NEVADA CITY, Calif.—Telestream has announced a slate of new products that are meant to address some of the biggest trends in the video industry, specifically the transitions to IP, 4K/UHD and working in the cloud. The products introduced were the Telestream Cloud Transform and update PRISM waveform monitors.

Telestream introduced the products as part of a Spring Press Event, which the company used as a substitute for the NAB Show that has been rescheduled for October 2021.

The Telestream Cloud Transform is a cloud-native, API-driven media processing and transcoding service. Transform is designed to enable develop teams writing their own code to access Telestream’s transcoding and media processing technology. It features extensive format support, color space conversion and wide color gamut support, as well as captions/subtitles conversion.

Cloud Transform is designed to be integrated into a user’s media supply chain, with them selecting what features they want to utilize. The service also utilizes a pay-as-you-go billing model.

“We’ve taken proven technology, the Telestream Media Framework, that’s the foundation of Telestream media workflows all over the world and built a cloud-native, API-driven, media processing and transcoding service that runs on our customers’ cloud provider of choice,” said Tim MacGregor, senior director, Head of Strategy and Product Development, Telestream Cloud. “Transform’s media processing pedigree ensures a future-proof path as standards and technology evolve, even as organizations develop their own workflow orchestration solutions.”

In addition, six new models have been introduced for Telestream’s line of PRISM waveform monitors that offer a smaller form-factor meant to help address space constraints in mobile trucks/OB vans during live productions.

The new PRISM models—three for both a single screen half-rack and dual screen full-rack unit—are designed to cover use cases from SDI monitoring to IP analysis, as well as support for both local and remote productions up to 8K HDR. The monitors provide full remote viewing of the PRISM display screen. Detailed monitoring and analysis of ST 2110 IP video is available when paired with Telestream’s Inspect ST 2110 probe. Additionally, the monitors are touchscreens.

The three models are the 100 series, which is SDI only; the 200 series, which has SDI and IP; and the 300 series with SDI, IP and Physical Layer.

Telestream will begin to ship the new PRISM monitors in the summer.
NEVADA CITY, Calif.—SES has gone with Telestream to provide a number of new technologies to its new London-based remote broadcast center that will provide system timing, waveform monitoring and quality control.

The SES broadcast center provides playout infrastructure for linear TV channels and can support HD formats and HDR services. While based in London, the network management is operated in Munich.

Telestream’s SPG800A sync generators for system timing applications and its PRISM SDI/IP waveform monitor for all video monitoring and QC applications have been installed at the broadcast center.

SPG800A comes with an ECO8000 change-over unit with newly released firmware that enables full remote operation through a web user interface. This enables the SES teams in Munich to switch network timing sources or GPS receivers remotely without being on-site in London.

The PRISM monitors, meanwhile, serve as the main tool for monitoring SDI signal quality and deep video analysis. Telestream’s “NoVNC Access” allows engineers in Munich to remotely operate and view all PRISM functions through a browser connection.

For more information, visit www.telestream.net.

NEVADA CITY, Calif.—China Central TV (CCTV) recently conducted a live test of an 8K UHD TV channel broadcast, using multiple Telestream systems for the test. CCTV says that this was the world’s first 8K UHD TV live broadcast across a 5G network.

CCTV, supported by China Mobile, China Telecom, China Unicom and China Radio and Television, broadcast the 8K UHD signals over 5G from the Beijing National Grand Theater and Shanghai International. To do so, it utilized Telestream’s full 2110 IP solution, including the Inspect 2110 IP monitoring system, PRISM waveform monitor and SPG8000A precision multiformat video signal generator.

The Inspect 2110 and Prism monitors help CCTV monitor IP 2110 8K signals in real-time. Telestream also provides IP 2110 network health protection and automatic alarm functions, and checks the main consistency of the main and backup channels.

The images were broadcast in public places on more than 30 UHD large screens and China’s first consignment of 8K TVs across Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Chengdu, Hangzhou, Jinan, Haikou and Qingdao.

CCTV has plans for additional 8K UHD broadcasts, including one for its Chinese New Year’s Eve celebrations. In 2022, CCTV expects to start broadcasting 8K UHD channels in the run-up to the Beijing Winter Olympics, with plans to implement 8K UHD as the standard production format for the games. This will include 8K Telestream live monitoring from content production to editing and broadcasting.

For more information, visit www.telestream.net.

This will allow existing installed units to be upgraded in the field while new units with the new mixed media card will just need a software upgrade. Both upgrade paths will be available for the same price. Now with a 25GE interface, Prism can provide support for a range of media networks, from SDI to 4K HDR and WGC.

The 25GE option is available in both Prism form factors, the 3RU 9-inch full touchscreen, MPI2-25, as well as the 1RU rasterizer, MPX2-25. Prism IP measurements are also available in all models. HDR/WGC features like STOP waveform, CIE charts and false color displays can be used for 4K content creation via 25GE.

Telestream will demonstrate this at its booth, N337, throughout NAB Show NY.

AMSTERDAM—Teradek will showcase its new Prism 4K HEVC encoder/decoder during IBC 2019, Sept. 13-17, at the RAI Amsterdam. The rack-mountable solution for broadcast, live production and Pro AV applications is the first in a new line of codecs, the company said.

Prism’s 2RU chassis can house up to nine blades, each of which supports up to eight channels of audio and is capable of four simultaneous 1080p60 video feeds. The unit can encode and decode up to 4Kp60 video with 10-bit 4:2:2 image sampling.

Offering redundant power and network connections, Prism’s genlock input provides frame sync on decoder outputs. The unit supports a wide variety of streaming protocols, including MPEG-TS, RTP and RTMPS, in addition to SRT and Zixi, Teradek said.

Prism can be connected to Teradek’s IP video management and production platform Core. Doing so, enables users to configure, route, transcode and record IP video streams in the cloud.

The company is planning a near-term release of software to enable support for REMI remote production workflows.

Teradek plans to make Prism available in the fall, and the company is pricing the unit at $2,990 for the 2RU chassis, $1,990 for the 1RU chassis and $2,990 each for the encoder and decoder cards.

“When we began development of Prism, we spent a lot of time working with our customers to produce a solution that would help them transition to a 4K workflow in a cost-conscious manner,” said Nicol Verheem, CEO of Teradek. “To achieve this, we built our platform from the ground up, using a completely new encoding technology stack and a new design philosophy that is better aligned with what our customers are looking for from a next-gen encoder.”

More information is available on the Teradek website.

See Teradek at IBC 2019 stand 12.E65.

Telestream will demonstrate this at its stands, 7.C16 & 7.C14, during IBC 2019.

PRISM presents complex information via easy-to-understand graphical displays familiar to broadcast operations teams, technicians and engineers.

Supporting HDR and Wide Color Gamut (WCG) workflows, PRISM reduces the complexity associated with content creation for multiple HDR/WCG formats, especially for content created following Report ITU-R B.2408-1. PRISM with HDR support is built on software that is easy to upgrade in the field to enable the solution to evolve as IP and HDR standards evolve, according to the company.

Tektronix also has added HDR capabilities to its Aurora scalable, file-based QC system. Aurora displays HDR metadata in a QC report and can produce graphs to show measured Content Light Level and Frame-Average Light Level values. If these levels exceed the file’s metadata, Aurora flags the error in the QC report, the company said.

Sentry, Tektronix’s video quality monitoring solution for live streams from cable, broadcast and OTT providers, has been enhanced with HDR status monitoring to confirm HDR services are being delivered correctly, the company said. The monitor also detects incorrectly set or mistakenly modified HDR data and alerts operators. The product offers automation and tools for proactive prevention of issues.

More information is available on the Tektronix website.

See Tektronix at NAB booth SU5006.
BEAVERTON, ORE.—Tektronix has added support for the SMPTE ST 2110 suite of standards for professional media over IP networks to its PRISM media analysis solution, the company announced today. It also has added new field-upgradable signal generation capabilities to the analysis tool for use in testing IP and 12G-SDI for hybrid/SDI networks.

As facility infrastructure evolves from SDI to IP, broadcast engineers and IT professional must manage hybrid SDI and IP environments. The addition of SMPTE ST 2110 signal generation to PRISM, which can be connected to any broadcast signal in a facility, means users now have a comprehensive measurement, network analysis and troubleshooting tool, the company said.

The new MP-GEN option module for PRISM can inject known good signals into the network to check signal paths and system redundancy, thus allowing users to identify where connectivity errors and other problems originate, Tektronix said. It does so by providing ST 2110-20, -30 and ST 2022-7 test patterns that can be used on IP networks and on 12G-SDI for hybrid/SDI networks.

PRISM’s new ST 2110 support provides generation, connectivity and analysis for: ST 2110-10, system timing; -20, uncompressed active video; -30, uncompressed PCM audio; -40, ancillary data; and -21, traffic shaping uncompressed video.

More information is available on the Tektronix website.

.

BEAVERTON, ORE.—With new technologies like 4K/UHD, wide color gamut and HDR now available to video content creators, Tektronix is ushering in a new set of tools for its Prism software-based platform. The new toolset helps Prism address multi-format and multi-standard challenges for camera acquisition for mobile and studio productions.

Part of the new toolset is a Tektronix-patented Stop Waveform Display that operators can use to adjust camera exposure in a consistent manner without dealing with the optical to electric transfer function of a camera; it can also create scene of subject lighting. There is also a vector display with a 3D look-up table that allows the BT.709 vector to be used to evaluate skin tones, match colors to familiar reference marks and determine the degree of color gamut compatibility for BT.709 conversion. A combination of full, quad or vertical display modes are also available.

The updated Prism platform will be available at the end of September, after Tektronix displays it to IBC 2017 attendees.
