WAYNE, N.J.—Independent cable TV station CN2 in Rock Hill, S.C., this summer acquired a JVCKenwood ProHD Portable Bridge bonded LTE hotspot for live news updates to its daily newscasts and website.

With the Bridge and the new BR-DE900 ProHD decoder, CN2 is delivering live material to viewers for the first time, said David Bain, technical manager, adding that the setup will likely be used later this month for live coverage of the Rock Hill Christmas Parade.

CN2, which is owned and operated by Comporium Communications, has two channels serving the tri-county area of York, Lancaster and Chester.

The cable channel produces a weekday newscast at 6 p.m. and “CN2 Today,” a daytime newsmagazine three times each week. Most live content is shared on the CN2 website.

For the parade, CN2 will record multi-camera coverage and edit footage in post to be viewed later. However, one camera will be paired with the Bridge to provide live coverage of the event on the CN2 website, said Bain. A similar setup was used for a recent school board debate.

The Portable Bridge streams signals from Connected Cam, 4KCam, ProHD and JVC PTZ streaming cameras. It uses Peplink’s SpeedFusion VPN bonding technology to combine multiple cellular, wired and Wi-Fi connections.

Owned and operated by Comporium Communications, CN2 has two channels that serve the tri-county area of York, Lancaster, and Chester. Its small news crew produces a 6 p.m. newscast on weekdays, plus a daytime newsmagazine show, CN2 Today, three times per week. So far, most live content is being shared on the website.

Bain said the Bridge may be used for live coverage of the Rock Hill Christmas Parade later this month. CN2 will record multi-camera coverage of the parade and edit the footage in post for later viewing, but one camera will be paired with the Bridge for live coverage on the website. A similar setup was used for coverage of a recent school board debate. Bain said it only takes a few minutes to setup the RTMP feeds on the station’s five JVC GY-HM660 ProHD mobile news cameras, and “operation of the Bridge is very easy.”

The Portable Bridge streams signals from CONNECTED CAM, 4KCAM, ProHD, and JVC PTZ streaming cameras for live broadcasts or webcasts. Using Peplink’s SpeedFusion VPN Bonding technology, it combines multiple cellular, wired, and Wi-Fi connections. Dual cellular modems with redundant SIM slots support up to four different cellular providers for bandwidth bonding, data overage protection, or blind spot elimination. Dual-band Wi-Fi provides two independent, high-speed networks that work together (2x2 MIMO) to maximize throughput. The self-contained remote broadcasting hub can be powered by AC or an attached Anton/Bauer battery.

The ProHD Portable Bridge is a self-contained, remote broadcasting hub that uses SpeedFusion VPN Bonding technology, which combines multiple cellular, wired and Wi-Fi connections. The new system allows live streaming from multiple cameras to HD-SDI decoders or servers at a central location, as well as CDNs. It also features dual cellular modems with redundant SIM slots to support up to four different cellular providers for bandwidth bonding, data overage protection or blind spot elimination.

JVC cameras’ encoded signals are sent to the ProHD Portable Bridge via a Wi-Fi camera transceiver, which plugs directly into the camera’s USB port. The two-way signal allows camera operators to change locations and provide remote camera control and IFB audio. The system’s dual-band Wi-Fi provides two independent, high-speed networks to maximize throughput. It also can serve as a hotspot to connect mobile devices to the internet or an enterprise LAN in the field with a secure VPN; two RJ-45 connectors allow wired LAN connections as well.
