SHENZHEN, China—PTZ camera manufacturer Telycam has launched the Explore 100, Explore 300 and Explore 500 cameras, new models in its broadcast-class Explore series.

Telycam will showcase the new cameras in booth N7957 at InfoComm 2026, set for June 17–19 in Las Vegas.

The new models are designed to deliver outstanding image quality, precise focus and smooth mechanical movement across a wide range of production scenarios, including sports broadcasts, corporate events, educational applications, and live production environments, Telycam said.

The Explore 100 and Explore 300 are the next generation of Telycam's Explore SE and Explore XE cameras, respectively, while the Explore 500 is the newest version of its top-of-the-line Explore model.

All three models deliver improved performance with advanced features including Telycam's new Brushless DC motor and 3-axis synchronization, designed to eliminate robotic movement and deliver fluid, natural camera motion-perfect for broadcast-quality production.

The Explore 300 and Explore 500 are equipped with a 4/3-inch sensor and 20x optical zoom, coupled with Hybrid AF for exceptional low-light performance and fast, accurate autofocus, Telycam said.

Both models also incorporate an OLPF (optical low-pass filter) lens to minimize moiré effects when shooting in front of LED walls, enhancing virtual production and digital content creation.

The Explore 100 combines a 1/1.8" sensor with 30x optical zoom as a low-cost entry point to broadcast-grade PTZ capture.

All three models offer a flexible array of output connectivity. The Explore 300 outputs 4K at 60 frames per second over HDMI or NDI HX3, with 4K at 30 fps available over USB-C and 1080p60 video over 3G-SDI. The Explore 100 and Explore 500 offer the same outputs plus NDI High Bandwidth, 12G-SDI (with genlock) and SFP+ interfaces. All three models can also stream directly in SRT, RTMP and RTSP, and can record files on an SD card.

The brand-new WebUI for the next-generation Explore models is fully mobile-friendly, making it easy for users to control the cameras remotely from a phone or iPad, Telycam said. It also features four Scene Presets, allowing users to save and quickly recall different image settings for varying lighting and stage conditions. The new WebUI integrates numerous small enhancements designed to provide a smoother, more intuitive user experience, the company said.

The Explore 100, Explore 300, and Explore 500 are scheduled to be available in the third quarter. They will sell for the same original MSRP as their earlier equivalent.

More information is available on Telycam’s website.

NEW YORK—Iris, the new cloud-connected camera control platform, has officially launched with features that turn virtually any PTZ camera into a software-connected, remotely controlled device and eliminate such traditional constraints as hardware dependencies, inconsistent control and the lack of on-site crews.

The company said that the platform is designed to remove longstanding pain points for production teams: fragmented control tools and protocols across brands, the need for constant manual adjustments and the inherent limits of on-site equipment and staffing.

Iris changes this by providing universal, browser-based control that works across camera brands and enables full production management from anywhere in the world, the company said.

In addition, the platform’s AI-powered automation is designed to handle traditionally manual tasks, like real-time subject tracking and framing, allowing operators to focus on creative decisions rather than technical adjustments. Its intuitive interface ensures that non-technical users can achieve professional results, democratizing access to advanced capabilities that deliver the production quality of larger-budget operations, the company said.

Organizations can also use Iris to scale up without proportionally increasing their costs or crew size, the company said. A single operator can manage multiple cameras across multiple locations, while remote teams collaborate in real time as if they were in the same room. This scalability opens doors to productions that were previously impractical or impossible, from small community theater livestreams to global corporate events spanning multiple time zones.

More specifically, the Iris desktop application allows production teams to quickly discover, link to, and control over 300 camera models on their local network. For those using Iris-enabled cameras, the platform is built directly into the device’s firmware, connecting instantly to the cloud without any additional hardware or complex setup.

This direct-to-cloud capability debuts alongside broad support from leading PTZ camera manufacturers, including AIDA, BirdDog, Bolin, BZBGear, Everet, HDKATOV, Lumens, Marshall, NEOiD, Telycam, and Z CAM. Together, these integrations position Iris as the leading software standard for camera control.

“Setup now takes minutes, not hours,” said Noah Johnson, founder of Iris. “Our custom drivers unlock every camera feature—not just the common ones—and our intelligent framing tools make operating cameras feel natural, fast, and cinematic. And because Iris lives in the cloud, your cameras are now truly remote—you can manage, access, and control them from anywhere, anytime.”

As part of the launch, the company highlighted several possible use cases. Houses of worship can empower volunteer teams to deliver professional-looking livestreams using automation and visual effects. Educational institutions can manage cameras across lecture halls with a centralized, remote-control room. Corporate teams can produce executive communications and all-hands meetings across multiple offices. Media producers can collaborate in real time across locations for seamless productions. With Iris, even remote interviews become effortless: Ship a camera, plug it in and instantly access the video and controls in the Iris account.

The Iris platform is available at tryiris.ai for content producers to begin connecting cameras immediately.

SHENZHEN, China—PTZ camera company Telycam has begun shipping its Explore broadcast-class PTZ camera and will showcase it along with other new products at the 2025 NAB Show, April 6-9 in Las Vegas.

With the ability to capture 4K video at 60 fps, the Explore camera's 1-inch, 9MP Sony sensor enhances light sensitivity, resulting in superior low-light performance with reduced noise levels, Telycam said. It features an expanded dynamic range that captures intricate details in both shadows and highlights, and with enhanced contrast and clarity. 'Bokeh' effects with a shallow depth of field can be created to suit any artistic intention.

Explore's advanced Phase Detection Autofocus (PDAF) provides exceptionally fast and precise auto-focus, making it ideal for dynamic broadcast and live production scenarios, the company said.

Designed to seamlessly integrate into diverse workflows, Explore's versatile IP and AV outputs include NDI High Bandwidth, NDI HX3, 12G-SDI with genlock, HDMI and SFP+ connectivity. AI-powered auto-tracking and 20x optical zoom are complemented by FreeD protocol support for integration with Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) production solutions.

A built-in variable ND filter allows easy adjustment of light transmission levels to 1.6%, 6.3%, 25% or 100%. Users can also attach their preferred ND filter directly to the lens using reserved threads, ensuring precise control in a wide range of lighting conditions. Additional key features include local recording to a microSD card, a 3.5mm analog audio input, a mini-XLR audio input with phantom power and POE++ support for hassle-free power management.

"The Explore camera continues Telycam's hallmarks of setting new standards in PTZ image quality and performance while delivering premium features at cost-effective pricing," said Jenny Liu, Telycam's co-founder and head of sales and marketing. "The response to our previews of Explore last year was tremendous, and we're thrilled that it is now available to our customers."

Telycam PTZ cameras and AV innovations are distributed in the United States and Canada by MVD (Mobile Video Devices, Inc.).

Telycam will be in Booth W3231 in the West Hall of the LVCC.

SYDNEY—The Nine Network has completed its purchase, installation and roll out of Sony ILME-FR7 PTZ cameras into its remote operated studio in Canberra. The new remote broadcast news studio is particularly unique due to its use of the Sony large sensor PTZ cameras, not traditionally used in studio television.

“This new studio is particularly effective for us as, by using the Sony FR7 cameras, we can remotely control all of the cameras and setup from Sydney,” Nine Chief CTO of broadcast operations David Bowers explained. “This is not only a very efficient workflow, but it also saved us a considerable amount of money when compared to buying and installing a full robotic setup.”

Sony FR7 cameras are also being used in the Nine Network’s talent operated studio in Canberra.

The new four-camera studio enjoys both fully remote production from Sydney and open plan local control in Canberra. It also comprises production, news exchange and basic edit facilities and capabilities, Sony reported.

“We wanted to build a multi- purpose studio with full remote capability,” Nine broadcast systems integration manager Mark Rath said. “For that we required the best PTZ cameras that could accommodate varying lens requirements in the studio. We assessed all the PTZ cameras available in the market and found the Sony FR7 met all of our requirements perfectly.”

Sony’s FR7 PTZ camera with its high-performance full-frame image sensor and the expressive scope of Sony’s extensive E-mount lens lineup work with versatile remote pan/tilt/zoom control, high flexibility in zoom capability and wide angle shooting to break through location and space limitations to open up creative possibilities for broadcasters and content creators in studio, live production and filmmaking settings. It also offers versatile connectivity and efficient multi camera workflow support, Sony reported.

“The FR7 is exactly what we required for our remote operated broadcast studio in Canberra as it provides us with large sensor studio quality cameras - our key requirement,” Bowers concluded. “The picture quality and the ability to interchange lenses with the FR7 is also excellent. In short, by using Sony FR7 PTZ cameras the Nine Network now has the ability to have complete access to the studio in Canberra when needed and the ability to sit talent in a remote location, while we in turn do all the production including audio/video, lighting and comms from Sydney.”

TORRANCE, Calif.—Marshall Electronics announces the release of its VS-PTC-300 PTZ camera controller, providing the ability to manage multiple protocols, including NDI, RS232/RS422/RS485 and IP, VISCA over IP and ONVIF.

The VS-PTC-300 IP POE PTZ controller allows users to control multiple cameras using the same or different protocols, which is beneficial while migrating to a larger set-up. It can control up to seven-RS232 cameras, fourteen-RS422 cameras and up to 255 NDI/IP cameras. It also allows easy NDI/IP set-up utilizing the NDI/IP discovery set-up, the company reported.

“The VS-PTC-300’s layout provides 10 ‘instant access’ camera control buttons, which reduces fumbling when quick action is required,” says Greg Boren, product marketing engineer at Marshall Electronics. “In addition, the information display screen doubles as a video monitor for NDI and RTSP streams. Also, there is no need to type in the camera number before operating the camera; just select the camera button and you’re in control. These small upgrades may seem like simple improvements, but camera operators will be thrilled with these changes.”

The VS-PTC-300 is designed to operate seamlessly across multiple camera protocols on a single network. Used in live event production and content creation, the VS-PTC-300 offers detailed operation through a high-quality PTZ joystick, professional zoom rocker and individual fine-tune adjustment knobs. Settings include iris, white balance, exposure, red/blue, shutter speed, focus, pan/tilt speed and zoom speed, the company said.

The VS-PTC-300 can store up to six selectable Assign function keys and save up to 256 camera presets with memory of image setting parameters. Dedicated knobs and control buttons simplify direct access to frequently used functions without needing to use on-camera menus. The VS-PTC-300’s joystick allows “one hand” PTZ/Focus or use the convenient rocker for Zoom. Its solid construction ensures that the controller will not slide while operating the joystick. The built-in display also allows the crew to easily check framing/focus, the team can store presets and also practice camera moves.

BARCELONA—At ISE 2023, NewTek introduced the Flex control panel that enables operators to control PTZ cameras directly, as well as audio connections, audio and video switching and talkback via NDI.

No other NewTek control panel builds in control over audio and video switching and PTZ control and talkback in a single unit, said NewTek, a Vizrt Group company.

"Over the course of the last several years, the demand for high-quality distributed production has grown beyond measure. We recognize the need for operators to be able to adapt to any workflow, and the Flex does just that – all with the power of NDI. Offering greater control and connectivity than ever before, it’s our most flexible and powerful control panel yet,” said NewTek senior product manager Chris McLendon.

The built-in features offer operators greater precision and control. With the addition of audio I/O, Flex expands the on-board I/O of any NewTek TriCaster with the option to add external sources directly from the NDI ecosystem, it said.

Flex connects to a network via NDI, making unnecessary the physical tether to the video switcher with fixed cable runs and complex setups that are difficult to move to a new location, the company said.

The new control panel not only can connect to any TriCaster switcher on a network via NDI, but it also supports operators needing to work in a distributed production environment, it said.

Flex is available today with a suggested price of $9,495.

More information is available on the company’s website.

Los Angeles—Sony Electronics is bringing the PTZ camera into the cinematic realm with today’s launch of the ILME-FR7, an E-mount interchangeable lens camera with a full-frame image sensor and built-in pan/tilt/zoom (PTZ) functionality. This latest edition to its Cinema line brings versatile remote control and cinematic features to advance creative possibilities in studio, live production and filmmaking settings, the company said.

“The cinematic look and feel is rapidly becoming the norm in broadcasting and live production as it opens up new ways to tell a narrative,” said Yang Cheng, Vice President, Imaging Solutions, Sony Electronics Inc. “In parallel, over the last 2 years, we’ve seen a steep rise in content created remotely or in small locations where access is difficult. At Sony, we are always listening to our customers. We are thrilled to announce the FR7 that combines the flexibility of a standard PTZ camera with stunning visuals through advanced cinematic features.”

Here is a video of the new PTZ camera in action:

The FR7 features a back-illuminated 35mm full-frame CMOS image sensor Exmor R with approximately 10.3 effective megapixels and wide 15+ stop latitude (Sony’s S-Log 3 recording) in a pan tilt zoom (PTZ) camera for the first time. In addition to wide dynamic range, low noise, and cinematic full frame bokeh, this amazing sensor also delivers high sensitivity that allows ISO to be expanded up to 409,600 (custom mode when shooting in low light.

The FR7 features Sony’s E-mount and can mount a wide range of E-mount lenses, including the G Master series with stunning resolution and bokeh effect, the company said. A choice of focal lengths ranging from 12 mm to 1200 mm gives users comprehensive creative control.

A number of Cinema Line features are built into the camera to deliver a cinematic look and feel including:

The Sensitivity setting allows ISO to be expanded up to 409,600 when shooting in low light.

A 15+ stop latitude allows smooth highlights and low noise levels.

A number of preset scene files are included including S-Cinetone for natural mid-tones that are essential to healthy-looking skin color, plus soft colors and gorgeous highlights. Since the target look can be created while shooting, time can be saved in post-production. In the Cine EI mode, base sensitivity can be set to either ISO 800 or ISO 12800 to match lighting conditions and to minimize noise while maintaining a consistent look. This mode is ideal for post-production, as it allows the use of Sony’s original S-Log3 gamma, wide S-Gamut3 and S-Gamut3.Cine color spaces.

Shooting up to 120fps 4K (QFHD) and 240 fps FHD slow-motion is possible, again creating that emotional possibility offered by a cinematic look.

With a new dedicated web application, pan, tilt, zoom, focus, record, playback, and all camera settings can be intuitively controlled from a tablet or computer web browser, allowing multiple people to monitor FR7 footage remotely simultaneously. Multi camera monitoring is also enabled, allowing multiple cameras to be viewed remotely on one device.

With its integrated remotely controllable pan/tilt mechanism, the FR7 can be mounted on a tripod, on a ceiling with the dedicated CIB-PCM1, or in other locations with limited access so that subjects can be unobtrusively followed and recorded from unique viewpoints. It's also compatible with Sony’s RM-IP500 remote controller for multi-camera production, expanding creative potential while reducing the need for dedicated staff in production studios and other shooting situations. A single RM-IP500 unit can remotely control up to 100 PTZ cameras and provide precious joystick-controlled pan, tilt, and zoom operation.

The supplied infrared remote controller will also support the FR7’s simple operation.

The new FR7 will be available in November 2022 for approximately $9699.99 USD and $12,399.99 CAD. The FR7K, which includes the FR7 and SELP28135G lens, will be available for $12,199.99 USD and $15,699.99CAD while the CIB-PCM1 ceiling bracket will be available for $119.99 USD and $159.99 CAD. It will be sold at a variety of Sony's authorized dealers throughout North America.

The FR7 will be showcased for the first time on Sony’s booth at IBC 2022 in Amsterdam, Sept. 9-12.

Select features include:

BirdDog Dashboard with Heads Up Display: The P240 features a comprehensive interface that provides system statistics such as the number of active connections, current bandwidth usage, and network traffic, and presented in an intuitive way to give users valuable insights at a quick glance.

RUDP: Support for Reliable User Datagram Protocol reduces overall network load as not every packet needs to be acknowledged by every receiver. RUDP has error correction built in for smoothness and maximum reliability.

NDI Genlock: With NDI Genlock, users can select an NDI source to be the timing master to provide more predictable timing in multi camera environments.

FreeD: FreeD is a protocol for sending PTZ positioning data to AR/VR systems including Unreal Engine, Brainstorm, Vizrt’s Viz Virtual Studio, and many more. The P240 supports FreeD built directly into The Dashboard.

NDI Video Scopes: The P240 cameras can generate scopes in-camera to send out as NDI, NDI Proxy, or both. This allows for monitoring scopes on the NDI Proxy while sending a clean main NDI feed simultaneously. Users can choose from Histogram, Waveform, Vectorscope, or RGB Parade and the position on the NDI stream.

360° Mohawk Tally: Innovative new Mohawk Tally gives a full 360 degree view to eliminate the guesswork of which camera users need to be talking to.

Unique Numbering System: Removable silicon numbers at the back of the P240 give additional Tally vision and allow switcher operators to easily identify cameras.

OLED Display: Convenient OLED displays allow for information such as IP Address, Device Name, Stream Name, Resolution, and Frame Rate. This feature can also be accessed in The Dashboard.

Most Formats Now Supported: Along with Full NDI, the P240 will soon support a significant number of formats including NDI|HX2, NDI|HX3, SRT, H.264 for low bandwidth requirements.

Globally Connected. No computers needed: By adding a BirdDog Cloud subscription, users can now access the PTZ cameras and all features from anywhere in the world with no additional computers needed on the camera side.

Sophisticated Color Tools: The P240 hosts an expansive set of color tools. With 64 levels of saturation and hue control over red, green, blue, cyan, yellow, and magenta, users can shade and match P240 cameras like a professional colorist.

FREE Cam Control: The BirdDog Cam Control app offers simple, user-friendly features for dialing in to BirdDog cameras. Simply load on a Windows 10 machine on the same network as the BirdDog cameras and access all functions of the camera through a beautiful interface. Quickly dial in the look you like and copy settings across multiple cameras in seconds. And it is free with all BirdDog cameras.

BirdDog’s new P240 NDI PTZ cameras will be available in Q4 2022 and are priced at $2,995.00 USD.

WAYNE, NJ,—JVC Professional Video has announced that its new 4K KY-PZ400NW/NB PTZ cameras, the newest addition to its Connected Cam line of cameras, are now available.

The HD versions of the PTZs, the KY-PZ200NW/NB and the more economical HD KY-PZ200W/B, will begin shipping in November, the company said.

The cameras are designed to be particularly suitable for sports, concerts and other live event broadcasts or productions and provide new creative streaming possibilities for an ever-evolving remote media landscape, JVC said.

With integrated NDI|HX technology from the Vizrt Group, the KY-PZ400NW/NB and KY-PZ200NW/NB cameras offer a high-quality, low-latency IP video transmission standard that is ideal for streaming.

All three camera options provide optimal image quality and performance for remote production over the internet, and are equipped with SRT technology, H.265/H.264/MJPEG encoding and VITC (Vertical Interval Timecode) multi-camera synchronization. Each model is also available in black or white to best match the ambience of the venue/project.

JVC said that NDI-enabled devices like JVC’s new PTZ NDI camera exponentially increase the video sources available for storytellers, creating efficiencies and opportunities that did not previously exist.

“We are excited to provide this functionality in our new 4K and HD PTZ production cameras and look forward to shipping these new cameras to our customers,” said Joe D’Amico, vice president, JVC Professional Video. “With the 4K model shipping now and the HD-versions shipping later this year, current and prospective JVC customers can enjoy the benefits and freedom that NDI technology brings to their streaming productions.”

All three cameras also include SRT, HTTP, RTSP, RTMP/RTMPS and standard protocols. With SRT open-source technology now becoming synonymous to JVC cameras, PTZ users are afforded a truly future-proofed solution with continual firmware updates, JVC said.

The advanced streaming capabilities of the incorporated SRT technology adds automatic repeat request (ARQ) and forward error correction (FEC) to prevent packet loss typically found on internet connections. It also offers stream encryption for content protection.

When paired with the JVC BR-DE900 ProHD Decoder, the PTZ camera/decoder solution delivers optimal quality of service over any network for an unparalleled viewing experience, JVC said.

A professional-grade, high-performance IP streaming system component, the BR-DE900 decoder supports the latest bandwidth efficient HEVC/H.265 and H.264/AVC compression standards. It also features a robust, portable enclosure that’s perfectly suited for field use, and provides best-in-class video quality and industry-standard audio/video connectivity.

The incorporated Vertical Interval Time Code (VITC) with Network Time Protocol (NTP) provides the new JVC PTZ cameras with multi-camera synchronization for live event production. This feature is ideal for mixing and streaming concerts, shows, sports and other live productions where image synchronization is crucial. Remote control capabilities are made possible through the JVC RM-LP100 Remote Camera Controller, JVC KM-IP6000/4000 Live IP Production Suites or a variety of other options from vMix, OBS Studio and NewTek, JVC explained.

For remote conferences and lectures, the KY-PZ200N and KY-PZ200 support UVC (USB Video Class), which enables the cameras to be used as webcams. Both models can be directly connected to a PC using a USB cable (sold separately), making them ideal for a range of educational and other digital applications.

Equipped with a 4K 1/2.5-inch progressive scanning CMOS image sensor, the KY-PZ400N has a wide angle of view (approx. 26.4mm @35mm equivalence), 0.5 Lux of minimum illumination and 16x digital zoom. The KY-PZ200N and KY-PZ200 include an HD 1/2.8-inch progressive CMOS image sensor, as well as 20x optical zoom reaching out to 606.9mm @35mm equivalence. All three cameras have HDMI and 3G-SDI, RJ45 with PoE, RS232 and RS485 interfaces standard.

The new KY-PZ400N camera (MSRP: $2,599) is now shipping; while the new KY-PZ200N (MSRP: $2,099) and KY-PZ200 (MSRP: $1,899) are scheduled for availability this November.

For more information, visit JVC’s website at http://pro.jvc.com or call (800) 582 5825.

NEWARK, N.J.—Panasonic has begun to ship its new AW-UE100 Pan/Tilt/Zoom (PTZ) camera, which the company says is the first PTZ camera to support 4K/60p for high-bandwidth NDI and Secure Reliable Transport (SRT) for capturing high-quality images and video over public internet .

Among the new features of the AW-UE100 is a Direct Drive motor that allows for quieter and smoother movements, as well as heightened response time, per Panasonic. The PTZ camera also has increased flexibility with support for a range of IP transmission protocols, including NDI, NDI|HX and SRT; low latency live video transmissions with high-bandwidth NDI to transmit 4K/60p at 250 Mbps, as well as full HD at 100 Mbps over a single LAN cable; and 24x optical zoom and a 74.1-degree horizontal viewing angle.

Panasonic is also developing a plug-in for use with the AW-UE100 that integrates with the Unreal 3D Engine due to the FreeD positioning data outputted by the camera for creating immersive virtual or augmented reality experiences.

The AW-UE100 is being sold for $8,350.
CLEVELAND—I work in the Baseball Operations department of the Cleveland Indians and, among other things, we use video extensively to help players and the coaching staff with advance scouting and self-scouting analysis. Our goal is to put our players in the best position for success and we take pride in doing that for each and every home game.

One of six Telemetrics’ RoboEye cameras at Progressive Park, home of the Cleveland Indians.

Our capabilities were strengthened when we installed four RoboEye Integrated PTZ Cameras and a single RCCP-1 Remote Camera Control Panel from Telemetrics. Two of the integrated HD cameras, installed in 2015, are mounted (one each) in the home and away team bullpens. A corresponding video monitor has been mounted inside each dugout to allow the respective coaches to monitor pitcher activity. The other two RoboEye cameras, installed last fall, are mounted between the upper and lower bowl of the ballpark (Progressive Field) that are trained on home plate. These we use to capture our hitters—one from the direct side and one from the open side—to give them and the coaches several angles from which to watch and learn.

IMPROVED ANALYSIS

We really like the image quality produced with the RoboEye cameras, which offer a S/N ratio of 50dB and a sensitivity level of F8 at 2,000 lux. It’s a full HD (1920 x 1080 HDSDI) camera and we can paint them with the RCCP-1 control panel to get the best-looking images possible for our coaching needs. The PTZ camera includes an integrated Sony Exmor 2.18-megapixel CMOS image sensor and a 30X zoom lens for all the focal range we need. For our operators’ convenience, gain setup is automatic with a manual override.

The clarity of the HD video coming from the RoboEyes is much better than any other camera we have ever used. This has given our players and coaches a lot of material to work with. We shoot at 60 fps, so that they can slow the motion down for better analysis in terms of mechanics and performance.

Using the RCCP-1 control panel, the Telemetrics cameras are operated by one of several people on my staff and since we got it last fall everyone has found it to be easy to use and very intuitive. We store presets on the panel when we find angles that someone particularly likes to work with, but the operator can change the angle at any time with the panel’s joystick. It’s also got a nice touchscreen interface that makes shot select fast and easy.

Using robotic cameras allows us to have a camera position that’s rock solid—without a human operator—in all types of weather. We actually have seven robotic cameras in the ballpark, some from other manufacturers, but the four Telemetrics RoboEye cameras are the most robust and really never need attending to. [Those extra feeds, in conjunction with network cameras feeding into our system, means we are monitoring up to 15 different angles at the same time of every pitch.] The control panel is not used for the other robotic cameras, but if we decide to get more RoboEyes, we’ll feed them into the RCCP-1 as well.

To sum it all up, we had to have a reliable camera that performed without errors under the most adverse conditions (including Cleveland weather). The RoboEye has been that camera for us. While they produce a great image, and can be robotically controlled with ease, these things are built like little bowling balls. I truly believe that if the RoboEye took a direct hit from a baseball, it would not be affected at all, whereas some of our other cameras wouldn’t be as lucky. In fact, we had a ball smash a broadcast lens on one of the network cameras the other day. It was not pretty.

Bob Chester has worked in the Baseball Operations department for The Cleveland Indians, in various capacities, since 1995.
