DALLAS—Osprey Video is extending its Talon hardware encoder line with the addition of the new Talon G2. This new encoder follows its predecessors with its ability to create live RTMP streams for unmanaged networks, but it includes a bevy of new features.

The Talon G2 ingests video from multiple formats, encodes it to H.264 and delivers it over IP. One of the system’s new features is a front-facing LCD touch screen, which provides one-touch streaming control. When streaming profiles are established, users can start or stop encoding operations at the touch of a button. The screen also offers continuous feedback on the status of all encoders.

There is also API-level integrations with Facebook Live and the Wowza Streaming Cloud streaming service available with the Talon G2. An exclusive interface with Facebook allows the Talon G2 to be configured for Facebook streaming once instead of daily. Built-in security enables authorized users to start streaming to anyone’s Facebook page without requiring login credentials.

3G HD-SDI, HDMI and composite sources can be ingested with the Talon G2 and then streamed via RTMP, RTP or UDP to multiple destinations over IP. The G2 can encode and stream to three destinations simultaneously and save to a .TS file, with frame alignment across all streams for multiple-bit-rate streaming.

Osprey Video is now shipping the Talon G2 encoder for $1,890.

DALLAS—Osprey Video and NewTek have announced a collaboration that will see Osprey’s entire range of capture cards support NewTek’s Network Device Interface. With the integration, all Osprey cards will be recognizable as a source by other NDI-enabled applications and devices connected to a standard Ethernet local area network, allowing broadcasters to produce video over IP.

NDI is a bidirectional standard that enables facilities to share video and audio over IP by sending and receiving multiple input and output signals between devices on a network. NDI works independently of changing specifications and formats and supports integration with ASPEN, SMPTE 2022 and other standards.

The integration applies to all current Osprey Video capture cards, including its new 900 series.

LAS VEGAS—The 2017 NAB Show will be the debut of Osprey Video’s Talon G2, the next-generation of its Talon G1 three-channel streaming contribution encoder. The company will also show new capture cards, converters and USB capture devices that comprise its end-to-end live streaming workflow.

Designed for organizations that use a single encoder in narrowcasting scenarios, such as corporate communications departments and houses of worship, the Talon G2 includes an SDI input that allows it to connect to broadcast-grade cameras.

It also has a touchscreen LCD display and simple start/stop feature that requires little to no broadcast knowledge to use. Like its predecessor, the Talon G2 integrates with the Wowza Streaming Cloud service and YouTube, in addition to new integrations with the Zixi Platform and others.

Osprey Video will also launch its new 900 Series capture cards that were designed in response to customer requests for new features, such as bidirectional ports and support for 4K, UHD, 12G, HDMI 2.0, IP, and quad-channel HDMI up to 4K. They’ll also show a new converter product that has four 3G-SDI inputs, two 3G-SDI outputs and one HDMI output, and USB 3.0 capture devices to capture video from 3G-SDI or HDMI inputs, which are ideal for laptop streaming applications.

DALLAS—Osprey Video is offering a new model based off its Talon G1 encoder, the Talon G1H, that is designed for users outside of the professional broadcast market, ala government, education and houses of worship. The stand-alone hardware encoder comes with most of the key features of the Talon G1, but is available at a cheaper price and with greater ease of use, per Osprey’s official announcement.

The one area of difference between the Talon G1 and the Talon G1H is the removal of the Talon G1’s SDI input. This feature was not often used by video streaming amateur users and despite its removal the Talon G1H can still encode up to three streams simultaneously and save to a .TS file, with frame alignment across all streams for multiple-bit-rate streaming. The Talon G1H also includes integrated, application-level publishing straight to the Wowza Streaming Cloud, as well as take video from multiple formats, encode it to H.264 and deliver it over IP.

Another new feature is one-touch streaming control for the ability to stop and start encoding with a push of a button and no technical intervention.

 The Talon G1H is now available at a price of $1,190.

DALLAS—Osprey Video has released Ceylon, a free software encoding/streaming application designed specifically for Osprey video capture cards. This H.264 encoding application enables live Web broadcasting and archiving.

When used with a supported Osprey capture card, Ceylon allows user to live-stream events to computers, connected TVs, tablets and mobile devices. At the same time it archives HD streams to an MP4 container for later viewing. The application features a streaming engine that minimizes CPU usage and creates primary and backup streams from a single encode. It also has the ability to reconnect to the publishing port automatically in the event of loss connectivity.

The Ceylon is able to automatically embed closed captions in the H.264 data stream, which allows for caption display within supported players. Other new features for the Ceylon include TruVue Monitor, a preview window on the rendering of the encoded output; Source Preview, a real-time preview of the live video for cropping and image adjustment; and access to Osprey driver features.

Additional features include deinterlacing, cropping control, audio peak meters, and audio boost controls, vectorscope and luma scope functions when supported by an Osprey capture card.

The Ceylon application is currently available. Users of Osprey capture cards can download Ceylon from Osprey’s website.

With the capability to ingest video through 3G HD/SDI, HDMI or analog composite inputs, the Talon G1 can encode up to three streams simultaneously, save to a .TS file, with frame alignment across all streams for multiple-bit-rate streaming. The encoder features a Web-based interface, small form factor, and low power consumption. The Talon G1 also features a Lecture Capture mode, which can capture a camera feed and a second resource and deliver it over IP.

Osprey Video will release the Osprey Talon G1 encoder as of March 1 at a starting price of $1,890. The company is currently accepting pre-orders.
