will help determine just how far PTZs can grow within the industry.</p><p>The biggest argument for traditional cameras is that their resolution quality cannot really be matched. However, while PTZ cameras are not at the same level, the differences to viewers is miniscule, to the point where people at home can’t really tell the difference, says Beesley.</p><p>“The gap is definitely narrowing, but there is still a gap,” said Edgar Shane, general manager, Engineering, JVC Professional Video. There has been a big push for PoE technology being added to PTZs, with NewTek NDI IP technology a popular option. Broadcasters also have a keen eye on the development of the SMPTE ST 2110 video over IP transport standard. Buttress says that Sony has its bases covered with either, embracing 2110 in system cameras, while also having NDI-ready cameras.</p><p>It is pretty much unanimous that PTZs are a growing part of the broadcast industry, but their potential is still up for debate.</p><p>“The incline will be relatively shallow,” said Beesley. “It’s made a lot of increases recently because of things like the NDI/PoE, but past that I don’t see vertical ascension as there is in so many other areas of technology.”</p><p>Shane, meanwhile, thinks it’s just about someone connecting the dots: “I’m pretty sure a talented designist will try to bridge this gap between the high-end PTZ and broadcast cameras.                                 <p><strong>INDIANAPOLIS—</strong>London-based OTT subscription service DAZN has purchased several Panasonic AW-UE150 4K pan/tilt/zoom cameras for its production of “The Pat McAfee Show” from a new studio it has built in the hometown of the former Indianapolis Colts Pro Bowl punter.</p><p>The show, streamed live weekdays on DAZN from 10 a.m. till noon EDT, is one of several ventures McAfee, who also is a commentator on ESPN’s Thursday night college football coverage, has taken on for the OTT service. He also creates football-focused segments for DAZN Canada and Germany, where the OTT service holds streaming rights for the NFL, and streams a podcast three times per week.</p><p>During the summer, DAZN built out the Indianapolis studio in a warehouse space where McAfee was working.</p><p>“Pat continues to work with his longtime crew, but this is really DAZN’s first opportunity to associate our brand with football, and we wanted a high-end, future-proofed production studio,” said DAZN Technical Operations Director Petro Mynch.</p><p>Five of the new Panasonic AW-UE150 cameras are installed permanently in the Indianapolis studio. Two are stationed in McAfee’s mobile studio. DAZN also acquired two AW-RP 150 PTZ control surfaces—one each for the Indianapolis and mobile studios, as well as three Panasonic BT-LH1770 17-inch monitors—two for the former and one for the latter.</p><p>“As a host, Pat is always on the move, very kinetic, so robotic cameras were a natural choice for us,” said Mynch. “We wanted our production kit to be good for at least a few years, and while we presently produce in 1080i/59.94, we have built-in 4K acquisition with the UE150.”</p><p>The new studio was built on an accelerated schedule, and Mynch found Panasonic to be helpful with the tight schedule, delivering the equipment promptly and offering necessary training, he said. “There is no on-site engineer; it’s literally all hands on deck with camera ops, and everyone has been impressed with the UE150’s ease of set-up and use,” he said.</p><p>The Panasonic UE150 cameras deliver excellent image quality and offer plug-and-play ease with the AW-RP150 remote controllers, he added, noting that the real-time color correction support offered by the BT-LH1770 monitors is helpful.</p><p>“Beginning with our very quick studio build, then moving on to demanding weekly live production assignments, the UE150s and support gear have worked impressively well and dependably,” he noted.<br/></p><p>More information is available on the Panasonic <a href="https://us.panasonic.com/broadcast" data-original-url="http://us.panasonic.com/broadcast">website</a>.</p>

It displays a GUI menu screen along with iris, zoom and focus camera information. Pan and tilt operations are done via a large joystick, the company said.</p><p>The AW-RP60GJ can control up to 200 PTZ cameras in 20 groups via IP. With 100 camera presets, the camera offers Power over Ethernet (PoE) support for single-cable integration.</p><p>The controller has four user-assignable buttons. Up to eight functions—two of a user’s choosing—can be assigned to the buttons. A PC tool can be used to customize preset names.</p><p>By registering camera angles and other remote camera settings, presets can be recalled easily. Preset speed is user-adjustable. A camera operator uses the RM-LP 100 to follow the action on the court. In addition, the cameras provide integrated streaming capabilities, wide angle lenses and on-board recording to micro SDHC/SDXC cards.</p><p>Each camera is connected via fiber to a Blackmagic Design Smart Videohub router, which allows the controllers to adjust any camera. The router’ web-based user interface also provides remote access to the JVC PTZ camera controls and on-board recording capabilities.</p><p>The video footage is used with DVSport FastBreak coaching software for users to access and filter video into cutups, as well as the DVSport Rewind, which provides near real-time footage to a tablet.</p>
