ATSC 3.0 continues its march toward acceptance as the television transmission standard in the U.S., with many products boasting of compatibility. In addition to ATSC 3.0 getting nods of approval by both the FCC and industry groups, the television repack continues apace, and that is also driving development of new products.

TRANSMITTERS

GATESAIR will highlight its Maxiva VAXTE air-cooled transmitter, for Band III and low-band VHF, with support for power levels up to 38kW. The VAXTE is driven by the XTE software-defined exciter featuring real-time adaptive correction and ATSC 3.0 capability.

HITACHI-COMARK will show its E-Compact transmitter, optimized for the US repack market in ATSC 1.0 and upgradeable to 3.0, with power output as high as 10 kW. Also on display will be the EXACT-V2 DTV exciter that allows easy migration from ATSC 1.0 to 3.0 with a simple license upgrade.

ROHDE & SCHWARZ will show the THU9evo high-power transmitter that provides broadcasters a scalable upgrade path to ATSC 3.0. The THU9evo delivers maximum energy savings even during channel changes and output power adjustment.

TEAMCAST will feature the latest version of its Vortex II exciter for ATSC 3.0, now featuring layered division multiplexing to provide greater data bandwidth for conditions with an outdoor antenna, while maintaining a robust core signal for mobile and challenging reception.

ANTENNAS

ALDENA will feature its UHF antenna line that includes broadband panel antennas (horizontal, vertical, circular, slant or elliptical polarization) and super-turnstile antennas.

ALIVE TELECOM will show its slot, panel and pylon antennas, available for both VHF and UHF applications. The company’s antennas support low-, medium-and high-power transmitters, with coax input sizes up to 6 1/8-inch.

DIELECTRIC will spotlight its TFU-WB low-cost, side-mount, UHF broadband pylon-type antenna designed for higher voltage handling capabilities that also offers 75 percent less wind-load, lower overall weight and greater cost-efficiency compared with UHF panel antennas.

RFS will show a range of antennas that are frequency- and polarization-agile, including its SBB series of wideband slot antennas and PEP Lite antennas that provide both low wind-load and allow operation on any UHF channel.

COMPONENTS

BURK TECHNOLOGY will show its Arcturus product line of RF protection components, suitable for complex RF plants that include antennas, transmission lines and RF combiner systems.

ERI will introduce a line of adjustable coaxial directional couplers that feature externally terminated sample ports and are available as 3 1/8-inch, 4 1/16-inch and 6 1/8-inch sizes with one-to-four sampling ports.

SATELLITE, MICROWAVEAND REMOTE

In the past 10 years, the growth of IP technology and cellular networks created a revolution in how signals are sent from a remote camera back to the studio. Where you once had dedicated lines (expensive), satellite feeds (expensive) and microwave links (expensive), now relatively cheap internet service or cellular wireless links can do the same with much more flexibility at a tiny fraction of the price.

We’re almost at the point where a well-equipped cell phone and a solid 4G wireless connection can do most of what it used to take a microwave truck to do. And it doesn’t require a license… or insurance.

MICROWAVE

AMT will feature the StreetNode portable LTE camera transmitter and SkyNode helicopter transmitter for its ENGenesis LTE microwave system.

BMS will discuss the MTxx24VHD unmanned COFDM microwave link that offers low-latency wireless HD video in a small, light footprint targeted at UAVs and other unmanned systems. The MTxx24VHD provides secure HD video transmission using AES encryption and H.264 compression.

IMT, which recently acquired satellite equipment manufacturer Vislink, will show its HCAM 4K HEVC camera transmitter. Targeted at broadcast, sports and event production, HCAM supports IFB audio and remote camera control.

MARSHALL ELECTRONICS and IMT will show their combined wireless video solution for live broadcasts and sporting events. The integrated bundles include one of IMT’s ultra-miniature wireless video systems (IMTDragonFly or MicroLite 2 HD COFDM wireless video transmitter), as well as a Marshall Mini-Broadcast POV camera such as the CV502.

MOSELEY will show its mobile and fixed microwave line, including the DTV Link- A STL systems. The DTV Link-A works in any microwave band from 1.5 GHz to 13 GHz and it can carry data loads as high as 155 Mbps.

VIDOVATION will demonstrate ABonAir’s AB512 radio system. Built on a bidirectional radio channel between transmitter and receiver, ABonAir’s wireless video links acknowledge the correct acceptance of each group of pixels with only a 7ms delay for applications in which latency of 2-6 frames or 30-90 ms is unacceptable.

CELLULAR

COMREX will showcase LiveShot, which delivers live, two-way HD video and audio over a range of IP networks at latencies as low as less than 200mS.

DEJERO will feature CellSat, a system that works with the company’s EnGo mobile encoder to combine cellular networks with Intelsat satellite connectivity, increasing reliability and coverage. CellSat simplifies transmission using multiple connection paths so field crews can capture live news and events with confidence.

LIVEU will highlight its flagship LU600 portable transmission solution with the HEVC Pro card. Combined with the 4K HEVC Pro card, the LU600 allows broadcasters and content creators to benefit from high video performance and bandwidth efficiency in a small package.

TVU NETWORKS will introduce TVU Timelock, which enables remote events to be produced from a control room in a separate location. With the solution, TVU transmitters can synchronize together at a set latency, allowing mobile and wireless at-home/REMI prodocutions without being tethered. Also new is the TVU Transcriber, an AI-based audio-to-text transcribing service that uses voice recognition technology. The company will also introduce improvements to its existing line of IP video workflow solutions, with enhancements to its video acquisition, transmission, production, distribution and management technologies.

IP & STREAMING

AKAMAI will showcase its liveOrigin platform, which combines broadcast-quality ingestion, low-latency, a “self-healing” network and performance monitoring/reporting to support the same level of quality for live and linear video streaming that’s expected of traditional broadcast TV. Akamai is complementing its delivery capabilities with demonstrations of its Broadcast Operations Control Center (BOCC) and its Broadcast Operations Support System (BOSS), media analytics tools that are designed to provide operational insight and telemetry from origin to viewer, offering control of and visibility into video operations and performance.

ARTEL will feature its DigiLink line of IP distribution products, including the DL4360x modular 3RU 12-slot chassis that can support multiple channels of video and Ethernet traffic.

DVEO will highlight the T-Mux IP/IP multiport multiplexer/demultiplexer that is used to combine or uncombine any number of incoming MPEG-2/H.264 IP transport streams, SPTS or MPTS.

SIGNAL TRANSPORT

BARNFIND will introduce the BTF1-41 series, the company’s first signal transport product with 12GB capacity and built-in SDI to IP. The series will use the BarnStudio control system and offer the same third-party control as the existing BarnOne 3G system.

CAMPLEX will highlight its Fiber Multiplexer and Demultiplexer series that allows a single fiber to add channels that save space and the expense of deploying new fiber. The new line is available in a choice of models offering a variety of channels and wavelengths.

COBALT DIGITAL will debut the 9414DAEO/OE-12G multichannel fiber extension cards that can transport 12G-SDI video over optical cable. The 9414DAEO/OE-12G installs in an openGear frame that can hold up to 10 cards, providing 20 channels of 12G transport.

COMREX will debut EarShot, which provides telephone-based live studio program and IFB audio to field-based remote broadcasts. Up to 30 users can listen to program or IFB feeds by calling into EarShot with a mobile phone, and EarShot can handle up to four program feeds, or two IFB feeds.

MULTIDYNE will debut the latest version of its SilverBack signal transport system: Silverback-12G, which provides a full-bandwidth fiber-optic link between two cameras and a production truck or control room. The company will also showcase the VF-9000, which addresses the growing need for higher signal density, format flexibility and operational versatility in a fiber transport frame and is available in 18- and 36-channel versions.

CABLE, FIBER & CONNECTORS

Now that production and editing in 4K is common and virtually no more expensive than HD, cables, connectors, patch panels and terminal gear is increasingly built to support uncompressed 4K transmission. If you are putting new cable and infrastructure into a facility, it makes sense to future-proof it by going the 4K route (also known as “12G”). Expect to see lots of 12G fiber and cabling solutions at the 2018 NAB Show.

CABLE

BELDEN will feature its new 4694R RG6 precision video coax designed for 4K indoor riser applications. Rated out to 12 GHz, 4694R meets SMPTE 2082-1 (12 Gbps) and SMPTE 2081-1 (6 Gbps), as well as HD-SDI.

CLARK WIRE & CABLE will show its RCC2V2A1C6HDE hybrid A/V multi-core cable with RG-6, audio and Cat-6 data strands for remote production and ENG applications.

SOMMER CABLE will highlight its composite cables for 4K and 8K, such as the Transit MC 3202 HD combo cable. The MC 3202 has three 75-Ohm coax strands, two 16A WG power strands and two balanced audio strands for digital audio.

FIBER

APANTAC will display its SFP-FIB-SDI-CONV-Tx/Rx transmitter/receiver pair that will transmit a 1080p 3G video signal up to 10 km using a ST-terminated single-mode fiber. The units provide re-clocking to ensure clean signals.

ARTEL will highlight its new InfinityLink ATSC 3.0 fiber-based transition solution that provides SDI/ASI connection from the studio to the transmitter tower. Barnfind will roll out its CAM-CCU transport solution that supports up to 18 cameras on a single fiber for bidirectional traffic over long distances.

CAMPLEX will debut a new 24-channel, small-diameter tactical fiber cable series for harsh environments where size and weight are a concern. The singlemode fiber-optic cable with polyurethane jacket can be used for temporary deployment directly on the ground in all terrains. They are available with LC, SC or ST connectors and in a variety of lengths. Camplex will also spotlight its HF-FCFF-CM-T SMPTE fiber tactical hybrid camera cables that meet SMPTE 304M and 311M standards. Terminated with Canare FCFA to FCMA connectors, the lightweight cables are designed with an abrasion-resistant polyurethane jacket targeted at temporary installation where quick retrieval and recurrent use is necessary.

GRASS VALLEY will show off its Viper family of fiber-optic connectivity product, including the Viper 1 that provides two-way video, audio, intercom and data transport.

LINK ELECTRONICS will spotlight the PFO-100-T&R, a compact 3G/HD/SD-SDI or ASI fiber optics transmission system. The unit can be ordered with either single- or multimode fiber capability, and the system a built-in equalizer, cable driver and re-clocker.

MULTIDYNE will feature its LightCube fiber-optic system that supports up to 80 HD-SDI signal paths and 225 AES audio channels. Built in a 14-inch cube, LightCube also carries Ethernet, serial data, IFB and intercom.

OPTICAL CABLE CORP. will feature its extensive line of SMPTE 311 composite cable that includes both fiber and copper strands in the same jacket.

STUDIO TECHNOLOGIES will discuss its Live-Link Mini remote camera interface system that offers one 3G-SDI path in each direction, an integrated party-line and four-wire intercom support, and line-level and powered talent cueing (IFB). The units interconnect through one single-mode fiber for quick field deployment.

SWIT ELECTRONICS will show its S-4607 bi-directional SDI optical converter, which provides a two-way HD-SDI link in a single box. The S-4607 uses single-mode fiber for distances up to 20 km.

CONNECTORS

LEMO will debut a 3GHz 75-Ohm coaxial contact that can be used in various broadcast connector configurations and combines multiple HD-SDI BNC connectors into one. It is well suited for 3x coaxial (HD), 4x coaxial (4K) and 10x coaxial (8K) applications taking multiple HD-SDI BNC type connectors into one integrated connector.

NEMAL will have its extensive line of audio, video and fiber-optic connectors on display, including multi-pin audio snake connectors such as the DT12 37-pin cable mount connector. DT12 cable-mount male connectors are available in either standard or steel-insert versions and come standard with a 6-inch strain relief.

NEUTRIK will feature its rearTwist UHD-BNC connector designed for video service up to 8K. The rearTwist UHD-BNC provides precision 75-Ohm impedance that minimizes return loss and maximizes signal flow.

SAM WOO ELECTRONICS will show its ranage of conectors, including 75-Ohm BNC connectors for all popular cable types. The company’s connectors can be specified for operating frequencies as high as 3 GHz.

ASSEMBLIES & ACCESSORIES

BITTREE will introduce the PS96DB25F audio patchbay, a front-programmable model that features 96 TT (bantam) connectors in a 2x48, 1.5RU rackmount formfactor. The PS96DB25i, a 1RU version with the same connectivity, is internally-configurable. Bittree will also show its 12G+ mini-WECO coaxial video patchbay.

CANARE will roll out its 12G-SDI video patchbay, which the company says is the first fully normalled patchbay that does not require patch cords or looping plugs to complete a 12G-SDI signal path.

SWITCHCRAFT will shine the light on its UHD video patching solutions, including the MVP32K1UHD that has mid-size/mini-WECO jacks in a 2x32 configuration that fits in a 1RU patchbay. The MVP-32K1UHD patch bay is rated to work on digital video from SD-HDI to 4K.

As the demand for storage and recording skyrockets, so do the solutions on the NAB show floor. This year attendees can expect to find cloud-based options that can address packaging and metadata delivery, multipurpose video engines that provide ingest, playout and channel origination, and even miniaturized decks that can record and play back broadcast-quality content just as well as the big guys.

CLOUD

AMAGI MEDIA LABS will show CLOUDPORT for VOD, which packages content and metadata for delivery, as well as provide automated QC, and TORNADO content preparation service for generating VOD content from a live feed in real time.

ASPERA will feature the newest version of Aspera Files, an SaaS solution designed for sharing and exchanging large files and data sets directly from cloud and on-prem storage.

AVID will demo Cloud UX MediaCentral, a task-oriented graphical user interface that runs on top of an operating system or mobile device that allows team members to collaborate remotely. The company will also show Cloud VM, which enables a user in a facility to access Media Composer software virtually using a laptop or tablet with a high-speed network connection; and Cloud Remote, which enables users to mix local and remote content in the same timeline.

AWS ELEMENTAL will highlight its cloud-based solutions for use with ingest, production, processing, delivery and networking, with a look at both appliance-based as well as hybrid workflow solutions.

PEBBLE BEACH SYSTEMS will demonstrate Beluga, which helps broadcasters transitioning to the cloud. Beluga integrates with the company’s playout automation system to prep content for linear playout, OTT and VOD distribution.

PLAYBOX TECHNOLOGY will show the latest versions of its CloudAir virtual broadcast ecosystem.

QUANTUM will debut a hybrid cloud/on-premise solution known as aiWARE for Xcellis. The hybrid solution offers cognitive analytics in areas such as object recognition, optical character recognition and transcription to extract hidden value from on-premise video and audio content.

SDVI will showcase Rally, a cloud-based platform that deploys, manages and optimizes media supply chains for on-premise and cloud infrastructures.

TELESTREAM will highlight its Telestream Cloud Services, a service portal that provides access to a number of digital media processing capabilities in a SaaS model. New features include auto-transcription and file-based quality control as well as Flip transcoding and Workflow services.

STORAGE, RECORDING AND REPLAY

360 SYSTEMS will feature the TSS 2470 II time delay server, which can alter the delay time on-the-fly and handle simple time zone shifting, commercial insertion and disaster recovery.

AVID will showcase two versions of Avid NEXIS: PRO, which can scale to 160TB, and E2, which now supports SSD drives to support multiple streams of ultra-high-resolution media in real time. Additionally, Avid NEXIS Enterprise systems now scale to 4.8 PB of raw storage.

BLACKMAGIC DESIGN will feature HyperDeck Studio Mini, a miniaturized professional deck that records and plays back broadcast-quality 10-bit video using commonly available SD and UHS-II cards; HyperDeck Studio, a rackmount broadcast deck with dual slots; Blackmagic Video assist, a storage/monitor combination that includes SD card recorders for HD or 4K recording via 7-inch and 5-inch monitor models; and UltraStudio, a Thunderbolt capture and playback solution.

CHYRONHEGO will show its CAMIO 4.4 publishing tool and LUCI5 content generation tool, as well as the next generation of LyricX 3.2, the company’s graphics creation and playout system.

CINEGY will show Cinegy Air PRO, a real-time playout server and automation system.

CONVERGENT DESIGN will showcase Apollo, which can record up to four 1080p streams and offers live switching, and the Odyssey 7+ monitor recorder with a 7.7-inch OLED monitor with 3400:1 contrast and 1280x800 resolution.

EDITSHARE will showcase its XStream EFS storage product family, including the EFS 450, a scale-out storage system that offers enterprise-class storage capabilities and can be configured from 100 TB up to 5 PB.

EVS will demo its series of live production servers, including the XT4K and XS4K servers. The XT4K offers enhanced I/O flexibility for 12G-SDI or IP, UHD-4K operations up to four channels of XAVC-4K and 10-bit HDR. The XS4K provides similar capabilities that are optimized for studio-based ingest and playback.

HARMONIC will showcase its media processing engine VOS SW Cluster, which offers playout as well as encoding, origin and packaging, and can be deployed on private/public cloud and via localized storage.

MASSTECH will show the FlashNet media object storage solution, a scalable system that can be deployed on-prem or across cloud suppliers; and MassStore, a media object framework platform that orchestrates services and workflows from multiple vendors and can manage basic media functions such as movement and search.

NEWTEK will demonstrate NewTek 3Play 3P1, a replay solution that includes NDI capability as well as 3G SDI input, cross conversion and output. A dual-channel telestration feature allows talent to draw over live video. The company will also show the latest version of the NVG1, the NewTek-Vizrt IP graphics server for delivering real-time animated 3D graphics in resolutions up to 4K.

NVERZION will highlight NFinity, a four-channel broadcast video server designed for broadcast, university, house of worship or production applications.

PRIMESTREAM will introduce new updates to its core technologies to ingest IP sources into single or multiple self-contained file formats and transcode into ProRes, XDCAM, DNxHD, AVC-Intra and H.264, then move that content through to production, management and delivery. Also new is a SaaS review and approval system that can be integrated with existing Xchange systems, or can include a small on-site version of Xchange. The company will also debut an update to its 4K/UHD workflow with support for HDR pass-through, live preview and proxy generation and comprehensive Xchange Public APIs with signatures and client access keys, allowing customers to extend IMF workflow in conjunction with third-party applications.

PLAYBOX TECHNOLOGY will show the latest versions of its server-based Neo IP/SDI playout solutions.

QUANTUM will showcase the Xcellis scaleout NAS storage platform. Also on display is the entry-level Xcellis Foundation storage system, targeted toward small- to medium-sized postproduction facilities and corporate video departments.

ROHDE & SCHWARZ will show the newest generation of the R&S VENICE media server. Offering interoperability with third-party equipment, the media processing and playout platform bridges hybrid SDI and IP broadcast infrastructures. The company will also show the newest version of the R&S CLIPSTER mastering and distribution system.

SUITCASETV plans to show its Iphrame Flyaway ++ for the first time at the NAB show. This remote production technology solution has the ability to handle IP, ASI and SDI signals in a physical or cloud environment. The company may also show Clipper, its continuous recording solution designed for compliance obligation or content storage.

TELESTREAM will be on hand with Light-speed Live Capture, a scalable IP and baseband capture solution that serves as an entry-point ingest solution for live media.

VIDEO CLARITY will show its Venue Player with 4K or 2K capability, and ClearView Player IP, a server with record and playback functions for uncompressed video that can record one channel and play back up to two channels of uncompressed video programming.

VIDEO DEVICES, a brand of Sound Devices, LLC, will show the newest version of its PIX-E Series line of recording field monitors. Features include Apple ProRes and H.264 recording capabilities, a capacitive touchscreen, 500 nits of brightness and a nearly 180-degree angle of view.

VITEC will be at the show with its House of Worship Streaming Solution. Integrated with its Renewed Vision ProVideoServer, the solution allows churches to easily record one or more high-quality encoded streams from a main campus, embed time code and multichannel audio and playback those streams at the satellite campus at any time.

EDITING

Production professionals looking to master their craft require editing solutions that are not only nimble and versatile but are able to bend the possibilities of “what’s next” in editing. The tools found on the floor of the Las Vegas Convention Center during the NAB Show are expected to address those feats, as well as offer features like multi-user draft sequences, data mirroring, audio sweetening and more.

ADOBE

will demonstrate how its suite of Adobe desktop and mobile tools operate in Creative Cloud. The solutions on display will include options for graphics, titling, color and asset sharing within Premiere Pro CC, After Effects CC, Audition CC, Character Animator CC, Adobe Stock CC and Adobe Primetime CC.

ARVATO SYSTEMS will demo EditMate, which offers a collaborative editing capability through its production asset management system for multiple users separated by geography.

AVID will show a new panel for Media Composer within its MediaCentral production suite. The panel offers users an integrated MediaCentral panel within the Media Composer user interface, enabling users to see media outside of their active project as well as draft and drop assets from MediaCentral into any Media Composer project, bin or sequence.

BLACKMAGIC DESIGN will demo new tools for the DaVinci Resolve 14 package, including a new playback engine; new automatic facial recognition features as part of the Resolve FX color option; new multi-user collaboration tools; and for the first time, a new audio component: new Fairlight audio post tools for recording, editing, mixing and sweeting master sound.

EVERTZ’ DC-LIVE-EDIT NLE can craft audio/video edits in-line on the original live record, allowing operators to distribute finished packages without long render times.

GRASS VALLEY will debut the latest version of its EDIUS video editing software, EDIUS Pro 9. The company will also highlight its new collaboration with Fairlight on its EDIUS 8.1 video editing software. Features include two new hardware control surfaces that incorporate Fairlight’s PYXIS video editing and mixing controllers into the EDIUS platform.

VSN will show WEDIT, a web-based video editing tool that integrates with the media processing management product VSNEXPLORER. It allows users to edit sequences by cut, to generate cut lists, to mark-in and markout segments with proxy frame accuracy and to edit from the interfaces timeline.

GRAPHICS

An explosion of choices—that’s the best way to explain the number and type of graphics creation technologies expected at the NAB Show. This year, attendees can expect to see 3D modeling and rendering solutions, high-end virtual set creations, fly-through map creation tool sets, augmented graphics and more painting and roto-scoping than a dozen digitally designed raptors could chase after.

AUTODESK will showcase solutions like Maya, its 3D animation, modeling and rendering solution and Arnold, the company’s illumination rendering system.

AVID will bring its suite of graphics tools to NAB, including Maestro | News on-air graphics suite; Maestro | Designer, a 2D/3D animated graphics creation system; Maestro | Virtual Set, which can be used to create high-end virtual environments; WorldMapper, a map creation toolset; and Maestro | AR, which allows for creation of 3D graphical objects.

AXEL TECHNOLOGY plans to showcase CG Live, a titling and CG solution that features animated backgrounds, movements and character and text effects.

BLACKMAGIC DESIGN will demo Fusion 9 Studio, a 2D and 3D compositing, VR and motion graphics software solution that offers paint, rotoscope, titling, animation and keying.

BORIS FX will showcase Mocha VR, which offers stereo 360-degree support for Adobe Immersive Video. The newest release (v5.6) adds a new workflow option allowing for stereo optimized planar tracking, masking, horizon stabilization and object-removal tools.

BRAINSTORM will showcase its InfinitySet all-in-one virtual set and 3D graphics solution, the Aston motion graphics creation/CG/playout system and SmartSet template-based playout solution that offers virtual set and augmented reality applications.

CHYRONHEGO will unveil PRIME 3.0, the newest version of its all-software graphics rendering engine, which includes integration with the CAMIO Universe graphics asset management system. Also new is the latest version of Live Compositor, which will be at the heart of a new all-software-based live studio production that the company will host at its booth. The live studio show will include virtual set and augmented graphics technology into a live presentation running via the all-software production workflow. The company will also show the Metacast weather graphics system; Click Effects PRIME, a graphics-authoring solution for live arena and stadium AV presentations; NewsTicker 5 branding solution; v7.4 of its Paint telestration and analysis solution with 4K support; Virtual Placement product line, which also includes support for 4K; and LyricX 3.2 graphics creation and playout solution.

CRYSTAL VISION plans to show its Safire 3 real-time SDI chroma keyer, which includes lighting compensation, color correction, framestore synchronizers and video delay. New features include enhanced control panel for improved live operation and color spill improvements.

DELTACAST SPORTS GRAPHICS plans to showcase virtual graphics creation systems such as DELTA-live, a CG that can also create augmented sequences for game analysis; DELTA-touch, an interactive graphics presentation tool; and DELTA-stat, a real-time graphics generation system for live sport broadcasts.

MAXON will show new features in its Cinema 4D Release 19, a 3D animation, graphics, VFX, visualization and rendering software application. The update offers support for Apple’s API Metal 2, and improvements to the rendering functionality in the Radeon ProRender.

NEWBLUEFX will feature Titler Live 3 Broadcast, which offers remote operation from a secondary machine, advanced playout actions and live updates, instant title search and native 4K resolution. Companion solutions include Titler Live 3 Sport and Titler Live Complete, which combines the company’s social media and sport programs into one.

PIXEL POWER will demonstrate its Clarity Graphics system, which offers CG, stillstore, video and audio clips, 2D/3D DVE and a downstream keyer in a single device. It will also show its BrandMaster branding switcher and graphics playout system.

RT SOFTWARE plans to showcase its tOG-VR virtual reality and augmented studio solution as well as its tOG 3D/2D graphics overlay solution.

VENTUZ TECHNOLOGY will show a suite of solutions for authoring and displaying real-time interactive graphics. Solutions include Ventuz Designer, a creation and authoring application that addresses animation, compositing and design. Also on tap: Ventuz VR capability.

VIZRT will showcase Viz Libero, a 3D virtual sports creation and analysis system that integrates with the company’s Viz Artist and Viz Engine solutions to create customized graphics.

WTVISION will showcase the newest version of Elections CG, a real-time graphics production for election night broadcasts. It imports data from multiple sources and can create realtime graphics in different formats: full-screen graphics, tickers or overlay graphics. The company will also show Studio CG, a solution that controls graphic engines.

FURNITURE

FORECAST CONSOLES will introduce removeable, interchangeable turrets and options for its GCX and GCX-S product line. The S line offers electronic height adjustability at the touch of a button.

TBC CONSOLES will launch a new style of the company’s traditional full-base cabinet ControlTrac and IntelliTrac product lines designed to reduce equipment in the base structure under each operator while allowing for a variety of turrets for rack-mounted equipment above the countertop. The consoles are completely customizable and modular and include a rear aluminum trac for mounting a variety of accessories including articulating monitor arms. Also new is a height-adjustable SmartTrac Suite that includes an independently height-adjustable producer table, as well as a specialized TracWall v2 without base cabinets.

Look around and you’ll see there’s been a real revolution in the way television is done. The all-IP television plant is now a reality, along with virtualization of broadcast equipment, cloud storage and operations, UHD, HDR, ECG and more. Regardless of the methodologies used in capturing, storing, editing and playout, there’s one thing that hasn’t changed—technology for adjustment of signal levels, color correction, format changes and other manipulations to produce better and more pleasing content for the consumer.

EAS/CAP

DIGITAL ALERT SYSTEMS will debut the EAS-NET Advanced Emergency Alerting (AEA) upgrade for DASDEC, enabling urgent communications between broadcasters and their audiences via text graphics and audio, providing a more interactive way to convey emergency messages. Also look for the HALO (Homogenous Alert Overseer), a web-based tool that allows users to inspect the health of multiple EAS devices, alert personnel to changes, update software and consolidate FCC-mandated test results.

NVERZION will show their NFinity Plus package for the company’s automation system. It includes an EAS interface, enhanced graphics package and more.

CLOSED CAPTIONING

COMPROMPTER will showcase Caption Central Multi-Gen 2, which accommodates the voices of as many as eight speakers, sending the name/title of each along with the speech-to-text conversion.

EEG ENTERPRISES will introduce new enhancements to its Lexi automatic captioning “Topic Model” technology that recognizes topics and context to provide enhanced accuracy in speech-to-text conversion.

ENCO will showcase enCaption4, with a new speech-to-text engine that enhances accuracy and speed, while offering flexible on-premises or cloud-based deployment options. enCaption4 is available as an on-premises system or as a cloud-based solution running on Amazon Web Services.

LINK ELECTRONICS will premier their ACE-2200 automated captioning engine for converting speech into data for encoding via a TS-232 port or TCP/IP.

TELESTREAM will demonstrate their Wirecast live captioning and re-streaming service. It’s available as an option for any Wirecast streaming system and allows users to stream to multiple destinations from a single upload at the broadcast origination point.

TIGHTROPE MEDIA SYSTEMS will show v6.4 of their Cablecast Community Media platform, which includes closed captioning support for online video-on-demand clips and live streams.

VOICE INTERACTION will feature Audimus Media, which produces closed captioning support for online VOD clips and live streams.

ENCODERS/DECODERS

APERI will unveil its suite of 2022 gateway and standard codecs, including H.264 and JPEG2000 versions.

AVIWEST will demonstrate its hardware-implemented H.265/HEVC HE4000 HD video encoder that accommodates one 4K channel, or up to four simultaneous HD feeds. The company will also feature its MojoPro series of mobile applications (iOS, macOS and Android), for live streaming of files via bonded cellular connections. Booth visitors will also want to check out the StreamHub transceiver, which handles 4K, is H.265/HEVC-compliant, accomodates up to 16 incoming streams and provides a receiver, decoder and distribution platform in one package.

COBALT DIGITAL will feature their 9992-ENC-HEVC multichannel MPEG-2/AVC/HEVC broadcast encoder, which sports a very high compression efficiency, and is also MPEG-2/MPEG-4/AVC-capable.

HITACHI-COMARK will feature their future-proof Titan software-based encoding technology that supports all resolutions from SD to 4K, as well as any codec, including MPEG-2, H.264, and HEVC.

TELESTREAM will launch the latest version of its Lightspeed Live stream live encoder, which now supports HDR and CMAF packaging, as well as live caption encoding.

TMD will debut the Fidelity encoder, which can create frame-accurate video for viewing in any web browser as soon as recording starts. Features include standard indexing of timed text.

VITEC  will showcase the MGW Diamond Tough military-grade HEVC and H.264 four-channel unit that delivers IP video from SDI sources and is designed for mobile platforms. There’s also the MGW Ace 4:2:2 HEVC portable encoder/decoder that also provides H.264 encoding for legacy applications and features error correction and low power consumption.

PROCESSING AND CONVERSION

AJA will spotlight v2.0 software for its FS-HDR converter/frame synchronizer, providing parametric controls for adjusting the look of final transforms and also adds support for Sony’s S-Log3 Gamut3 Cine and S-Log3 BT.2020 camera formats.

ANEVIA will feature their low-latency end-to-end delivery system, which provides all tools for delivering OTT service.

APERI plans to show a number of hardware and software products, including the V-Stack third-generation virtualization product with expanded functionality in handling multiple processes, including logging and monitoring. Booth visitors will also want to check out Aperi’s SMPTE 2110 Nat-firewall app, which supports 128 bidirectional flows of content per microserver. The company will also show its new TICO 4K compression app.

APPEAR TV will showcase their Live OTT Transcoder software product. It allows broadcasters to deliver high-quality multiscreen content with commercial off-the-shelf hardware, and features frame rate conversion, de-interlacing, logo insertion capability, as well as adjustment of delivery speed versus quality level.

ATEME will feature their Titan codec, which provides AV1 support, as well as CMAF (fMP4) on Apple devices.

AXEL TECHNOLOGY will showcase their PC-based multiple channel Multi Cross Converter that simultaneously inputs and outputs SDI, NDI or IP with selectable output resolutions and framerates.

BARNFIND TECHNOLOGIES will show the BTF1-41 series of 4K optical duplex transceivers with reclocking capability. Booth visitors will also want to check out BarnOne with Web Server and control via Telnet, a new web interface that enables installation, configuration and operation of one or more BarnOne card frames.

COBALT DIGITAL will spotlight their 9904-UDX-4K 12G-SDI UHD up/down/cross converter that provides quad 3GSDI and 12G-SDI I/O, along with SDI muxing/de-muxing, and can optionally handle SDR-to-HDR upmapping and other functions.

EVERTZ will spotlight evEDGE, a virtualized IP-based media platform that supports a variety of processing and conversion functions. Also look for the 570iTXE video delivery platform that handles receiving and decoding of content, as well as normalizing and multiple encoding (H.264 and JPEG-2000) of streams within a facility.

GRASS VALLEY will roll out their UHD- 3901-UC dual-channel HD/3G to 4K UHD upconverter with a high-quality scaler, motion adaptive de-interlacer and color space conversion.

HARMONIC will demo their VOS Software SW Cluster media processing technology that provides encoding, playout, packaging for all types of deployment including private and public cloud.

IMAGINE COMMUNICATIONS will demonstrate their all-IP-capable Selenio Network Processor which handles uncompressed UHD signals based on SMPTE’s 2110 spec and provides both IP-to-IP processing and also serves as an SDI-to-IP gateway.

LAWO will feature its V_matrix software-defined processing and routing platform based on high-capacity commercial off-the-shelf computing technology. It provides a seamless migration from SDI to IP and features multilayer signal, control, networking and hardware redundancy.

NEVION will spotlight its IP media transport and processing technologies, which accommodate 4K encoding/decoding (TICO and J2K) across IP LANs and WANs.

TELESTREAM will show its Vantage Platform, which supports UHD, HDR and IMF, and handles ingestion, editing, transcoding, packaging functions and more.

MULTIVIEWERS

COBALT DIGITAL will roll out their 9971-MV18-4K 12G-SDI 18-input UHD multiviewer, featuring a modular design that allows expansion to match users’ needs and provides a 3840x2160 raster output.

DVEO will take the wraps off their DVBASI O Mon HD ASI/4 quad display and transport stream analyzer. It displays four streams simultaneously and also provides signal analysis and alarms.

IMAGINE COMMUNICATIONS will show their EPIC software-based multiviewer that accommodates all types of video and helps provide a seamless transition to IP.

LAWO will demonstrate multiviwer functionality for SDI and IP video sources within their V_Matrix IP-routing and processing platform.

UTAH SCIENTIFIC will demonstrate the SynView 4k and IP multiviewer for the company’s 400 Series hybrid router product. The SynView technology from Axon features single field latency and external looping to accommodate a large number of input channels.

COLOR CORRECTION

AJA will debut v2.0 software for its FS-HDR processor, which includes 12 new controls for color correction, including red, green, blue and master adjustments for lift, gain and gamma, as well as one for saturation and two for input formats.

TEST & MEASUREMENT

Many of the functions now performed by modern test equipment were not needed in analog days. And as equipment designers get comfortable with the new measurement norms, they will find ways to extract more interesting information from the existing signals.

VIDEO & AUDIO

BLACKMAGIC DESIGN will feature its SmartScope Duo 4K dual-screen monitor that has two independent 8-inch displays in a 3RU design that’s less than 1 inch deep. SmartScope Duo 4K lets you select among waveform, vectorscope, RGB parade, YUV parade, histogram and audio phase with audio level displays.

LEADER will show its LV5333 waveform/vector display, which now has an option to monitor high dynamic range and hybrid log gamma HD video.

MARSHALL ELECTRONICS will spotlight its DLWR-3G compact video analysis engine that works with any DVI-D or HDMI display. Features of the DLWR- 3G include on-screen video waveform and vectorscope, 16-channel audio level metering, closed-captioning decode (608/708) and timecode display, as well as audio de-embedding.

OMNITEK will feature its Ultra 4K Tool Box that provides conversion, generation and analysis of TV and Digital Cinema signals in formats up to 4096x2160/60. The Ultra 4K Tool Box allows conversion among formats, while SDI eye and jitter analysis features enables troubleshooting sources of signal error in signal paths up to 4K/60 on 12G-SDI single links.

QLIGENT will highlight its Vision A/V LipSync Detection software that provides an automated way to spot sync problems that may have occurred anywhere in the distribution domain. A new feature compares the audio portion of downstream video with its original “known good reference” to determine if the A/V is in sync or not.

PHABRIX will be at the show with its Qx 12G 4K video rasterizer that offers 12GSDI physical layer testing, the company’s “Real-time Eye” technology that highlights any SMPTE compliance issues, including eye under/overshoot.

ROHDE & SCHWARZ will demonstrate the latest enhancements and refinements to its ETL TV analyser, including support for HEVC and resolutions up to UHD. Also, the R&S ETL contains generators to create analog video signals, audio signals and MPEG-2 transport streams.

STREAMING

TEKTRONIX will spotlight SMPTE 2110 support for its PRISM real-time streaming analyzer that focuses on hybrid IP/SDI facility operations and maintenance. The company will also introduce new low-cost upgradeable signal generation capabilities for PRISM that will give customers more confidence when testing IP and 12G-SDI for hybrid.SDI networks. The company will also show its Sentry test set, now compatible with Amazon Web Services.

DVEO will feature its Q Mon HD ASI/4 DVB-ASI quad display and transport stream analyzer that provides comprehensive ETR 290 1/2/3 TS analysis, error logging and alarms, and transport stream recording.

NEVION will spotlight the Virtuoso TNS4200, a hardware tool for continuous monitoring of broadcast streams and signals monitors streams on IP/Ethernet and DVB-ASI.

TELESTREAM will highlight its IneoQuest IQ streaming analysis system that can measure video quality from the source, at the video player and at key points in between.

SENCORE will show the CMA 1820, a media analyzer for compressed video formats, including H.264 and HEVC.

VERIZON DIGITAL MEDIA SERVICES will feature its monitoring services using Volicon Observer functions for Verizon’s streaming suppliers. These functions include monitoring and compliance services that look at streams in real time to log errors and ensure the streams meet applicable standards.

RF AND MPEG

HITACHI-COMARK will display the QoS-1000 & QoS-1000RT ATSC monitoring systems, which can monitor the performance of any ATSC 1.0 transmitter or repeater site. Both models can be upgraded for ATSC 3.0.

TRIVENI DIGITAL will introduce StreamScope Portal II, which simplifies troubleshooting of DTV transport streams through its two-in-one hardware platform design, high-res touchscreen interface, advanced RF spectrum analysis capabilities, rules-based troubleshooting and ultraportability factor. The StreamScope Portal II can be upgraded with professional ATSC 3.0 analysis capability via StreamScope XM MT software. The company will also demo StreamScope MT-60 MPEG Analyzer with advanced RF capabilities that support RF input analysis.

TORQUE VIDEO SYSTEMS will show DVMon QAM, which provides integrated RF and MPEG-TS Quality-of-Service monitoring using two RF inputs with built-in demodulation and RF signal analysis, as well as two independent ASI output ports for monitoring.

MONITORS

What matters most to a production team when it comes to a monitor? Brightness? Small size? An easy-to-manipulate touchscreen? Those looking for an expanded range of preferences should be able to find them at this year’s NAB Show, from capacitive touchscreens, ultra-wide viewing angles and monitors that won’t strain the peepers as you view video outside under the glaring bright sun.

AEQ will show the LM9055 4K resolution broadcast monitors, available in 24 and 31 inches. The monitor series has recently been expanded to include a 55-inch monitor.

BOLAND COMMUNICATIONS will show the Value 4K monitor series with built-in quad multiviewer, a series of 2K/4K Series monitors, and the small format HD SDI series of monitors.

DENSITRON will showcase an 8-inch IPS TFT display that is available with a capacitive touchscreen option that offers 1600x480 resolution. The company will also show smaller models, including the 2.4-inch and 5-inch TVTs that include ultra-wide viewing angles, high contrast ratio IPS panels and sunlight-readable TFT displays.

JVCKENWOOD will feature the DT-X93HX2 ProHD dual 9-inch rack display monitor, which offers two 9-inch in-plane switching LCD panels with full HD resolution, LED backlight, 800:1 contrast and a wide viewing angle.

PLURA BROADCAST will showcase the SFP-217 IP Series, a field-upgradable 17-inch broadcast monitor with direct 3Gbps BNC I/O connectivity and coaxial SFP I/O connectivity. A larger model, the 21-inch SFP-221-IP, is a 1920x1080 resolution model with similar features. Add to that the 24-inch SFP-224-IP, with 1920x1200 resolution and optional PIPM.

SMALLHD will launch the 502 Bright, a new 5-inch bright daylight viewable monitor that features 1920x1080 resolution, 100 nits brightness, 441 pixels per inch, a machined aluminum chassis and a 9W power draw in a 9.4-ounce package. Also on display will be the 703703 Bolt director’s monitor, which offers a 7-inch HD color display with a built-in Teradek wireless receiver that allows the user to wander the set or location up to 300 feet. It features a 3000- nit display that is viewable in direct sunlight. An even smaller model—the FOCUS OLED 5-inch monitor, combines a 1920x1080p resolution, 350 nit screen with the wide color gamut of OLED technology.

SONY will highlight its PVM-X550, a 55-inch OLED display with 12-bit signal processing. The quad-view monitor allows customized individual display settings across four distinct views in HD. Sony will also have its flagship BVMX300 30-inch, 4K, OLED master monitor on display.

TRANSVIDEO will feature the Stargate FHD, a 7-inch HD monitor with built-in recorder.

TV LOGIC will show the 31.1-inch LUM-313G, a native 4K resolution (4096x2160) monitor that supports formats up to 4K/60p through single-link 12G-SDI, Quad 3G-SDI and HDMI 2.0. A second 31.1-inch model—the LUM-318G—is also a native 4K resolution monitor with maximum luminance of 850 nits, while the 43-inch LUM- 430M is a UHD/4K monitor with 3840x2160 UHC resolution, 10-bit driver and DCI-P3 color gamut support. Also new is the LEM-550M, a QC-grade HDR monitor for broadcast and post production with a 55-inch OLED panel with UHD resolution of 3840x2160. The company will also show the LVM-171S/ 241S monitors in17-inch and 24-inch models, featuring an IPS LCD panel, wide-gamut reproduction, enhanced contrast ratio and wide viewing angle.

WOHLER TECHNOLOGIES will feature the latest update to the iAM-VIDEO-2 monitor, adding MPEG2/H.264 in MPEG-2 transport stream-over-IP capability and a new responsive-touch interface that includes a streamlined UI.

Major shifts in the means of broadcasting— as well as what that term actually means going forward—are accelerating us down the IP highway and into the cloud. A Broadway show lyric seems apropos: “There are times I am not sure of what I absolutely know... very often find confusion in conclusion I concluded long ago” (“A Puzzlement” from “The King and I”). Challenging times indeed for manufacturers, next-gen technology decision-makers, and content consumers alike.

MASTER CONTROL AUTOMATION & CHANNEL PLAYOUT

ACTUS DIGITAL will showcase Clip-Factory-Pro, sporting video editing functions, such as blurring, muting, pre/post rolls, Ads removal and more. Clip-Factory-Pro also comes with a new set of metadata generating tools that can integrate to As- RunLog, automation and Ads insertion systems in view of a fully automated workflow from Linear to OTT.

AVECO will highlight Redwood Blue, a multipurpose channel origination engine with up to four channels of ingest and/or playout per chassis and services including graphics, DVEs, live switching, and audio processing.

BITCENTRAL will unveil performance enhancements to Central Control, its scalable play-to-air automation, including new multichannel environment modes, improved Time Delay functionality, and additional workflow support in the Management module.

CRISPIN will debut a master control in the cloud solution with interfaces and controls for OTT and IP streaming. Enhancements to LoadingDock include the ability to streamline content acquisition, preparation, and scalability for multistation distribution that enable operators to pull or upload cloud content, prep files, view lo-rez clips, and manage media status.

ENCO will introduce a new ClipBoard control interface for its playout and TV/radio automation systems. Media Operations Manager (MOM) enhancements include live inputs for cut-ins without an external switcher and support for its browser-based enCloud remote production control applications.

FLORICAL will launch FeniX, an integrated playout solution powered by Harmonic technology and Florical’s enterprise automation suite. It offers SDI and IP options, plus master control switching, branding, and DVE effects.

GRASS VALLEY will showcase iTX Flex, a cost-effective SaaS playout solution using “True Cloud Architectures” to leverage proven iTX and GV Cloud Orchestration technologies.

HARMONIC will debut VOS SW (Software) Cluster Media Processing, a comprehensive suite embedding the company’s best-of-breed encoding, playout, origination, and packaging applications.

IMAGINE COMMUNICATIONS returns with an enhanced Versio Platform, a cloud-native, microservices-based, modular playout solution designed for pure-IP, geo-dispersed environments using commercial-off-the-shelf [COTS] hardware.

PEBBLE BEACH has added NDI confidence monitoring to Orca, a software-defined, virtualized IP channel solution optimized for cloud deployment of high value channels. Also at their booth will be the Dolphin channel-in-a-box system, offering graphics plug-ins and live captioning capabilities.

PIXEL POWER has added NewTek’s NDI protocol to its StreamMaster integrated playout platform. NDI enables generation and monitoring of low latency proxies, letting operators view multiple output buses from within the Pixel Power Gallium Automation interface or a third-party multiviewer.

ROSS VIDEO will introduce a broadcast production and newsroom control bundle that combines OverDrive Express automation with its Graphite switcher, 3-D graphics, and a two-channel clip-server.

RUSHWORKS will introduce A-LIST Streamster, an IP-only edition of its broadcast automation system tailored for OTT content management and distribution.

NEWSROOM SYSTEMS & WORKFLOWS

BITCENTRAL will debut MultiPath, an Oasis media asset management module. Its intuitively structured interface complements the company’s integrated newsroom suite with an overview of the media publishing process for targeting and simultaneous content delivery to websites, apps, social media, and syndication.

DALET will unveil Content Discovery module, a core functionality within its Unified News Operation that presents relevant/related media to journalists and content producers as they develop news stories, thereby enriching narratives with expanded data and detail.

GRASS VALLEY has added a new web client and support of the GV I/O appliance to GV STRATUS 6.0 to enable complete virtualization.

ENCO will spotlight a MOS interface for ENPS, iNews and Octopus newsroom systems, plus NewTek NDI support within its Media Operations Manager (MOM) automation.

TRAFFIC, BUSINESS & RIGHTS MANAGEMENT

BROADVIEW SOFTWARE will showcase v8.0 of its On Demand management tools supporting a wide range of multiplatform services.

IMAGINE COMMUNICATIONS will reprise xG GamePlan, inventory optimization tools to help deliver target audiences with a minimum of commercial airtime.

MYERS will debut options for ProTrack, its management system for broadcast networks, affiliates, and independent media outlets. ProTrack HUB supports Network Operations Centers, integrating tightly with centralized master controls and their distribution to client stations. ProTrack MAM makes file-based media visible to programming and traffic teams.

ARCHIVE & MEDIA ASSET MANAGEMENT SOLUTIONS

AVID will introduce Media- Central | Asset Management to speed finding assets, streamline content delivery across any platform, and create new revenue opportunities.

DALET will feature AI-enhanced media workflow prototypes to help organizations capitalize on opportunities via intelligent auto-tagging, augmented production workflows with contextual recommendations, more advanced task and process automation, and adaptive scaling to leverage powerful predictive analytics.

EVERTZ will feature Mediator-X, a cloud-enabled media asset management platform that helps media companies monetize content and lower operating costs.

MASSTECH will highlight its efficient FlashNet media object storage application and MassStore media services framework for media and storage management on-premises, the cloud, or in hybrid configurations.

PRIME FOCUS TECHNOLOGIES will unveil AI-enabled MAM and subtitling tools for its CLEAR Media ERP range. Capabilities include facial detection, speech-to-text, and location/brand recognition to enrich content metadata and aid content discovery.

TEDIAL is introducing SMART Live, designed for sports and live events. Its metadata engine automatically generates metadata ingest processes to address complex sporting event workflows, creating clips based on actions, keywords or logged occurrences; video and audio recognition can generate additional locator data and annotate the media proxies.

TELESTREAM will add end-to-end Adaptive Bitrate and a new workflow to its iQ Quality Assurance solution, reducing issue report to resolution times.

TMD will unveil an integration between its Mediaflex-UMS workflow engine and Avid’s Interplay, enabling users to select content, master clips, or sequences and initiate actions to archive or distribute media.

VERIZON DIGITAL MEDIA SERVICES will bring enhancements to its Volicon Media Intelligence, Media Xperience Studio; Uplynk Video Streaming, and Edgecast Content Delivery Network service offerings.

SWITCHERS AND ROUTING

When it comes to switching and routing, new solutions on the NAB 2018 show floor are offering more inputs, more DVEs and expanded capabilities such as 4K and IP connectivity. Popular this year: customization and the ability to handling multiple formats and functionalities often in a smaller footprint.

BLACKMAGIC DESIGN will show the ATEM 4 M/E high frame-rate Ultra HD 2160p60 switcher, a 4K switcher with 20 inputs, 4 MEs, 16 ATEM advanced chroma keyers, two Ultra HD multi viewers, full 2D DVEs, and built-in compositing engines with four picture-in-picture DVEs. A smaller version of the ATEM will also be on the floor in the form of the ATEM 1 M/E Advanced Panel, a compact hardware control panel designed to work with all ATEM switchers.

BROADCAST PIX will show the BPswitch family of integrated production switchers, which include control-over-IP capabilities. Features include NewBlueNTX 3D motion graphics, clip stores, customizable multiview and device control.

EVS will demo the DYVI IT-based switching solution, which offers distributed live production and new scalability features.

FOR-A will unveil the HVS-6000 12GSDI video switcher, with support for 4K and scalability for users looking to transition to 8K in the future. The company will also introduce a system package that includes the HVS-490 video switcher, MFR-3000 routing switcher, MV-4200 multiviewer and ClassX suite of graphics solutions.

GRASS VALLEY will feature GV K-Frame X, a new processing engine that supports SDI, IP or hybrid SDI/IP configurations. The switcher offers an I/O footprint of 192x96, supports TICO compression or uncompressed SMPTE ST 2110 4K along with HDR, and connects to any Grass Valley panel.

JLCOOPER ELECTRONICS will feature its ION compact broadcast switcher panel control surface, designed for fast video switching in a live production environment such as mobile, sports, educational or house of worship.

NEWTEK will highlight the TriCaster TC1 production system, offering switching as well as streaming and recording in HD, 3G and 4K UHD 60p. Features include 16 external inputs and 4 MEs as well as an integrated video server for playback, replay and live editing.

PANASONIC plans to showcase the AVHLC100, a combination solution that pulls together a 1ME switcher, PTZ camera controller and audio mixer in a single device.

PIXEL POWER will demo the BrandMaster branding switcher and graphics playout system.

ROSS VIDEO will show the 12G Multi-Processing Input Module for Acuity, a 20-input card that adds single-link 12G connectivity and provides independent input signal management functions. The company will also bring its range of switcher options, including the Carbonite Black Solo single ME switcher, Graphite all-in-one production system and Carbonite midsize switcher.

RUSHWORKS will showcase its VDESK radio/TV production system, a multifunction integrated production system.

ROUTING

BARNFIND will feature BarnOne with Web Server, which offers a new web interface for configuration and operation of BarnOne frames; and new 4K Products as part of the BTF1-41 series.

FOR-A will introduce a system package that includes the MFR-3000 routing switcher that includes a HVS-490 video switcher, MV-4200 multiviewer and ClassX suite of graphics solutions.

GRASS VALLEY will show the latest in router control and configuration with GV Convergent, an IP/SDI router control/configuration system that works with both COTS switches and IP-enabled endpoint equipment to manage facility routing as the industry migrates from SDI to IP.

IMAGINE COMMUNICATIONS will showcase Platinum IP3, a 28 RU device that offers hybrid IP connectivity and offers mixed-format video and audio routing, multiviewer functionality, frame sync and advanced I/O options.

ROSS VIDEO will showcase Ultrix-FR5, a 5RU, 144 x 144 version of the Ultrix routing/AV processing platform.

UTAH SCIENTIFIC will debut updates to the 400 Series, a hybrid digital router designed to accommodate IP signals along with high-density SDI. The company will also show the UHD-12G 12G digital routing switcher which enables distribution of a full range of SDI video signals, from SD data rates up to 2160p60 in a single-link interconnect.

KVM SWITCHES

ADDER will feature the ADDERLink INFINITY 100T, an IP-based KVM transmitter that uses standard network infrastructure to extend and matrix computers away from the user environment.

BLACKBOX will showcase solutions that include its control room KVM options such as the InvisaPC, an IP-based KVM solution that offers access to physical and virtual servers and the DCX digital KVM matrix solution.

G&D NORTH AMERICA will introduce a new KVM-over-IP matrix system, as well as the DP1.2-Vision KVM extender system for 4K, which uses in-house HDIP compression technology and is compatible with G&D’s digital matrices and allows the extension, switching and distribution of 4K video signals through matrix systems. Also on display: the DP1.2-VisionXG, a high-end KVM extender system that extends computer signals up to 10,000 meters over fiber.

IHSE will show the 491 Series for extending HDMI signals; 496 Series SDI/KVM extender series, which converts 3G/SDI signals for sharing serial digital video with Draco tera KVM matrix switches; 494 Series DVI-I, which can interface with other Draco ultra extenders; 444 Series, which allows users to connect a keyboard, mouse and keypad as a single HID device to a KVM system through USB with an additional HID extension, and the OPS+ KVM extender, which is designed to simplify the installation, operation and management of remove displays.

THINKLOGICAL will showcase TLX, an uncompressed 4K/8K KVM solution that delivers extension and switching of KVM and uncompressed 4K DCI video (4096x2160 resolution, 4:4:4 color depth, 30 bits per pixel) at 60Hz frame rate with any-to-any matrix switching. The company will also show its new Virtual Machine Integrated Client Modules.

New product introductions at the NAB Show will embrace immersive audio formats and the newly standardized audio networking protocols. Attendees can expect to see numerous digital audio distribution, remote contribution and intercom systems this year.

AUDIO MIXERS & INTERFACES

DPA MICROPHONES’ new d:vice is a two-channel mic preamp and A/D converter offering mono, dual and stereo capabilities and has interchangeable Lightning and USB cables for connectivity.

JÜNGER AUDIO will introduce its MMA (Multichannel Monitoring and Authoring) system for immersive audio live production, with metadata authoring and qualification of audio objects for ATSC 3.0 audio formats, and with real time monitor and legacy format rendering.

LOGITEK will feature its Helix TV audio console, Helix Studio virtual audio console and Pilot audio console.

SOLID STATE LOGIC will debut new “appified” System T v2.0 software, which includes native immersive audio support. SSL’s System T S300-32 is a compact control surface with fixed 32+1 fader configuration that can be combined with the complete portfolio of SSL’s System T control, processing and I/O options.

SONIFEX will show the new AVN-PXH12 12x2-channel mixer monitor, which can simultaneously monitor/mix up to 24 AES67 AoIP sources in a compact 1U rack. The AVN-PA8 is a multichannel mix engine with analog line and AES67 I/O.

WHEATSTONE will highlight its IP 64 digital mixing console with AES67 compatibility, touchscreen control, and WheatNet-IP networking for routing and controlling audio anywhere within a TV facility. Available in 32-fader frame sizes on up, the IP-64 has bus-minus on every input channel and two 5.1 surround master output busses and two stereo master output busses. The company will also offer a peek into the future of WheatNet-IP with a demonstration of ScreenBuilder, a software application that virtualizes the console.

YAMAHA’S new CSD-R7 includes a DSP engine built into the console, which is the same size as the PM10. New Yamaha Rio3224-D2 and Rio1608-D2 Dante I/O racks for the RIVAGE PM7 and PM10 can now also be used with current CL and QL Series digital mixing consoles.

AUDIO RECORDING & PLAYOUT

ENCO is featuring HotShot3, which provides instant access to local and network audio assets, interfaces with recording systems, offers logging and compliance, and supports stereo and surround sound.

LECTROSONICS will launch its 24-bit/48 kHz PDR (Personal Digital Recorder), which records onto a microSD card, can be jammed to external timecode and provides a headphone jack for monitoring or file review.

YAMAHA/STEINBERG’S updated NUAGE V2.0 DAW adds support for the remote operation of the MMP1 (Studio Monitor Management System), including monitor source and cue output selection.

ZAXCOM will show its new TRXCL3 wide-band camera link transmitter/recorder (to microSD), which sends audio with embedded timecode to the camera through its UHF signal to QRX200, RX200 and QRX235 Zaxcom receivers and via ZaxNet’s 2.4 GHz signal, to an ERX3TCD receiver.

AUDIO MONITORING & METERING

MARSHALL ELECTRONICS will debut the AR-DM61-BT, multichannel digital audio monitor with a built-in live video preview screen.

RTW is now distributing Nixer Pro Audio’s PD-Dante portable monitoring and diagnostic system worldwide. RTW’s TouchMonitor TM3 Smart and TM3-3G Smart replace the basic TM3 and TM3-3G.

TSL PRODUCTS will show its PAM1-IP and PAM2-IP precision audio monitors now with support for SMPTE 2022-6 and SMPTE 2110 audio and video networks plus Ember+. All TSL MPA1 devices now offer SNMP support.

WOHLER TECHNOLOGIES has updated the iAM-VIDEO-2 monitor to add MPEG-2/H.264 in MPEG-2 Transport Stream over IP and a new touch interface with a streamlined UI.

AUDIO DISTRIBUTION, ROUTING & CODECS

AEQ will launch new Netbox DSP/Netbox 32 AD MX audio routers with Dante connectivity, controllable from Netbox RTC application and including the ability to mix and route between 32 and 160 channels, with or without DSP, depending on the version.

AUDINATE will debut six new adaptors for its Dante AVIO Adapters series, including line-in and line-out analog adapters, a bidirectional AES3/EBU adapter and bidirectional stereo USB adapter.

BARNFIND TECHNOLOGIES offers eight analog audio I/O converted to/from MADI in its new BTF1-10-AA—BTF1-10-AA, which offers 16 SFP ports and 8 BNC top board and the same functionality as BarnOne frames.

JÜNGER AUDIO will debut Netbridge MADI, which bridges up to 128 audio channels between AES67/Dante and MADI infrastructures. The new Netbridge UHD interface integrates 4K-UHD streams MADI and AoIP AES67 infrastructures.

LOGITEK will highlight its JetStream Plus high-density audio router.

PROCO SOUND will feature its AoD output module, which provides 3-foot audio tails and two analog audio outputs, including one RJ45 Dante input using two Neutrik NC3MXX series XLR analog outputs to transport audio over any Dante network.

RIEDEL has acquired Swiss audio networking and streaming specialist Archwave and will adopt its technology solutions for its own product portfolio.

STUDIO TECHNOLOGIES firmware updates add model-dependent functionality to all new Model 5422 Dante Intercom Audio Engine, Model 216 Announcer’s Console and Model 44D Audio Interface products to support the creation of IFB feeds.

TIELINE TECHNOLOGY’S Genie Distribution delivers multipoint audio distribution solutions. Merlin PLUS can create two bidirectional mono or stereo remotes, each with separate bidirectional IFB channels.

MICROPHONES & HEADSETS

DPA MICROPHONES will unveil CORE, a new amplifier technology designed to minimize distortion and increase the dynamic range of its d:screet, d:fine and d:vote lines of miniature lavalier, headset and instrument microphones.

SENNHEISER’S Ambeo Smart Headset enables capture and playback of binaural audio recordings on smartphones. The previously introduced Ambeo VR compact handheld Ambisonics microphone ships with cables, Rycote mount and windshield, plus a freely downloadable A- to B-format encoder.

WIRELESS

SOUND DEVICES has acquired U.K. wireless microphone systems manufacturer Audio Limited, and is distributing the new A10 digital wireless microphone system in North America.

LECTROSONICS will debut the Duet digital wireless monitor (IEM) system, consisting of the M2T half-rack, dual-stereo transmitter, accepting line-level analog or Dante digital inputs, and M2R diversity belt pack receiver.

SENNHEISER will introduce evolution wireless G4, offering a new user interface, expanded switching bandwidth and higher RF output power for the 300 and 500 series, plus new multichannel functionality for the 100 series and new on-camera systems.

WISYCOM will introduce the MPR52-ENG dual channel receiver, which offers 790 MHz bandwidth in the 470/1260 MHz range, digital DSP and a multicompander system.

INTERCOM & REMOTE CONTRIBUTION

AEQ is launching SYSTEL IP 16, a multiline VoIP talkshow/phone-in system engine with SIP signaling protocol and Dante connectivity. Systel IP TV is a multiconference client application for TV that enables flexible control of SYSTEL IP 4, 12 or 16 lines VoIP talkshow systems.

CALREC will show a suite of new features on the RP1 remote production unit, including a two-band filter and four-band EQ, expander and gate facilities, compressor and sidechain EQ facilities, direct output for all remote faders (up to 5.1 wide), and remote auxes via Calrec Assist.

CLEAR-COM, which is marking its 50th anniversary this year, will launch its Dynam-EC add-on module to its Eclipse HX software, offering dynamic user interface built-in automation, multi-user GUI and seamless management for IFBs. Clear-Com has expanded HelixNet channel density six-fold with LQ devices, supporting 24 audio I/O ports assigned to any of the 12 or 24 intercom channels in HelixNet.

COMREX will debut EarShot IFB, a hardware-based system designed to provide telephone-based live studio program and IFB audio to field-based remote broadcasts and allows up to 30 callers to dial in and listen to the audio feeds.

EARTEC will introduce the UltraLITE HUB series, which weighs 9 ounces and allows seven users to talk hands-free, in full duplex, simultaneous talk. Eartec’s new UltraPAK is an ergonomic mini belt pack that allows the addition of lightweight headsets to the full duplex, simultaneous talk intercom.

JK AUDIO will highlight its Outerloop 3.5 universal intercom beltpack, which routes audio through the 3.5mm headset jack on wireless phones or tablets and interfaces to existing 4- or 5-pin intercom headsets.

RTS will introduce new BP-4000 and BP-5000 partyline beltpacks that can cover longer distances without requiring additional equipment such as repeaters. ODIN is a highly scalable intercom system in a 1RU package that can grow from 16 ports to a maximum of 128 ports with up to eight units interconnected via optical Inter-Frame Link.

SONIFEX’S AVN-TB6 is a new six-station intercom for smaller talkback systems; the AVN-TB6D is a desktop version in a smaller form. The AVN-TB20AR (rack) and AVN-TB20AD (desktop) are 20-station intercoms sharing the same features as the AVN-TB6.

TELOS will showcase its Infinity IP Intercom, which converges voice communication and contribution audio on a single IT backbone employing the latest standards-based VoIP and Livewire+ AES67 AoIP transport. It integrates with any AES67 partner devices as well as existing analog, AES, SDI, and MADI systems using Telos Alliance xNode baseband-to-IP interfaces.

TIELINE’S new ViA codec connects using dual Ethernet ports, dual USB modems, an optional LTE module or built-in Wi-Fi to stream using a cellphone Wi-Fi hotspot or other Wi-Fi access points.

YELLOWTEC will debut its b-line digital hybrid and phone system, which may now be combined with Intellimix to control telco and control lines directly via the mixer’s touchscreen.

AUDIO PROCESSING

ORBAN LABS’ new iSurround “Any Content | Any Device” delivers 5.1/11.1 from any legacy content, improves dialog intelligibility and supports dialog replacement along with 1770 loudness compliance. The new Orban openGear 2.0/5.1 puts the company’s standalone processing technologies into industry standard openGear format. QLIGENT will launch Qligent Match, which provides real-time video/audio content match between reference feed and remote feeds.

FILE-BASED WORKFLOW

NUGEN AUDIO will show its 3D Immersive Extension for Halo Upmix which allows first-, second- and third-order Ambisonic output and other formats. New features in Loudness Toolkit v2.7 include a unique power-compensated true peak safe dither algorithm for ISL True Peak limiter.

THIMEO AUDIO TECHNOLOGY’S new WatchCat monitors multiple folders and processes and normalizes all the audio and video files that appear there. Scripting is available to perform custom actions, such as automatically uploading files.

LOUDNESS

JÜNGER AUDIO will introduce its Easy Loudness entry solution for automatic and intelligent real-time loudness management features dual stereo processing channels, integrated 3G SDI or Dante plus optional logging features.

CAMERAS

The NAB Show exhibit halls will see 4K and a few 8K cameras, as well as an array of specialty cameras.

ARRI will showcase its ALEXA LF 4K camera. Rather than miniaturizing pixels to deliver full 4K resolution from a Super 35 sensor, ARRI has chosen to put its proven “optimal” size pixels on a larger than Super 35 sensor.

BLACKMAGIC DESIGN will demonstrate its URSA Broadcast camera, designed for both studio programming and live production. URSA Broadcast works with existing B4 broadcast HD lenses, supports both HD and Ultra HD production. It features a 4K sensor, extended video dynamic range, traditional external controls and buttons, built-in optical ND filters, dual CFast and dual SD card recorder.

GRASS VALLEY will demonstrate its line of multiformat (HD/3G/4K UHD) and multispeed (1X/3X/6X) cameras that offer outstanding image performance, excellent light sensitivity, and the ability to use standard HD lenses. The newest camera, the LDX 86N Series, delivers native HD, 3G and 4K UHD images for the highest possible resolution and image clarity as well as full support for HDR with up to 15 f-stops.

HITACHI KOKUSAI will showcase a firmware update for its SKUHD4000 Ultra HD Camera, allowing separate video shading adjustments for HDR/SDR outputs. The company will also unveil its CU-HD1300FT-S2 HDTV Camera Control Units with UHD/4K 12Gbps outputs.

IKEGAMI will show the UHK-435, a 2/3-inch 3-CMOS sensor, 4K/HD full studio camera and an updated, more compact and lightweight SHK-810 8K UHDTV camera developed in collaboration with NHK.

JVCKENWOOD will show its 800 Series camera connected directly to JVC’s ProHD Dockable Bridge, a wireless bonded IP uplink.

LUMENS INTEGRATION will introduce its VC-A50PN Full HD PTZ IP camera with support for NewTek NDI, allowing it to provide video, audio, PTZ control, tally and power over a single Ethernet cable.

MARSHALL ELECTRONICS will present its Marshall CV502-U3, a USB-powered, HD POV camera with an ultra-wide 126°-angle field-of-view lens, offering simple plug-and-play connectivity.

PANASONIC will introduce its AKUC4000 4K/HD high-speed studio camera, designed for live sports production and high-end event broadcast with high-speed 240fps. Also on display will be Panasonic’s entire NDI PTZ camera line-up: AW-HN38, AW-HN40, AW-UN70 and AW-HN130 as well as the AU-EVA1 5.7K handheld cinema camera.

RUSHWORKS will premier its 3n1 Multi-Function Video Camera, an HD-SDI PTZ with 20x or 30x lens and the ability to auto-track single targets.

SONY will show its CineAlta VENICE motion picture camera, capable of 6K resolution (6048x4032) in Full Frame mode. It features an industry first—a user-interchangeable sensor that requires removal of just six screws, enabling future upgrades and production flexibility. Sony will also showcase its FDR-AX700, NXCAM HXR-NX80 and XDCAM PXW-Z90 4K HDR Palm Cameras.

LENSES

ARRI, as part of its complete large-format acquisition system, will showcase its Signature Prime large format lenses. The lenses are purpose built to cover the larger-than-Super 35 sensor the camera utilizes.

CANON will showcase its CJ45ex9.7B and CJ45ex13.6B lenses, designed for use with broadcast cameras and featuring 2/3-inch sensors. The CJ45ex9.7B provides a high zoom ratio, while the CJ45ex13.6B provides the same zoom ratio and a long focal length.

COOKE OPTICS will feature its new S7/i Full Frame Plus lenses, the first purpose-built full frame lens set on the market, designed specifically to cover the emergent full frame cinema camera sensors up to the full sensor area (46.31mm image circle) of the RED Weapon 8K.

FUJIFILM will present its Fujinon UA24x7.8 lense, sporting a 24x zoom. At 8.6" (220.5mm) length and 4.4 pounds (1.98kg), it’s the smallest, lightest broadcast lens supporting 4K, according the company. Lenses zoom range is 7.8mm–187mm.

SIGMA CORP. OF AMERICA will showcase its Sigma 14mm T2 FF Cine Prime lens, which provides a fast T2 at this ultra-wide angle focal length for full frame sensors. The lens offers cinematographers the opportunity for robust cinematic expression.

CAMERA SUPPORT

In addition to cameras and lenses, shooters ranging from news photographer to motion picture cameramen need camera support equipment to add usability and utility.

TELEPROMPTERS

AUTOSCRIPT will highlight its all-new Intelligent Prompting family, together with new controllers and additional monitors. The system includes the EPIC-IP17 teleprompter displaying scripts sent over IP from WinPlus-IP prompting software.

CUESCRIPT will present its complete IP-based teleprompting system, future-proofed for an IP workflow, but included as standard are HD-SDI and Composite video connections that many studios still use, and USB or BNC CAN bus connectivity on all scroll controls also. Included in the system is CueiT Software, the CueB connectivity hub, and the CueScript PTZ Prompter and IP CSM Prompter Monitors.

TRIPODS & FLUID HEADS

LIBEC has added the AP-X adapter plate to its TH-X H fluid head and tripod system, providing more convenience and utility. The adapter plate design allows detaching the quick release plate with one hand while holding the camera with the other. The plate is also compatible with select Manfrotto and Sachtler heads.

MILLER CAMERA SUPPORT will show its CompassX series (CX2, CX6, CX8, CX10 and CX18), featuring the company’s CB PLUS technology, delivering 16 positions of counterbalance in all models, providing accurate balance.

SACHTLER and VINTEN will demonstrate their jointly developed flowtech 75 tripod, featuring unique quick release brakes and easy adjust levers that enable camera operators to set up and begin using the tripod in an instant. The two brands will showcase a pair of optional flowtech accessories, a detachable carry handle and a compact and lightweight dolly. The flowtech 75 dolly features an integral carry handle and foot-operated brakes for smooth and easy operation.

CAMERA ROBOTICS

RUSHWORKS will demonstrate its PTX Universal PanTilt Heads, available in two sizes. They allow use of VISCA and DMX controllers to remotely control most cameras from AJA, ARRI, Blackmagic Design, Canon, Datavideo, JVC, Marshall, Panasonic, RED, Sony and others. Also new is the RUSHDOLLY for PTZ & PTX Production, a tiny but powerful self-propelled dolly that is designed to interface with PTZ and PTX cameras.

SHOTOKU USA will show its Enhanced ECI Automation Interface that brings efficiency and responsiveness to its TR-XT robotic camera control system. In addition to quick recall of pre-set camera positions during live broadcasts, enhanced ECI supports full joystick trim control to adjust and restore presets from automation systems or vision switcher panels.

TELEMETRICS will demonstrate its RCCP-1A Remote Camera Control Panel with reFrame Automatic Shot Correction, which intuitively and smoothly tracks the movement of on-air talent at a pace equal to that of a manned camera.

VINTEN will showcase its Vantage lightweight robotic head and and μVRC Controller. Vantage enables customers to choose the camera and lens that meet their requirements, and supports a wide range of pro-video camcorders from a variety of manufacturers. The μVRC is designed to complement the Vantage, giving the camera head even greater versatility and flexibility for enterprise video capture.

LIGHTING

When LED lighting was first introduced it provided energy efficient and high output illumination, but with an undesirable color cast. Today’s LED technology has arrived a near perfection of color rendering.

ARRI returns with its popular line of SkyPanel LED soft lights, including the new S360-C. The many creative features built into SkyPanels will be demonstrated through a lighting show in the ARRI booth at the top of every hour.

BB&S LIGHTING will introduce its Force 7 LED LEKO lighting fixture, which delivers 750W equivalent output while drawing just 165W at maximum, with 97 CRI. BBS will show 3- and 4-foot Pipeline Free lighting fixtures, which deliver 4,000 lumens at 98 TLCI in a rugged aluminum-backed cylindrical pipe.

CINEO will introduce its NBCUniversal LightBlade Series, a versatile production lighting system featuring reference-quality tunable white light combined with a separate Rec.2020 saturated color system.

DOPCHOICE will introduce its RABBIT-EARS, which allow users to gang a pair of Litepanels Astra fixtures to a DoPchoice light softening and shaping tool. The system provides fast mounting of Snapbags and Snapgrids.

FLUOTEC will introduce its Cinelight Studio Long Throw LED Panels, designed for use in high-altitude studios. The line features high >97 CRI-TLCI color rendering indexes and a concentrated 50-degree fixed light beam. Also featured are the Vegalux Auralux Studio LED Fresnels. The Auralux 200 provides a motorized zoom variable beam; the Auralux 100 sports a manual zoom. Both are available in Tungsten 3200K and Daylight 5600K.

FREZZI will feature its LED ProLight and Combo Filter, a bright, light and feature rich camera-top light. It includes a quick release head, articulating extension arm, integrated USB charge port and passthru PT connector for piggy-backing another accessories.

K5600 will demonstrate its Joker2, a newly designed variant of the company’s long established Joker line of lights. Advanced features include wireless dimming, plug-in ignition with tungsten option, improved braking mechanism, and quick swap lamp mount.

LITEPANELS will showcase Gemini, an accurate and versatile 2x1 soft panel lighting fixture. Gemini’s latest firmware upgrade allows for a variety of cinematic features such as emergency lights, Fire TV, and hue bursts that are fully customizeable and can be easily saved to presets. Gemini eliminates the need for color correction by offering full-spectrum white light that’s ideal for lighting talent and rendering exceptional color.

MATTHEWS STUDIO EQUIPMENT will demonstrate the K-Stacker, a soft light solution that turns Kino Flo LED panels and fluorescent fixtures into larger soft light sources.

PHOTON BEARD will introduce its Solo Kit, designed around the company’s PB80 LED redhead. The Solo Kit, with three light heads, supplies convenient lighting accessories including three light stands, a soft box, battery plates and a soft case. Also new is the Edukit, designed to provide a professional quality, affordable lighting kit for basic broadcast use.

BATTERIES AND POWER SUPPLIES

Battery and power supply makers continue to move their art forward with lighter weight, greater capacity batteries and faster chargers.

ANTON/BAUER will showcase its V-Mount Digital Battery Series, designed to power at 40 percent greater efficiency in a sleek, ergonomic design with an easy-to-read LCD display.

BHV BROADCAST, in the CueScript booth, will launch its Video Ghost dx, providing dc power, SDI video (ranging from SD to 4K) and a bidirectional data link over a single coaxial cable. The data link covers VISCA and Pelco protocols to drive PTZ cameras for fit-and-forget operation.

CORE SWX will premier its Nano-VBR98, designed for select Panasonic Camcorders such as the EVA. Also new is the Hypercore SLIM 98, which combines the compact design of the Hypercore SLIM HC8 with a 98Wh capacity and USB power output.

FREZZI will demonstrate its next iteration FLB battery, which features a new, built-in Power Tap connector to power lighting. It also sports an integrated USB charger port for smartphones and USB accessories. The FLB is available in 100Wh and 240Wh capacities, in both V-Mount and Anton-type mount.

PAG AMERICA will introduce its PAGlink PowerHub, which provides all outputs needed for camera accessories. Designed for use between two PAGlink Gold Mount batteries, it maintains continuous power to accessories while hot-swapping batteries. It features five ports for interchangeable D-Tap, Lemo, Hirose or USB output connector units. Also new is the PAGlink Micro Charger, an ultra-compact travel charging kit for PAGlink batteries. Gold Mount and V-Mount models are available.

The way digital content creation technology is going, it’s not “what you see is what you get,” it’s more “what you see is what you got!” and “what you got” can only be seen on a video monitor with the latest HDR, HFR and wide color gamut technology. Here’s what to expect in video monitors at the 2016 NAB Show.

Boland BVB42Boland Communications will debut new large format versions of its BVB17, what the company calls their “ultimate production monitor.” The BVB17 is now joined by the 42-inch BVB42, 49-inch BVB49 and 55- inch BVB55. All models feature true 10-bit panels (1.07 billion colors) and a full 10- bit path. For those looking to replace aging plasma technology, Boland will offer their 55-inch BVB55 OLED, with HDR and a contrast ratio of 200,000:1.

Dolby will showcase the latest in Dolby Vision-enabled consumer TVs including: LG’s 2016 OLED TVs and the company’s flagship Super UHDTVs, the TCL X1 models, set to debut later in the fall. We’ll also get a gander at VIZIO’s 4K Ultra HDTVs, which are the first commercial displays to incorporate Dolby Vision.

Eizo will showcase the ColorEdge CG318- 4K, a 31-inch monitor with DCI-4K, a 4096X2160 native resolution. The monitor is designed for media and entertainment, cinema and broadcasting, 2D and 3D computer-generated imagery, visual effects, compositing and color grading. Also from Eizo, the ColorEdge CG248-4K, a 23.8-inch monitor with a UHD, (3840X2160) native resolution and features high-density 185 pixels per inch resolution.

Flanders Scientific BoxIOFlanders Scientific will be at the Las Vegas Convention Center with their BoxIO, an advanced color management device that supports both 3D and 1D LUTs for post production and production applications. BoxIO is equipped with 2x12-bit 3 Gbps SDI inputs, 2x3 Gbps SDI outputs, and a 12-bit DisplayPort output compatible with HDMI and DVI devices.

Ikan will highlight the DH7, a full HD 7-inch monitor that features Ultra HD 4K HDMI capabilities all within a lightweight, affordable package. The DH7 monitor’s 1920X1200 HD resolution, combined with an IPS screen, delivers vibrant color and strong viewing angles. For a super-sharp image, Ikan’s VX9i packs 2.304 million pixels in its 8.9-inch screen, displaying 254.4 PPI.

Ikegami will introduce two new 4K monitors: The HQLM-3120W is a 31.1-inch broadcast quality monitor, incorporating a 10-bit, LED backlit, UHD LCD panel with a contrast ratio of 1450:1; the HQLM-3120WH is an alternate model with a special panel supporting HDR.

JVC will introduce six new ProHD LCD monitors for studio and field use. Integrated with a wide range of professional functions, the new DT-X92 monitors will replace corresponding DT-X91 models in the JVC ProHD monitor lineup. The DT-X92HX2 features two 9-inch IPS LCD panels with embedded audio meters and 3G/HD/SDSDI, HDMI and CVBS inputs. A single 9-inch monitor with similar features, the DT-X92H, is also available, while another new 9-inch monitor, the DT-X92F, adds on-screen waveform, vector scope and RGB histogram. Rounding out the count, three new larger monitors will include the DT-X16H (15.6-inch), DT-X21H (21.5-inch), and DT-X24H (23.8-inch) models, each with a full HD resolution 1920X1080 LCD panel.

Lilliput Electronics will introduce three new monitors this year. Their 7-inch model Q7 Full HD monitor with 1920x1200 resolution and SDI/HDMI input/output features SDI/HDMI cross conversion, advance functions like waveform, vectorscope, timecode and peaking. Lilliput will also showcase its 23.8-inch and 28-inch 4K UHD broadcast director monitors with metal carry-on cases, each with 3G-SDI, 4 HDMI, DVI, VGA, AV inputs.

Marshall Electronics will shine the spotlight on their new V-R173-DLW desktop/ rackmount monitor and digital analytics workstation featuring a robust set of analytics tools packed into a 17.3-inch 1920X1080p LED-backlit display. With selectable quad-view mode the Marshall Electronics V-R173-DLW simultaneously displays waveform, vectorscope, digital audio and live preview with support for closed-caption decoding (CEA-608-B & CEA-708-B), timecode, VANC and tri-color tally data.

Plura PBM-224-4KOSEE will presenti four lines of new monitoring products at the NAB Show. All models have 12-bit Image-Fidélité processing, tuned with algorithms for model-to-model repeatable image accuracy. OSEE’s BCM and XCM models feature wide gamut IPS and OLED panels that can be pre-loaded with 15–30 33 Point 3D LUTS with 14- bit interpolation accuracy for DCI-P3 and ITU.709 color space.

Plura Broadcast will introduce a complete portfolio of 4K monitors in Las Vegas this year, including the Plura PBM-4K and LCM-4K Series, available in multiple sizes from 24- to 84-inches. The Plura PBM-4K Series will support SMPTE 2036-1, 2x12G/3G/ HD-SDI inputs with active loop. LCM-4K Series 49- and 84-inch monitors, supports up to 3840x2160 resolutions with HEVC decoder.

SmallHD 702 LiteSeeTec will highlight the SeeTec P173- 9HSD, with support for multiple inputs: HDMI, 3G/HD/SD-SDI, DVI, and YPbPr, and both analog and digital inputs have looping outputs. The P173-9HSD also features an intuitive operating system with built-in tools like waveform, vectorscope, audio level, meters, histogram, focus assist, exposure and false color.

SmallHD will debut new full-size 17-inch, 24-inch and 32-inch production monitors. The monitors’ features include up to 2,000 NITs of brightness, intuitive operating system, compatibility with new HDR footage formats, 1920x1080 8- and 10-bit IPS LCD panel with 4up signal view, up to 5000:1 contrast ratio,

Sony will showcase its flagship BVM-X300 30-inch 4K OLED master monitor, featuring the inherent performance of Trimaster EL OLED monitors, including deep black performance, accurate color reproduction, quick pixel response and wide viewing angles. The BVM-X300 supports HDR mode, can output higher brightness and higher contrast, enables full 4K resolution (4096X2160), offers a wide color gamut conforming to DCI-P3 and displays up to 80 percent of the new ITU-R BT2020 color gamut.

Video Device’s Pix-E7 The Video Devices division of Sound Devices will be bringing its PIX-E7 4K recording monitor, which it says helps you “capture with confidence” thanks to its optically-bonded, capacitive touchscreen for maximum light transmission and minimal reflection. The PIX-E7 offers a full HD 1920x1200 display, a suite of precision monitoring tools, SDI and HDMI I/O, and Apple ProRes codecs, up to 4444 XQ 12-bit.

TVLogic will exhibit six new models including their new 24-inch LUM-240G. Designed to accept both Quad 3G or two single 6G/12G 4K/UHD inputs as well as “two sample interleave” via SDI, the LUM- 240G also supports 4K/UHD resolutions up to 60p via HDMI 2.0 input.

Wohler Technologies will debut its UHDM-4K-TT SD and HD rackmounted and table-top video monitoring series that provides a range of high-quality 4K output screens that can be configured in either full 4K or quad full HD mode, delivering versatility in a range of applications.

The 2016 NAB exhibition floor will see 4K lens introductions for both three 2/3-inch sensors and for single-sensor full frame cameras.

Canon CJ20ex7

LENSES
Canon will unveil its CJ20ex7.8B portable 4K broadcast lens for use with broadcast cameras featuring 2/3-inch sensors, with a 20x zoom range. For single-sensor 4K cameras, Canon will also introduce the ultra-telephoto CINE-SERVO 50-1000mm T5.0-8.9 Ultra-Telephoto Zoom lens, touting the world’s longest focal length (75-1500mm with built-in 1.5x extender) and highest (20x) magnification zoom lens.

Cooke Optics will premier its Cooke Anamorphic/i 35-140mm Zoom, which provides a 4X zoom ratio to allow shooting from very wide-angle to telephoto. It features true, front anamorphic with 2x squeeze, and the same Oval bokeh utilized on other Cooke Anamorphic/i Primes. The new zoom maintains an oval bokeh throughout zoom and focus.

Fujifilm Optical Devices will showcase its entire range of Fujinon 4K Ultra HD Series, Cabrio PL cine/ENG-Style lenses, Premier PL 4K+ cine lenses, as well as the popular XA55x9.5BESM 2/3-inch zoom and XA99x8.4 ultra-wide field production lens. As the exhibit floor opens, expect news about developments in the PL 4K and 4K Ultra HD Series lenses.

Schneider Optics will debut its FF-Primes in Sony E Mount. FF-Primes are available in 25mm, 35mm, 50mm, 75mm and 100mm, with 18mm and 135mm expected by year-end. They are designed for 4K and beyond, and cover full-frame sensor (36mm x 24mm). Interchangeable mounts are already on the market for fitting FF Primes to Canon EF, Nikon F and PL.

Veydra will show off its 1.2x PL to PL Expander, which makes it possible to use zoom lenses designed for Academy format 27.2mm image circle (pre-Super 35) cameras and give them new life by expanding the image circle of the older vintage zoom lenses to 34mm diagonal. This allows coverage of RED’s Epic Dragon as well as other PL mounted digital cameras that have a sensor larger than the Academy aperture and up to a 34mm image circle.

FILTERS
Schneider Optics will debut its 1-Stop Circular Polarizer, reduces exposure by just one ƒ/stop, allowing for use in low-light conditions, while providing polarizer efficiency that is magnitudes better than any low-light polarizer currently available. Also new will be Schneider’s True-Streak Confetti Filter, which creates mini-streaks that appear as a sparkle or fireworks effect as the filter is rotated.

The momentum behind IP network adoption, buoyed by the recent publication of the latest AES67 standard, has inspired a variety of added features or entirely new products at this year’s NAB Show. While there is relatively little advance news of products for immersive audio environments, there will likely be revelations on the show floor as broadcasters worldwide prepare for next-gen television and consumers begin to buy into the promise of virtual reality and augmented reality.

Solid State Logic’s System TAUDIO MIXERS
Solid State Logic will debut System T, an environment comprising a range of Dante HC networked hardware and software control interfaces, supporting up to three consoles or control interfaces accessing a single or fully mirrored redundant pair of processor engines, each handling up to 3,072 inputs and outputs and 800 fully configurable processing paths.

lWaves’ eMotion LV1 software audio mixer delivers the convenience and speed needed in demanding live environments, offering high-end precision and reliable performance, be it mixing, recording, streaming etc., at an extremely cost effective package.

Wheatstone will introduce a new console design and new audio signal processing technology, in addition to showing its established TV audio product designs.

AUDIO RECORDING & PLAYOUT
Audio Technology Switzerland’s Nagra Seven recorder is now equipped with a 4G communication option for file transfer over the GSM network. The company will also introduce MIDI-C, a portable MIDI controller for channel mixing of the Nagra VI.

The ENCO AIM-100 Audio Insertion Manager monitors, prioritizes, and converts weather, sports updates, emergency alerts, and other text to audio for TV using a natural sounding Text-To-Speech converter for 21st CVAA compliance or other Text-To- Speech tasks.

AUDIO MONITORING & METERING
Qligent is adding multichannel audio support alongside multiplatform video within its Vision cloud monitoring platform, offering more flexible and detailed audio bars, among other features.

TSL Products will launch the remotely web-addressable MPA product range in North America, featuring two models with MADI, SDI, AES3, and analogue connectivity plus support for Dante and Ravenna. Solo offers the ability to listen to any channel, while Mix enables the user to create a simple monitoring mix.

Ward-Beck is introducing the AMS2-N rack monitor, which offers AES67 networking and AES connectivity. The new 32ME-N 32-channel meter bridge supports 16 channels onto and 16 channels off of an AES67- capable network. Ward-Beck originally designed BIG VU’s comically large LED VU action meters for the 2015 NAB Show as an attention grabber but, due to popular demand, the design has been improved and they are now available to order.

AUDIO DISTRIBUTION, ROUTING & CODECS
Calrec will showcase four new networking interfaces, including an AES67/Ravenna interface, an AVB interface, and a modular I/O Dante card that also has AES67 compatibility. The company will also debut a SMPTE 2022-6 video interface.

Cobalt Digital will introduce its 9433 Series openGear fiber-optic audio embedder/de-embedder cards, available in a single-channel, unidirectional EO-to-OE configuration, and a dual-channel, bidirectional EO/OE transport solution.

Henry Engineering’s AES DigiSwitch 3x1 is a 3-input, 1-output switcher for AES digital audio that reportedly features zero delay and zero latency, is bit-accurate, and offers control via front panel push buttons or GPI interface. AES Digital DA 2x4 is a distribution system that supports two inputs (AES and S/ PDIF) and four AES outputs, all individually transformer-isolated, in an AC-powered unit.

Linear Acoustic AERO.10Linear Acoustic is adding a new 2+2+2+2+2 configuration to its AERO.10 processor lineup, which features the same engine as the AERO.100/1,000/2,000 in a cost-effective package for applications not requiring Dolby or Nielsen.

SAM's 3RU IP-Edge provides IP interfacing and control across the company’s portfolio, offering IP video and audio processing enabling conversion, loudness processing, proc-amp controls, track swapping or standard SAM media processing.

TSL Products says it will launch a new product line targeting VoIP at the show.

Ward-Beck's MLC8-N Multichannel Level Controller has been designed as an “on ramp” for analog and AES audio to an AES67 network, and includes tactile level/mute control. The flexible POD8A half rack space analog audio distribution amp may be used as a 1x16 mono DA, 2x8 Stereo DA, or an A+B mixing DA, and includes level controls on all inputs and outputs.

Lectronsonics’ HMa Digital Hybrid Wireless plug-on transmitterWIRELESS
Lectrosonics will introduce its HMa Digital Hybrid Wireless plug-on transmitter, designed to match any microphone or line level source and includes a wide tuning range of 76 MHz in 100 kHz or 25 kHz steps for up to 3,072 frequencies.

Wisycom will debut its MTP41S pocket wireless transmitter, featuring an integrated hardware limiter with user-selectable noise-or voice-optimized companding, up to 232 MHz bandwidth in a 470/798 MHz range and 50mW output power. The company will also feature its new CSI16T smart passive wideband combiner, which communicates with Wisycom’s MTK952N transmitter through coaxial inputs, works up to 3W of power and allows smart power management.

Clear-Com’s DX410 intercomINTERCOM & REMOTE CONTRIBUTION
Clear-Com will introduce v3.0 of its HelixNet 3.0 intercom platform, which increases the channel count of a standard 4-channel main station to 12 channels and is expandable to 24 channels via license purchase. The DX410 2.4 GHz digital wireless intercom system features two channels of 7 kHz wideband audio with upgraded radio technology for better transmission/reception, 2-wire/4-wire bridging, and 2-wire auto-nulling. The DX410 system also features a new lightweight and durable BP410 wireless beltpack and WH410 all-in-one wireless headsets. New LQ-R devices provide either four or eight ports per rack unit to extend or link any industry-standard 2- or 4-wire intercom and audio systems over LAN, WAN, or IP networks.

Eartec will highlight its UltraLITE full duplex wireless headsets, which include a compact radio installed inside the ear-cup and operate without rackmounted base station repeaters to provide hands-free voice communication.

Joseph Electronics will spotlight its Dante Booth System, which transports standard 3G/HD/SD-SDI signals along with Dante and is based on the popular Joseph Fiber Systems Booth Caddie system.

Radio Active Designs will showcase its new TX-8 wireless system antenna combiner. Able to be used on the transmit side of the UV-1G as well as with any UHF in-ear monitoring system, the TX-8 allows the connection of up to eight UHF transmitters to one antenna.

RTS’ DKP-4016 desktop intercom keypanelRTS Intercom Systems will showcase its DKP-4016 desktop intercom keypanel includes Omneo IP technology and Dante compatibility, 16-position multi-function lever keys and high-resolution color display, and is fully backwards compatible with all existing RTS matrices.

FILE-BASED WORKFLOW
Linear Acoustic is introducing the latest updates for its MT2000 multichannel bit-stream analyzer that simplifies use and improves signal display, as well as adding several new features.

Minnetonka Audio will feature its latest digital audio software solutions including the latest version of AudioTools Server, AudioTools CLOUD, SurCode Dolby Digital Plus for Avid, and SurCode Dolby E for Adobe Premiere Pro CC.

NUGEN Audio will mark the NAB Show debut of its Halo Upmix, which automates the creation of a stereo-to-surround, downmix-compatible upmix with unique center channel management and spatial density controls. It’s available in Avid AAX, VST, and AU formats. NUGEN will also unveil its Stereo-to-9.1 option for Halo Upmix, which allows the introduction of vertical positioning into the upmix, generating a 7.1.2 (Dolby Atmos) bed track-compatible upmix.

Nugen Audio’s Loudness Management Batch ProcessorLOUDNESS
NUGEN Audio will release updates for ProRes, MXF and DynApt extensions for its Loudness Management Batch Processor, which include improved LRA correction speed for the DynApt Extension and wider file format support for the ProRes Extension. The developer will also demonstrate new Adobe Premiere integration for its LM-Correct 2 loudness quick-fix tool, enabling its loudness analysis and correction to be run from a simple panel within Adobe Premiere without leaving the editing environment.

The growth of 4K test gear in the past three years has been astonishing. More than ever, the test & measurement exhibitors at the 2016 NAB Show will showcase a wide array of solutions to check and maintain quality of 4K/UHD signals. With multiple program providers now delivering in 4K and millions of 4K-capable sets in the living rooms of consumers, it’s clear that 4K equipment is the hot trend in this category.

CONTENT MONITORING
Axon Digital will display its extensive line of transport stream analyzers, including the Smart DVB 90-series, which provides monitoring, analysis and display of transport stream integrity, and now includes black and freeze-frame detection running continually on all services as a background process.

Dektec will highlight its StreamXpert 2.0 HEVC decoder and analysis system, which also supports analysis of MPEG-2 and AVC video. On the audio side, StreamXpert 2.0 has an improved AC-3 and E-AC-3 audio decoder, as well as support for analysis of Dolby AC-4 audio.

Mediaproxy will introduce updates to its LogServer suite of products, now with advanced data monitoring panels in the Monwall IP multiviewer to facilitate real-time analysis and monitoring; advanced OTT monitoring at scale for HLS, SmoothStreaming and Dash sources/profiles; and support for 4K/HEVC sources. Also new is a native mobile app for real-time broadcast stream monitoring supported on iOS/Windows Mobile and Android devices.

Qligent will introduce several new features that simplify scalability of its Vision cloud-based monitoring platform,Qligent Virtual Probes, which can analyze IP-based streams from anywhere in the field and present that data on a centralized Vision dashboard in the cloud.

Nevion will highlight its network monitoring products, such as the TNS4200 broadcast monitor, which observes streams on IP/Ethernet and DVB-ASI, and provides fault detection and diagnostics with an easy-to-use user interface.

Rohde & Schwarz BMM-810 multiviewer and content monitoring solutionRohde & Schwarz will put the spotlight on the BMM-810 multiviewer and content monitoring solution for broadcast network and streaming platform operators. The BMM-810 allows visual monitoring of all service components and automatically detects content errors caused by playout, compression or transmission systems.

Sencore will show its AG 9000 UHD HEVC monitoring decoder, which provides HEVC 4K decoding for monitoring realtime linear distribution video feeds. The AG 9000 is a card that can be used in any Ross openGear frame, with up to 20 channels deployed in 2RU.

Torque Video Systems will feature the DVMon a monitoring platform for digital television networks. DVMon continuously compares required transport stream parameters and service attributes with what is actually there. In addition to its monitoring features, DVMon provides deep technical analysis of all transport stream parameters.

Triveni Digital will launch its new Broadcast Services Management Platform, giving broadcasters the ability to efficiently manage and deliver the necessary elements for ATSC 3.0 (and simultaneously, extensions compatible with the current broadcast standard as well). These include advanced service guides, hyperlocal advertisement, emergency alerts, interactive and dynamic media, addressable content, and efficient delivery of large-volume content. A key element of the platform is Triveni Digital’s new GuideBuilder XM signaling system, which offers unified signaling and announcement functionality per ATSC 3.0, along with support for legacy standards such as ATSC 1.0 PSIP and DVB-SI.

The company will also debut its Stream- Scope EM-50 enterprise-wide management system. In combination with StreamScope RM-50, the system proactively detects, isolates and resolves problems that degrade video services, and allows system-wide compliance auditing for key requirements, such as CALM and closed captioning.

Vidcheck will launch a fully scalable version of its Vidchecker automated quality control system. Vidchecker examines file-based video, audio and related metadata before and after distribution. It is also used by broadcasters to check files received from post-production and content distributors to ensure that file, video and audio parameters and levels are correct and ready for broadcast.

Video Clarity will demonstrate ClearView 8.4, the latest update to its ClearView line of video quality analyzers. In v8.4, ClearView 4K and 8K systems now provide new color-space-capable pictures as prescribed by ITU-R BT.2020 as well as support for high dynamic range.

Volicon’s Multiviewer option for the Observer Media Intelligence Platform unites recording capability with multiviewer functionality to give users access to multiple live or recorded programs. At the 2016 NAB Show, Volicon will demonstrate how an improved graphical interface for its multiviewer enables users to keep their eyes and ears on every channel in the broadcast delivery chain, including OTT feeds.

Blackmagic Design UltraScopeVIDEO TEST
Blackmagic Design will showcase Ultra- Scope, a card that mounts in a standard PC, features six different scopes for measuring all aspects of a broadcast video signal, including waveform, vectorscope, RGB parade, YUV component parade, histogram, audio phase and audio level meters, plus picture view.

Cobalt Digital will spotlight its BBG-1060- TG2-REF1 standalone, dual-channel test signal generator a desktop unit that generates 3G/HD/SD-SDI/NTSC/PAL SDI test patterns and trouble slides and is capable of performing two separate tests on two separate paths. The generator offers bi-level and tri-level sync or composite-video test-pattern output.

For users with traditional engineering requirements, the Videotek division of Imagine Communications has familiar waveform monitors with advanced capabilities. At this year’s show, Imagine will feature the Videotek TVM9150PKG waveform monitor and audio signal analyzer, which can display and evaluate up to four input sources in four different formats, simultaneously.

Leader Instruments LV5480 HD waveform monitorLeader Instruments will showcase the LV5480 HD waveform monitor that can be upgraded to 4K. The eight-input LV5480 has digital audio capabilities, eye pattern and jitter measurement functions, can also generate test patterns. It also includes Leader’s CINELITE II toolset (comprising CINELITE and CINEZONE) as a standard feature, allowing easy assessment of relative exposure and overall luminance during production.

Lynx Technik will feature its Testor|lite 3G portable test generator, with support for SD/ HD/3G 4:2:2 and dual-link video formats, and which generates two simultaneous outputs, as well as one sync output. In addition, the unit can generate 3D test patterns.

Marshall Electronics will highlight its V-R185-DLW, an 18.5-inch monitor with waveform and vectorscope display. The V-R185-DLW incorporates a 10-bit video path and displays four quadrants for audio levels, waveform, vectorscope and live video simultaneously. It has two inputs supporting 3G/HD-SDI and Dual Link.

Phabrix will display the Qx UHDTV1 and UHDTV2 combined generator/analyzers. With real-time 12G-SDI physical layer analysis (eye and jitter) toolset and automatic SMPTE compliance measurements, it provides comprehensive testing for 4K/UHD infrastructures. The PhabrixQx platform supports the next generation of both copper and fiber uncompressed SDI interfaces, including SMPTE ST 2022-6 over 10GbE for IP-based infrastructures.

A requirement of a hybrid SDI and IP broadcast infrastructure is the ability to synchronize the facility in a mixed frameand packet-accurate environment. At this year’s NAB Show, Tektronix will highlight its SPG8000A master sync and PTP grandmaster clock generator, a field upgradeable unit that provides PTP (IEEE 1588) support for both traditional SDI-based and IP-based media infrastructures.

It’s no surprise that storage and playout technologies are turning to the skies, and at this year’s convention, attendees can expect to see cloud-based broadcast platforms that offer everything from PVR functionality to the ability to play out HD or 4K in the cloud. But not everything heading down a virtualized path: manufacturers are also heading to NAB with new slo-mo 4K players and disk-based storage archival systems.

RECORDERS/PLAYERS & PERIPHERALS
360 Systems comes to NAB Show with the TSS-3100, a three-channel video recorder/player; the VTH-2280, a two-channel bi-directional record or playout video server; the TSS-2470, a single-channel, 1U broadcast video time delay server; and the TSS-4000, a four-channel video playout with HD-SDI and SD-SDI selectable on a per channel basis.

Matrox VS4Recorder ProAmagi plans to show its new CUMULUS cloud-based broadcast platform. Offered as a platform-as-a-service (PaaS), CUMULUS enables content owners and broadcasters to create and deliver linear and nonlinear streams across cable, satellite, IPTV and OTT on-demand platforms.

Matrox will highlight its VS4Recorder Pro, designed for use with Matrox VS4 quad HD capture cards. Each VS4Recorder Pro system frame-accurately captures up to four video and audio inputs to create files for use with popular editing apps from Adobe, Apple and Avid and for archiving. H.264 is provided in either MOV or MP4 wrappers.

OWC Digital will show peripherals like the USB-C Dock, designed to provide 10 ports with the ability to charge devices and add external storage; the Mercury Electra Max 6G, a 2.5-inch solid-state drive; and ThunderBay 4, an external drive featuring four 3.5-inch drive bays with options for up to 32 TB of storage.

Sonnet Technologies will show its first products featuring Thunderbolt 3 in the form of the Fusion Thunderbolt 3 PCIe flash drive, a rugged, pocket-sized solid-state drive storage device capable of transferring data at speeds of more than 2,000 MBps.

ARCHIVING
Apace Systems will show its Apace Offline Drive Manager, the newest generation of the disk-based storage archival system that uses disk-based media to offer archival functionality similar to tape library functionality. The company will also show the Apace vStor v50 series, a hybrid SSD/HDD storage platform optimized for large workgroups that have high-resolution video editing requirements; and the private cloud solution called Apace OurTube, which provides a private media cloud solution with browser-based log in and global access over WiFi and 4G networks.

Imagine Products will show PreRoll Post, an application that eases LTO tape archiving by automating indexing of camera originals while backing up full-resolution media to local disk, long-term LTO tapes or optical disc.

Masstech Innovations will introduce enhancements to MassStore, which allows users to manage media assets and related information throughout their lifecycle for MAM, archiving, news or transmission purposes. The company also announced it has added native support for LTO-7-compliant storage devices across its range of solutions.

SGL will demo the FlashNet User Interface, which provides customers with a dashboard designed to simplify archive procedures. The company will also show the newest version of FlashNet, which allows customers to allocate a pre-defined number of drives within their library for a specific role, such as archiving certain jobs or restoring/archiving material at a certain time of day. The company will also showcase support for Sony’s Ci.

Suitcase TV will show off its MediaStor storage and archiving platform, which has now been released as a standalone solution. Features include support for archiving and spinning disk using new SMR disk technology.

CLOUD & PLAYOUT
Broadcast Solutions will be on hand with two new slo-motion 4K servers: BlackJack 4K and Arrow 4K.

Broadpeak tackles live OTT delivery with the nanoCDN, which allows users to deliver live OTT content up to 2160p. Also on display will be the CDN in a Box solution with cloud PVR functionalities, a solution that simplifies the deployment of video streaming services by providing operators with CDN management, video analytics and fast channel change capabilities for live IPTV situations.

BLT ITALIA is calling the BLT SportTouch the first integrated video server with telestrator functionality and a modern human interface that is designed for live production. The company will also show BLT Central Storage, a hardware platform; and the BLT SMS-4U HDTV multi-channel production video server.

For playout, ChyronHego will introduce the Channel Box PRIME playout system, which offers channel-branding capability.

Cinegyi will showcase “Cinegy as a Service, “a new concept that will eventually include all of Cinegy’s software technology, including Cinegy Air, and is ported to run via cloud-based services such as Amazon Web Services, which will enable prospective users to test drive Cinegy technology in an HD or 4K cloud.

Crawford Media Services plans to show its cloud-based solutions, which includes its mass digitization migration service.

DVEO will show the Atlas streaming server, which allows users to stream live events to many subscribers from any H.264 encoder or IP camera, with the ability to serve 1,000 simultaneous users natively. Also on display: Channel Manager ad and EAS playout server with channel-in-a-box features. The server can insert emergency alerts as well as video clips, crawling text and graphics.

EditShare’s XStream EFS 4K storage solutionDynamic Drive Pooli will show off the hand-carriable MicroDDP10GbE, a low-noise, lowpower, 1U Ethernet SAN shared storage solution that weighs about 11 pounds and offers up to 16 TB of capacity. The company will also show the smaller-scale MicroDDP1GbE.

EditShare will showcase the XStream EFS SSD storage solution, designed for bandwidth-intensive tasks such as 4K DPX digital intermediate workflows. It is equipped with standard dual-port 40GbE and 10GbE network cards.

EMC will show the OneFS 8.0, which offers non-disruptive operating system upgrades for the company’s Isilon storage clusters. Other solutions on display will include the IsilonSD Edge software-defined storage solution; and EMC Isilon Cloud- Pools, which enable Isilon customers to archive or tier assets to a private cloud.

Evertz will show the DC-458D Double Density 4K DreamCatcher replay system, a scalable IP-based replay system.

EVS XT3EVS plans to show the 4U ChannelMAX mode within the XT3. This new model will allow customers to double the channel density of their live production server to eight or 12 channels. The company will also introduce the new XS3 media production server, which offers improved content management and greater production integration, and can expand from two to 12 channels as required.

Facilis will showcase the latest enhancements to its TerraBlock shared storage system, particularly its latest SSD technology, which it has incorporated within the Hybrid24 and SSD8 products.

Harmonic will debut its MediaGrid 4000 a high-performance scale-out storage system that increases storage density to 24 6-TB drives in a 4RU chassis, and delivers the performance of a Fibre Channel storage area network (SAN) with the simplicity and scalability of Ethernet-based network-attached storage (NAS). There are two members of the new MediaGrid product family: the MediaGrid ContentServer 4000 offers twice the performance of MediaGrid 3000 system components, a 50-percent increase in storage capacity and double the number of 10-Gb Ethernet ports. Storage capacity can be expanded incrementally by 48, 96 or 144 TB by adding MediaGrid ContentStore 4240 nodes outfitted with 24 hot-swappable 2-TB, 4-TB or 6-TB SAS drives. ContentStore 5840 nodes can also be added to MediaGrid 4000 systems for the highest storage density in the industry—up to 504 TB in 5RU.

Imagine Communications will offer attendees a look at the company’s CloudXtream, a series of cloud-based solutions that allow service providers to introduce personalized services that redefine the video consumption experience.

VSN will feature VSNEXPLORER, which has been newly integrated with Microsoft’s Azure Media Services to create an enhanced MAM on Cloud solution. Among added features: auto-detection of adult content, multi-format cloud transcoding, face blurring in videos and content fingerprinting.

MOG Technologies will show its Cloud Services solution, which supports CDN, video cloud and traditional storage; and mxf-SPEEDRAIL Xpress 2U, which offers storage capability and up to four simultaneous SDI channels.

NetApp's E5600 Series of storage systems allows broadcasters and production facilities to use dynamic disk pools for consistent video bandwidth. NetApp will also showcase the newest features within its StorageGRID Webscale, an appliance or software-defined object storage solution; and its Data ONTAP operating system, a scale-out NAS storage solution that runs on the new FAS8000 Series of enterprise storage systems.

Prime Focus Technologies will feature the newest version of its CLEAR Media ERP suite and its modules, which include Cloud MAM, Broadcast Cloud, Production Cloud, Operations Cloud and SecureScreener.

Renewed Vision will show the newest release of ProPresenter, a CG and video playout server platform now available for Windows. ProPresenter 6 introduces features for broadcast and staging.

Quantum XcellisSpectra Logic will showcase its newest product, the Spectra TFinity ExaScale Edition, a tape storage system designed to protect legacy assets in a smaller storage footprint.

Quantum will debut Xcellis, a shared workflow storage system that consolidates media and metadata management, extends connectivity options, and supports hosted applications. The company will also show Q-Cloud vault support in the new StorNext 5.3 platform. The company’s Q-Cloud Vault long-term cloud storage service is integrated into v5.3 of StorNext to provide Quantum-managed cold storage in the public cloud.

TelVue will show the TelVue GoToAir, a PC-based video application for sports and live event production.

Tightrope Media Systems will show its Cablecast Reflect cloud-based service, which supports delivery of Cablecast’s adaptive bit-rate, H.264 video streams to any unlimited number of viewers. Cablecast Reflect can pull cached files and streams from Cablecast Live and cable VOD servers and send them to viewers.

Torque Video Systems will demo Torque DVStor, a self-contained transport stream recording and playout solution that archives data and can play out a custom playlist of content recorded off the input, or evergreen material uploaded from an asset store.

TransMedia Dynamics will show its Mediaflex Unified Media Services, which provide a unified services platform for a range of TMD media services; and Aperture, an ingest solution.

IP has brought a technology explosion to the process of moving broadcast-quality video from one location to another. Broadcasters have more ways than ever to set up permanent or temporary video feeds for remote production or fast-breaking news.

In the meantime, the traditional ways of delivering remote video from the field to the studio are getting better, faster and easier to use. If broadcast television is to remain relevant, its ability to field trained news reporters at breaking news events is a major factor in keeping viewers watching. There are surprises every year at the NAB Show in this category, so you are advised to keep your eyes open for the latest innovations in remote communications.

TRUCKS & MICROWAVE
AMT (Accelerated Media Technologies) will highlight its ENGenesis system that supports two-way communication between broadcast trucks and TV stations. ENGenesis features an all IP-architecture and is based on industry-standard LTE technology adapted to operate in 2/7GHz BAS bands and features dynamic bandwidth allocation, QoS and a software-upgradeable future-proof design.

BSI will show its Real Freedom Camera Back Transmitter, a compact, wireless system designed for live ENG. With its 3G 1080p encoder, the transmitter is capable of 10-bit, 4:2:2 sampling throughout all resolutions and frame rates.

AVIWest’s DMNG HE4000 HEVC 4K video encoderAVIWest will demonstrate the DMNG HE4000, a new HEVC 4K video encoder designed to distribute 4K content over unmanaged networks. Using the high-efficiency video encoder for contribution applications, broadcasters can deliver 4K, HD or SD video content at low bit rates over IP networks, even in volatile network environments.

Grass Valley CopperHead 3404Grass Valley will feature its extensive line of remote camera connection systems, such as the CopperHead 3404 fiber transceiver. The CopperHead 3404 takes video from a dual/quad-link 4K camera and delivers it to a studio or production truck, providing all the signals needed for multicamera 4K production using a single tactical or SMPTE hybrid fiber cable.

Bluebell Opticom will introduce the BCX- 760 series 10G Ethernet point-to-point fiber link, a camera-back interface that allows easy connection and signal transport between camera and OB truck or base station. BCX interfaces map any broadcast camera signal onto a 10G Ethernet point-to-point link for high-quality transport over much longer distances than have been previously possible.

IP-ENG/BONDED CELLULAR
Cobham, which changed its name to DCT (Domo Tactical Communications) recently, will launch the SOLO7-OBTx, a feature-packed camera-back transmitter that includes 1080p60 and 4:2:2 compression, integrated camera control, swappable RF modules, and H.264/MPEG-4 video encoding. The company will also debut the SOLO8 SDR (software-defined radio), a dual input HD-SDI, COFDM, and IP mesh transmitter that includes integral video analytics, recording, and IP streaming. It can be implemented via PC software or embedded system.

Comrex LiveShotComrex will show off the new version of its LiveShot transport system, which delivers low-latency video and audio over a range of IP networks, and can provide two-way connectivity simultaneously even over challenging networks. LiveShot provides return video, two IFB returns, and director/camera PL, and now has upgraded firmware v1.4.

Dejero will feature its Live+ Transceiver, a combination encoder/decoder for IP video transport over the company’s Live+ platform. With the ability to accept IP inputs and feed IP outputs simultaneously in a single 1RU chassis, the Live+ Transceiver can also be used to contribute and receive HD live content across Dejero’s new Live+ Multipoint IP video distribution network.

DVEO will highlight its CloudPort: 8 Sim H.264, a bonded cellular backpack system that bundles up to eight mobile network channels from one or multiple operators into a single broadband channel for studio backlink. Users can also add Wi-Fi and Ethernet connections to maximize the upload capacity, resulting in a total of 10 connections on a single system.

IDX will show its Cam-Wave CM1 wireless HDMI transmission system that can be used to feed 1080p from a camera’s HDMI port to a receiver up to 100 meters away. The Cam-Wave CM1 uses dynamic frequency selection in the 5 GHz band to select an interference-free channel.

Integrated Microwave Technologies (IMT) will spotlight its 58microLite HD Mini Kit, a portable professional-grade MPEG-4 COFDM HD wireless camera transmission link capable of providing high-quality video at distances greater than two miles. Developed for the next generation of HD-capable compact cameras, the 58micro- Lite system is available in either licensed or unlicensed bands.

Joseph Electronics will introduce the JFS Waveshifter-4 series, which can transport up to four HD camera systems on one single-mode fiber. Waveshifter-4 uses optical wavelength-shifting technology to map the two fibers in standard HD cameras to wavelengths in the CDWM spectrum so that they can then be introduced into a CWDM mux.

LiveU SoloLiveU will feature a live studio in collaboration with TWiT.tv, NewTek and Panasonic. The company will also demonstrate LiveU Solo, its new plug-and-play live streaming bonded solution for the online media market. LiveU Solo lets users live-stream seamlessly into any web streaming workflow by connecting automatically to content delivery networks such as YouTube Live and Wowza Streaming Cloud.

Moseley will show its range of wireless broadcast communications products, such as the DTV Short Haul Link, a compact inter- city relay system that can transmit digital data (including video) at standard data rates to 155 Mbps and enhanced data rates up to 310 Mbps.

Riedel Communications will highlight its STX-200 Skype interface, which runs Skype TX software and can be used to integrate remote Skype feeds into a studio presentation. The STX-200 is compatible with standard free Skype clients to allow incoming studio video feeds from a range of participants.

TVU OneTeradek will showcase its Cube compact H.264 encoder/decoder, designed to stream live HD video directly to the Web, point-to-point over the Internet, and to iOS and Android devices. The company will also demonstrate its Core Cloud Platform that allows users to configure, monitor and record Teradek codecs in real-time or route video feeds to any number of destinations anywhere in the world.

TVU Networks will show its TVU One, TVU Me, TVU Grid and TVU Anywhere. TVU One delivers the same transmission resiliency, HD picture quality and sub-second latency of a full-size mobile cellular backpack solution but in a ultra-compact size and weight form factor. TVU Me is an IP video marketplace that enables broadcasters to purchase live or recorded video content from other broadcasters, freelancers and independent production crews from around the world. TVU Grid is a powerful, simple IP-video switching, routing and distribution platform that can seamlessly switch live IP video content and share live video streams between multiple remote locations.TVU Anywhere is an app for iPhone or Android devices that enables reporters to instantly capture and transmit live video from their smart phones.

VidOvation’s VidOlink family of long-range wireless transmission systemsVidOvation will launch two new products in its VidOlink family of long-range wireless transmission systems. The VidOlink Ranger2 is a lower-cost long-range transmission system that uses OFDM to transport video within line of sight on the 5.8 GHz band, while the VidOlink Tally & Control is a complementary means of adding tally and camera control unit (CCU) functionality to new or existing wireless camera systems using the 403-473 MHz band. It can also send data via VidOlink’s RF-over fiber SMPTE units, delivering RF, data, and power to the receive point with a single cable.

Vislink will spotlight its HEROCast, a tiny broadcast-quality HD micro-transmitter, that pairs with a dedicated wireless receive unit, PROCeiver, to provide a complete action sports video link. HEROCast was developed with GoPro and is designed to work specifically with the GoPro HERO 4 and HERO 3+ product lines to transmit live HD video.

SATELLITE
DTV Innovations will feature their Gryphon video encoder, which provides lowlatency encoding for a range of signals including MPEG-4 with 4:2:2 10-bit HD. It includes an internal demodulator for DSNG, ENG or other applications and accommodates up to 16 audio channels. Also look for the Falcon decoder that complements the Gryphon with decoding of MPEG-4 HD video. It includes a satellite demodulator.

Enensys will highlight its One Beam ISDB-Tb DTT network optimization technology. Designed for Latin American markets, One Beam ISDB-T/Tb allows a standard (MPEG-2) transport stream to be used within the delivery network, removing the need for proprietary equipment to deliver and receive the BTS stream.

Frontline Communications will spotlight its new automatic Ka/Ku-band dual-feed satellite antenna system, which the company co-designed with AvL Technologies. The mobile satellite antenna permits dual-band capability on the ViaSat network.

SAPEC will feature its Gredos line of video encoders and integrated receiver decoders (IRD) for digital satellite newsgathering. Gredos now supports Carrier ID, and the family includes the Gredos GHM encoder with integrated DVB-S2 modulator (upgradable to DVB-S2X) and the Gredos GHR IRD.
